Itinerary

Welcome to mesmerising Egypt, the land of the Pharaohs. Cairo is home to the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian Museum with its famous collection of antiquities, and bustling city bazaars just waiting to be scoured for great bargains. This evening we'll enjoy a group welcome dinner. (D)

Our touring in Egypt begins at the oldest structures in existence, the amazing Great Pyramids of Giza. We'll visit the nearby Great Sphinx, with the body of a lion and the head of a king, often referred to as the national symbol of Egypt. We'll also discover the ancient capital of Memphis and the Step Pyramid of Sakkara, believed to have been designed by the vizier of King Zoser, Imhotep. (B)

Today we venture into the lively heart of Cairo to visit the world-famous Egyptian Museum, home to Tutankhamun's priceless treasures and many other historic artefacts. We have enough time here for an optional visit to the ‘Mummy Room' which has nine mummies on display, including the mummy of Queen Hatshepsut. Special Experience: Delve into the delicious cuisine of Cairo as we take a local cooking class and enjoy our culinary creations for lunch. (B/L)

Today we leave the hustle and bustle of Cairo behind and fly to beautiful Luxor, on the banks of the Nile. Modern Luxor lies on the ancient city of Thebes and is known as the world's largest open-air museum. Special Experience: Embark on a magnificent and luxuriously appointed dahabiya where we'll spend 7 nights cruising the Nile. In the afternoon we cross the Nile to the West Bank and explore the area known as the Necropolis of Thebes. Our first stop is the Valley of the Kings, where, during the 18th dynasty, tombs were constructed for the Kings. We'll then visit the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahri. Queen Hatshepsut is known as one of the rarest and successful Pharaohs, as the title was traditionally only given to males. We'll also see the Colossi of Memnon, two enormous statues of the Pharaoh Amenhotep III. (B/L/D)

Today we'll explore the fascinating Karnak Temple, dedicated to the Pharaoh Amun. Approximately 30 pharaohs contributed to the temple's structure over time, which explains its monumental size! We'll then visit Luxor Temple, once connected to Karnak Temple by a 3-kilometre-long Avenue of Sphinxes. Luxor Temple is also home to a 25-metre-tall pink granite obelisk, which was part of a matching pair until the 1830s when one was given to France. It now stands in the centre of the Place de la Concorde in Paris. (B/L/D)

We set sail for Edfu this morning, crossing the lock at Esna and continuing south. (B/L/D)

This morning we visit the magnificent Temple of Horus, dedicated to the Falcon God. This beautiful ancient temple is one of the best-preserved in Egypt and the second-largest after Karnak Temple. The temple was abandoned in 391BC and it lay buried in sand up until it was rediscovered and excavated in the 1860s. (B/L/D)

Later this morning we'll cruise to the riverside Temple of Kom Ombo. This temple is unusual in that it is a double temple with an almost perfectly symmetrical design. The left side is dedicated to the god Haroesis and the right side to Sobek. We return to our ship this afternoon and continue cruising towards Aswan. (B/L/D)

Enjoy a day at leisure relaxing and taking in the landscape and local life as we cruise the Nile. (B/L/D)

Known for being the sunniest southern city of Egypt, Aswan has a distinctive African atmosphere. It's a small and very walkable city with a slow and relaxed lifestyle. This morning we'll explore the sights of Aswan. Highlights of our sightseeing include the High Dam, the picturesque Philae Temple on Agilkia Island, and the Unfinished Obelisk. (B/L/D)

Today we'll transfer to the airport for our flight. Special Experience: We'll visit the incredible twin temples of Abu Simbel. The temples were originally carved out of the mountainside during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II in the 13th century BC, as a monument to himself and his queen, Nefertari. Later today we'll return to Cairo and enjoy a group farewell dinner. (B/D)

Today we bid farewell to Egypt and begin our journey home. (B)
