Itinerary

Feel the stirring of something bigger than you as you arrive in Ayers Rock Resort, your launchpad to Australia's fiery heart in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Late afternoon, enjoy canapés and wine at the Uluru sunset viewing area. As the sun sets over the western horizon, the evening sky brings out the many shades of colour for which Uluru is renowned. This evening get to know your fellow travellers over a delicious meal at Ilkari Restaurant at your hotel. Stay Two Nights: Sails in the Desert, Ayers Rock Resort (DW)

Under the cover of darkness, wander through 50,000 magical handcrafted frosted glass spheres of light, in colours changing from ochre, deep violet, blue and gentle white. Then make your way to the dune top and watch in awe as the sun pops up in the distance behind Uluru, flooding the landscape with light.

Skirt the red walls at the base of Uluru and hear timeless stories, see rock art and visit the Mutitjulu Waterhole, once an important water source for the Aboriginal people and animals in the area. Experience the magnificence of the 36 red conglomerate rock domes that form Kata Tjuta, and take a guided walk through Walpa Gorge, following the natural creek bed between two of the largest domes. Kata Tjuta has great cultural significance for the Anangu people, specifically for Anangu men. (B)

Leaving Uluru behind travel across desert landscapes stopping at Kings Creek Station, a vast farming property, for lunch. Immerse yourself in Indigenous culture on a visit to the Wanmarra Aboriginal Community and learn about the Luritja and Pertame people's spiritual connection to the land. Discover bush food and medicine used for spirituality and healing. The flickering glow of this evenings fire under the canopy of a starry southern hemisphere sky is the perfect accompaniment to your Under a Desert Moon Local Dining Experience. This degustation dinner with matching wines is the perfect indulgent end to the day. (B/L/D) Stay: Kings Canyon Resort, Deluxe Spa Room

Perfect for observing the changing colours of the landscape, today you're off on a sunrise six-kilometre Rim Walk exploration of the spectacular Kings Canyon. As you venture around the rim, highlights include the domed ‘Lost City', and the luscious ‘Garden of Eden'. If you'd prefer a more relaxed walk you can opt for a walk along the Creek Bed. Now we're off the beaten track exploring along the 4WD Giles Track to Alice Springs. Immerse yourself this evening against the backdrop of the outback, enjoying an open-air Local Dining Experience around a campfire with your local hosts, as the Milky Way lights up the sky. (B/L/D) Stay: Crowne Plaza Alice Springs Lasseters

This epic adventure is almost at its end, but not before the stunning landscapes of the West MacDonnell Ranges takes centre stage today as you embark on a walk through Simpsons Gap. You'll also visit the historic Overland Telegraph Station and hear how the north and south of Australia were connected, by a single wire. Relish spectacular views across Alice Springs from Anzac Hill before your journey comes to an end later this morning. (B)

The Red Red Centre   5 , VIC, Australia, Sep 2017
Wonderful tour into the Red Centre. Uluru is amazing and we were able to see it at sunrise and sunset. Our tour guide, Miles, was informative, organised, and very helpful. The coach we travelled in was very accommodating for this part of Australia. Would highly recommend this tour.
The Colour of Red 3 , VIC, Australia, May 2016
A truly memorable trip! May proved to be a good time to travel to The Red Centre, as we enjoyed mid-20s temperatures. We appreciated the variety of experiences, from a tour leader who had been brought up in Alice Springs, the different indigenous folk who shared with us, the cattle station visit, the stunning scenery, interesting walks and dinner under read more the stars on 2 occasions. Most days started very early, but we wouldn't have liked to miss out on any of the planned activities! Both AAT Kings and Global Journeys were well organised and helpful.
Wish we had arrived the day before tour 6 , NSW, Australia, Aug 2015
Georgie, my only advice would be to tell people to be there the day before. We arrived on the start of the tour, arrived at airport at Ayres rock by 1.15 as indicated, but did not get to book in until 1.55. We got our keys and that was it, the tour started, I did not even get time to put my walking shoes on. We arrived back at the hotel at 7pm no idea read more where our room was and looking for it in the dark was a nightmare. Then trying to get a meal, what a disaster. It might be a good idea to tell people to arrive a day earlier, I wish we had. Other than that the tour was excellent.
Outstanding scenery and tour 7 , ACT, Australia, Aug 2015
This tour absolutely exceeded our expectations. The standard of accomodation was high throughout, the coach (which was actually a Mercedes truck) was extremeley comfortable and equipped with snacks and drinks, all the included meals were of the highest quality and our guide/driver was an exceptionally competent, versatile and capable young woman. Outstanding read more scenery and tour program and a real holiday for us as we could just relax and enjoy the trip without worrying about day to day logistics.
