Intrepid have curated a collection of short local getaways for locals, by locals. These Aussie trips incorporate the elements you know and love about Intrepid adventures around the globe. These short breaks of just three to five days mean you only have to unpack once, with a single base from which to explore the authentic local heart and stunning surrounds of Byron Bay, the Daintree, the Yarra Valley, or Tasmania’s Bay of Fires.

Byron Bay Coast, New South Wales

4 Day Byron Bay Retreat

Soak up the atmosphere of the Byron Bay hinterland where relaxation and rejuvenation await. This four day Aussie retreat includes three nights at a local homestead with 85 sprawling acres – the perfect setting for your getaway.

Here you can enjoy bushwalks through the rainforest or simply kick back and relax enveloped in nature. Overlooking the beautiful surrounds are private studios, reimagined from former farmworker lodgings and a welcoming home base for your time in Byron Bay.

Activities include onsite yoga and meditation sessions suitable for all experience levels, and nearby Byron Bay is brimming with funky cafes and a captivating character to become acquainted with. Enjoy beachside strolls and take in impressive views from Cape Byron lighthouse at your own pace, and join the group for a cocktail masterclass using artisanal spirits distilled from locally sourced ingredients.

In true Intrepid style, your travel experiences will give back. Dine at a not-for-profit restaurant which supports rehabilitation and reforestation in the area (and serves up delicious food!), and visit a working farm home to a collection to micro businesses where you’ll get to sample the local produce over a picnic lunch. This farm is a B-Corp company concerned for their community and the environment, as is Intrepid.

Daintree, Tropical North Queensland

5 Day Queensland Daintree Retreat

Tropical North Queensland is home to untouched coastlines, abundant wildlife, and some of the world’s oldest tropical rainforest. This beautiful pocket of Australia has ‘retreat’ written all over it! Reconnect with nature and culture on this five day getaway exploring Port Douglas and its surrounds.

Admire cascading waterfalls framed by lush forest from Barron Gorge lookout, check out the mountain village of Kuranda, and immerse yourself in the laid back lifestyle of Port Douglas. Boasting a beautiful coastline and a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, you may choose to take a snorkelling or reef trip during your time here.

An included day tour into the Daintree Rainforest sees you learn about the ecosystem from a local family, and a cruise along Cooper Creek is the perfect opportunity to spot crocodiles, birds and other wildlife. No visit to this area is complete without taking in the impressive views of Cape Tribulation where lush greenery and clear blue water meets a soft ribbon of white sand.

You will also be treated to an educational experience at Kuyu Kuyu (Cooya Beach). You’ll be met by a local member of the Kuku Yalanji family and learn about the relationship the Kuku Yalanji people have with the local environment. 4 Day Bay of Fires Retreat

Tasmania is known for its raw natural beauty and the Bay of Fires is no exception. Here the contrast of glistening blue water and white sand is complemented by a rust red hue as vibrant lichen cloaks the granite boulders along the shoreline.

Settle into your glamping accommodation nestled in this remote corner of Tasmania, an incredible setting for your Bay of Fires getaway. Slow things down, breathe in the fresh air, and listen to the sounds of nature. Start each day with morning yoga and spend each night in complete comfort in your luxurious bell tent.
