Itinerary

Welcome to your Corner Country adventure. After meeting your experienced Outback Spirit Tour Directors, enjoy a short city tour through Adelaide before checking into our boutique accommodation in leafy North Adelaide. Stay: Majestic M Suites (L/D)

Time to swap the urban jungle and hit the road as we travel through the beautiful Barossa Valley wine region to join the Sturt Highway, a major route spanning three states. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the banks of the Murray River at Renmark before trekking further east through to Mildura. From here we head into the Mungo National Park, our home for the next two nights. Stay: Mungo Lodge (B/L/D)

Today we explore the amazing Mungo National Park which was World Heritage Listed in 1981 in recognition of its rich Aboriginal heritage. Remains of the earliest humans to inhabit the Australian continent have been found in Mungo National Park and have recently been dated at more than 60,000 years old.

Enjoy a two-hour Indigenous-guided tour of Mungo lunette (Walls of China), a site of immense cultural significance. Learn about 40,000-plus years of Aboriginal cultural history and the surrounding Willandra Lake. Stay: Mungo Lodge (B/L/D)

Leaving Mungo, we travel through the tiny outback town of Pooncarie en route to Menindee, nestled on the Darling River and home to the vast Menindee Lakes. Then it's on to the iconic outback city of Broken Hill, where rich mining history and a vibrant arts scene await. Stay: Royal Exchange Hotel (B/L/D)

Start the day with a visit to the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Visitor Centre, a working base that showcases one of Australia's most vital outback lifelines. Take a tour of the base and learn about one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world.

Afterwards, delve into Broken Hill's glittering past at the Mining & Minerals Museum before heading to Silverton, a quirky outpost famous for films like Mad Max II and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Back in town, explore the Sulphide Street Railway Museum and wander the Living Desert Reserve, where sandstone sculptures rise from the red earth. Stay: Royal Exchange Hotel (B/L/D)

Perched high on the mullock heap, the Line of Lode Miners Memorial offers a sweeping view over Broken Hill and a solemn reminder of the 800-plus miners who lost their lives below ground.

From here, the Silver City Highway leads us north to Milparinka. Once a bustling gold rush outpost, this tiny town now quietly tells its stories through beautifully restored buildings like the old courthouse and police barracks.

We continue west to Depot Glen, a remote, windswept waterhole where explorer Charles Sturt and his party were stranded for months in 1845, waiting for the relentless outback heat to subside.

By day's end, we reach Tibooburra, a true frontier town nestled deep in the Corner Country. Stay: The Granites Motel and The Family Hotel (B/L/D)

Venture deep into the Sturt National Park on the way to Cameron Corner, where three states meet. After lunch at the Corner Store, journey across the Strzelecki Track into South Australia and on to Innamincka, perched on the banks of Cooper Creek. Stay: Innamincka Hotel (B/L/D)

Cross the border into Queensland to visit the ‘Dig Tree', located on the banks of Cooper Creek. This is where explorers Burke and Wills returned to after their expedition to the Gulf of Carpentaria, only to discover their party had left just nine hours earlier.

Back in town, an informative talk from the local ranger will expand our knowledge of this area before we tour Kings Marker and Burke's Grave. We cross the border for the second time today, back into South Australia to return to the hotel for sunset drinks around the fire ahead of dinner. Stay: Innamincka Hotel (B/L/D)

This morning, we farewell South Australia as we turn east towards outback Queensland. Crossing the Cooper Creek, we head into remote Channel Country, a vast network of interconnected channels and floodplains formed by rivers like the Cooper Creek, Diamantina River and Georgina River.

This landscape forms part of the Lake Eyre Basin, and is one of the largest internal drainage systems in the world. The land is mostly flat, arid and semi-arid, but during floods it transforms into a lush wetland.

Passing through Eromanga, we arrive at our destination late afternoon. Toogunna Plains is a 5th generation family-owned 130,000-acre sheep and cattle property, and our exclusive home for the next two nights.

This afternoon we take in the unique outback landscape in an incredible Sunset at Sandhills tour with cheese platters and drinks. We then return to the property for dinner under the stars and around the campfire. Stay: Toogunna Plains Farmstay (B/L/D)

This morning, get an insider's look at station life on a guided tour, complete with morning tea and a light lunch in the shearing shed. In the afternoon, visit the Eromanga Natural History Museum for a guided Dinosaur Giants tour and see Australotitan cooperensis, Australia's largest dinosaur. Finish the evening with sunset drinks and a degustation dinner in the museum.

We return to the station for our final night. Stay: Toogunna Plains Farmstay (B/L/D)

Hit the road for a big travel day through the striking terrain of Channel Country. Pass through Windorah and Tanbar as we make our way west to iconic Birdsville, arriving late afternoon.

Birdsville is famous for its remote Outback locations, the annual Birdsville Races, and the Big Red Bash music festival. It's also famous for its iconic pub, the Birdsville Hotel. Stay: Birdsville Hotel (B/L/D)

Explore town and visit the Wirrarri Visitor Centre, home to an extensive gallery featuring work from local artists. A visit to ‘Big Red' sand dune, which rises up over 40 metres from the Simpson Desert, reveals nature at her best. It doesn't get more outback than this and staying at the classic Birdsville pub. Stay: Birdsville Hotel (B/L/D)

Continue north through Queensland's Channel Country, where you'll witness evidence of a series of ancient flood plains within the outback arid landscape. Passing the towns of Bedourie and Boulia, the latter being known as the capital of the Channel Country and our next port of call. A visit to the Min Min Encounter Visitor Centre, highlights a unique theatrical experience and a chance to learn the story of the Min Min Light. Stay: Boulia Desert Sands Motel & The Australian Hotel (B/L/D)

It's an early start this morning as we make our way west towards the Northern Territory border. What's another day without another state. The Plenty highway leads us through Harts Range and Gemtree into Alice Springs, the beating heart of the Red Centre. Stay: Crowne Plaza Alice Springs Lasseters (B/L/D)

Explore the town's key landmarks, including the Alice Springs Desert Park, the Royal Flying Doctor Service Museum, and the Old Telegraph Station.

Tonight, enjoy a true Territory experience at the ‘Original Outback Bush BBQ,' a fun-filled evening of outback cuisine and entertainment under the stars. Stay: Crowne Plaza Alice Springs Lasseters (B/L/D)

Swap stories over a final breakfast before transferring to the airport or your accommodation. (B)
