The adventure begins in Denpasar, the capital of Bali. From here, take an air-conditioned transfer to the peaceful Ubud Wana Resort in the Nyuh Kuning area of Ubud. If you arrive after 2pm, you can check straight in for your four-night stay. The rest of the day is yours. Adjust to your new time zone, perhaps with a swim in one of the three palm-fringed swimming pools.
Tonight, you have the option to join the group at Hujan Locale (own expense), a restaurant serving street food-inspired dishes with ingredients sourced from local farmers and the restaurant's kitchen garden. Stay: Ubud Wana Resort (or similar).
The day begins with a yoga class to get into a Balinese frame of mind.
Later in the morning, we travel to Campuhan Ridge and explore the exquisite countryside of Bali on foot. We follow a 30-minute path through rice terraces to reach a picturesque vantage point. Then you have the option to visit Jungle Fish, famed for its lively, open-air restaurant and pool bar. You can choose to have a light lunch here, before taking a swim in the infinity pool.
Tonight, we ride on a vintage Vespa to dinner with a local family. As you feast on local dishes, there is a Legong Balinese traditional dance performance. Stay: Ubud Wana Resort (or similar) (B/D).
We start early this morning, visiting a produce market. We buy spices, meats, seafood and vegetables before heading to a cooking school surrounded by paddies. Coffee is waiting, alongside a spread of cakes and fruits before we head to the open-air kitchen for our class and to eat our creations for lunch.
The early afternoon is yours to spend as you choose, before joining the group again later for a tour of the John Hardy showroom and workshop. This artisan jeweller has firm eco-principles and has adopted ancient techniques to craft high-end pieces from the 400-acre (160ha) design centre. You may want to turn in early tonight, we have an adventure tomorrow. Stay: Ubud Wana Resort (or similar) (B/L).
We rise well before dawn this morning and travel for around 1hr 30min to the base of Gunung Batur, an active volcano.
After a safety briefing, we ascend a rocky path for a couple of hours, guided by flashlight, to the top of the main crater. Your efforts are rewarded with sunrise over Mount Abang and Mount Agung while we enjoy a ‘champagne' breakfast. We take the western slope downhill, stopping at craters and smoking cones. There's time to see the lava field that surrounds the volcano, before trekking across the black lava sand. There's a holy hot spring at the base of the mountain where you can soothe your muscles. The rest of the day is yours. Stay: Ubud Wana Resort (or similar) (B).
After breakfast, we check out of Ubud Wana Resort and head to Jatiluwih for a gentle 9mi (15km) bike ride through Unesco-listed rice terraces, learning about their unique irrigation system and traditional growing techniques. Lunch is included at a restaurant in Jatiluwih.
Later, we dress in Balinese attire for a blessing ceremony performed by a priest at a sacred temple. Then we leave Jatiluwih for a 2hr 30min journey north to Pemuteran. We spend the night on the edge of West Bali National Park at the traditional Balinese-style Naya Gawana Resort & Spa. It is tranquilly located on Menjangan Bay and features an infinity pool with stunning views over the bay and mountains. Stay: Naya Gawana Resort & Spa (or similar) (B/L).
This morning, there's breakfast with a view over Menjangan Bay and a lush mangrove forest. Fed and caffeinated, we then take a leisurely three-hour hike with a local expert through the jungle of West Bali National Park, where we learn about the protected flora and fauna and possibly spot black leaf monkeys, grey macaques and a variety of birdlife.
In the afternoon, we pack up and head off to Jimbaran Beach, about three hours' away, where we check into Anja Jimbaran for the final four nights of the trip. Stay: Anja Jimbaran (or similar) (B).
Take the fast boat for around two hours bound for Nusa Lembongan, a surfer's paradise island. Here we can stretch out on white-sand beaches, shaded by palms and lapped by clear waters. Don a snorkel and explore the coral reefs offshore. The beach vibes continue with a barbecue today, before setting off back to the mainland in the mid-afternoon. Hit the beach club scene at the W Bali Resort's Woobar, where we take an hour-long mixology class in decadent surroundings. Stay: Anja Jimbaran (or similar) (B/L).
We head to Legian Beach this morning, ready to take to the ocean on a two-hour stand-up paddleboarding lesson.
Afterwards, there's time to explore Legian.
Tonight, we have the option to drive (transfer included) for an hour or so to Canggu for dinner (own expense) at the rustic La Brisa, an oceanfront club on Echo Beach. Stay: Anja Jimbaran (or similar) (B).
Enjoy a lazy morning, spending time around the hotel and on Jimbaran Beach. In the mid-afternoon, we have a transfer to Uluwatu Temple, majestically perched on a cliff. Here we watch a Kecak dance as the sun goes down.
Later, we feast on a four-course dinner, in a secret cave set back from a white-sand beach overlooking the ocean – a memorable and fitting way to wrap up your adventure in Bali. Stay: Anja Jimbaran (or similar) (B/D).
The trip ends after breakfast and we begin our return journeys home. If you'd like the adventure to continue, speak to your sales representative about joining our post-trip Gili extension, where white sands and turquoise seas provide the perfect place to relax after a fun-filled adventure (B).
