Our Northern European odyssey sets sail from the Danish capital of Copenhagen, making its way to the German seaside resort of Warnemünde. A stop at Gdansk in Poland offers an opportunity to brush up on World War II history, before it’s over to Klaipeda in Lithuania, famed for its wood-framed architecture, and Riga, the cultured capital of Latvia.

Next comes Tallinn in Estonia, with its gothic spires and cobblestoned streets, followed by the Finnish capital of Helsinki, and spectacular Stockholm in Sweden, where historic charm meets cutting-edge innovation. Discover medieval ruins in Visby read more and visit the 17th-century town of Karlskrona, home to Sweden’s largest naval base. Traveling south, we have two days to explore the design-forward Danish capital of Copenhagen, before arriving in Oslo, Norway, where culture and nature co-exist. A day at sea brings us to our final stop, the forward-thinking Dutch capital Amsterdam.

World War II took a devastating toll and with resolute determination, its residents rebuilt. Today, it is the center of the world’s amber trade. Klaipeda dates to 1252, the year that saw the construction of the castle of Memelburg at the mouth of the Dane River.
