Experience of a lifetime 0 , ON, Canada, Sep 2025
I have traveled a lot for school and work but this Euro trip was by far the best experience. I got to experience new cultures, try new foods, meet incredible people and have memories for a lifetime with new bonds I created. This is a VERY fast paced trip. It gives you teasers of each city. Be prepared to pack, tour and explore in a short period of time. read more It gave me a broad perspective of the cities I would like to visit again. Thank you for a great tour and a lifetime of memories Topdeck!
Central Europe Highlights 1 , New Zealand, Jan 2023
Fantastic trip, accommodation and travel were great and the team leader was amazing. Found it a great way to get an overview of Europe, though I think in retrospect more time in fewer places would have been better as at times it felt quite rushed. Ultimately though I was able to see and do what I wanted to do, though each day was fairly jam packed to read more do it all. Really enjoyed myself.
A great getaway, so much to see and do. 3 , SA, Australia, Aug 2019
Amazing tour and a great group to travel with. Would definitely recommend to others and do again at some stage.
Simple and easy way to see picture-perfect Norway and Mother Russia   4 , QLD, Australia, Jul 2019
The Red Star Special is a long trip (37 days), but you will never want those 37 days to end. It is very fast paced and exhausting tour but really worth it. And you visit all of the places I only used to dream of visiting, ticking off many bucket list items.

This trip takes you up to the top of Europe, stopping at many small towns in Norway. Accommodation read more through Norway is very basic, but they all come with some amazing views (just make sure you bring a sleeping bag). There is a lot of driving, but the group had quite a strong camaraderie which makes the bus days still a lot of fun. To keep the cost down through Norway, a Topdeck Chef travels with you and cooks breakfast, lunch and dinner for you. They are generally basic bulk meals (i.e. lots of pasta, salads, toast/cereal), but still taste good.

There are a large number of people on this trip that only do the Scandinavian section of the trip (leaving before Russia) and a number of people joining for the Russia section. This makes the trip feel like a whole new tour and helps to combat any fatigue you many be feeling from the last 21 days. Russia is equally as amazing as Scandinavia. Don't let the issue of having to get a Russian visa put you off going to Russia. Topdeck use a local Russian guide to take you through St Peters, Novgorod and Moscow. The Russia days have a lot more jam-packed than most of the other days on the trip, with a lot less free time to wander and explore the place yourself. But Topdeck take you to a lot of the places that you would want to see on your own anyway.

If you are looking to see as much as you can in as little time as possible I would recommend this. Our trip leader was highly knowledgeable and always happy to help if you had a question about where to go or what to do. The other people on the trip were mostly from Aus/NZ and were mostly age 25+.

Booking through Global Journeys was easy and I would use them again. Overall this is an amazing trip and I couldn't recommend it enough!

FAQs

What’s included in my trip?
On each trip itinerary, you'll find 'Inclusions' that gives you the low-down on exactly what's included in your trip each day. All Topdeck trips include transport, accommodation, some meals, tips (apart from Morocco and sailing trips – see individual trip pages for details), some incredible included experiences and your in-the-know Topdeck team. Your Inclusions vary with each trip though, so be sure to check out the trip page for more details.
What's not included in my trip?
Spending money, visas, personal travel insurance, medical fees, flights (unless specified), transfers (apart from Egypt and Morocco), departure taxes and any meals not mentioned on the trip page. Excursions and entrance fees are also not included – unless specified in the ‘Inclusions’ section of the trip page. Topdeck have scoured the globe for the best things to do in your free time – and they're listed under ‘Your Options’ in each trip itinerary. These aren’t included in your trip price but are highly recommended as something to budget for. They really are that good.
How many other people will be on my Topdeck trip?
All trips have a maximum group size of 18. Think smaller groups and more time to bond with your fellow travellers, more flexibility on the road and a deeper dive into each destination. It’s all about keeping the adventure social, but making the experience feel even more personal.
Who will I be touring with?
Topdeck travellers come from all over the world and are aged between 18 and 32. Like you, they will be up for a great travel experience and meeting like-minded explorers.
Is it a problem if I travel on my own?
Not at all! Over 50% of our travellers start the trip solo and finish the trip with friends for life.
What kind of transport does Topdeck use?
From trains to minicoaches, ferries and local buses, Topdeck get you safely from A to B – with zero hassle. Modes of transport vary from trip to trip, so check out the specifics under ‘Inclusions’ on the trip page.
What type of accommodation do you stay in?
From lively hostels in the centre of the action, to unique regional stays that immerse you in the local way of life – we have a mixed bag of accommodation depending on the destination and trip you’ve picked.

Think: character-filled hotels, social hostels, sailing boats, beachside resorts, desert camps and local homestays. To uncover the specifics of your trip, head to the accommodation sections on your trip itinerary – or contact our Customer Service team to find out more.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. Comprehensive travel insurance is compulsory on all Topdeck trips. This should be taken out at the time of booking. We recommend getting a comprehensive travel insurance policy which covers you for all medical expenses, including repatriation, and any expensive items you bring away with you such as laptops, tablets, smart phones and cameras. Check the policy wording and excess limits before you book and make sure they are to your satisfaction. Travel insurance should be taken out at the time of booking in case of unforeseen events which may lead you to cancel your trip.
What visas will I need?
Obtaining correct visas is your own responsibility. Not having correct visas could mean you missing out on part or all of your trip. Please refer to our Visa Guide. You should also double check with the individual Embassies before you depart, remembering that visa requirements can change at short notice. For most of the countries where visas are required, it is NOT possible to obtain the visa whilst on the trip and some visas take 3-4 weeks to obtain.
How much luggage am I allowed to bring?
Each person is allowed 1 item of standard size luggage plus a day pack. The maximum weight of your main bag must not exceed 44lbs/20kgs. Size for all bags must not exceed 70cm x 45cm x 25cm.
What if I am on a special diet?
If you have special dietary requirements e.g. vegetarian or vegan, we will make every endeavour to cater for your specific needs as long as you tell your Global Journey's Travel Advisor when you book. Unfortunately in some places we travel it is not possible to obtain certain special foods, and we cannot guarantee the variety of foods available when eating out.
When can I expect to get my travel documents?
Topdeck issues e-docs which will be sent to you five to six weeks prior to departure and when you have paid in full, which includes your detailed day-to-day itinerary. These also include any vouchers you need for pre and post trip accommodation. In addition to this, you MUST read the detailed pre-departure information relevant to your trip. The pre-departure document contains a number of important points that you should be aware of. Please take the time to download and read it.
