Cannot believe how fantastic the whole journey was. I am amazed that we have been able to enjoy the same benefits for half the price of other travellers through other tour organisations. Our tour was exceptionally enjoyable. From the start we received excellent service from Yvonne at Global Journeys. All our queries were answered quickly and our bookings were perfectly attended to. The accommodation was clean and comfortable as were the general areas of the ship. The staff were always pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. We really enjoyed the fact that some of the included tours were bus and canal trips which provided a variety to our experiences. We would readily book again with Global Journeys and Avalon should we choose a River Cruise again.

My wife had always wanted us to take a European river cruise. I was the reluctant one worrying about being locked up for day after day and the cruise like being held in a low security prison. There was a range of daily activities to suit all tastes from tours for history lovers to people who just wanted to see local culture. All tour guides seemed to have a detailed knowledge of their subject. The dining on board was first class and the three young ladies who looked after our table had the Asian culture of customer service and made sure dining was a delight. The evening entertainment was also good. The staff on board took their job seriously to ensure all passengers came away with a first class experience. The only minor issue on the Amsterdam to Basel was not enough time in the city of Cologne. Whilst my wife and I had visited Cologne last year two hours was not enough time for people to take this great city. As I said we had a wonderful experience and are now planning another cruise in 2015.

Excellent accommodation and service onboard. Local tour guides varied in their ability to provide interesting tours. Often found the tours did not allow enough free time to explore the places visited as too much time was spent giving in-depth history information. Overall a memorable experience!

We enjoyed every minute of our Amsterdam to Basel river cruise. The flexibility offered by this type of travelling makes group travel enjoyable.

Overall the cruise was wonderful, the ship was comfortable and casual, the rooms were spacious for a ship, the service was great. Loved the intimacy of the smaller river cruise ship. We had a wonderful experienced Tour Director who made things work even when the Rhine River was blocked by a multi barge pile-up! The local guides she organised were also fantastic. Food and wine was excellent. Now we're trying to work out which cruise we'll go on next!

We started the cruise from Amsterdam and despite the floods the cruise went ahead. I was impressed that Avalon Waterways had arranged another ship to start the cruise and had the original ship booked at the half way point for us to changeover. This tour was great. It was well organised before we left and during the cruise. The cruise director was very experienced and helpful. No complaints at all. Loved it.

Our cabin was most wonderful and meticulously kept by the very friendly staff, we were kept informed in every respect of the tour. If the information was not given to you, the staff was available all the time for any assistance. The food and the dining arrangements were flexible and left us totally satisfied. The standard of the dishes that were served ,were second to none. Great ship new ship with good service and great food options. The wifi was not the best as it cut out a lot due to the satellite connection, but you could not fault any thing else. We had a wonderful time. Our Stateroom was top class, the cruise staff were wonderful, the food & beverages were 1st class and the entertainment and music/dancing just great. If anything could be suggested for the future there could be more included Tour Transport Options for those not interested or not able to commit to 90 minute city walks or 4 hour ...read more coach excursions. My husband and I did enjoy the cruise but we were a little disappointed with a couple of the things. One of the optional tours we went on we spent so long on the coach and only had a short time at our destination. I would rather have stayed and explored the village we had docked at than travelled all the way we did. Also it would have been great if ...read more there had been a games night or trivia night, or even a movie night on one of the evenings - just another way of getting to meet some more of the people on the cruise.

It was far better than we expected. The crew were fantastic and very friendly and helpful. The boat was fantastic. The food was excellent.

Everything was organised to perfection starting with my experience with Yvonne and Georgie. Even the weather during the river cruise cooperated (well mostly). The Rhine was too full so we had to complete the last leg by coach, but that actually worked to my advantage. This was my first river cruise and, if I could afford to, I would do it again without question. With the exception of the tour in Cologne, all the tours were great and the tour guides were informative and interesting.

Really well organised, great food, excellent accommodation. The tour guides were particularly good - real enthusiasts and great personalities!

Ship was extremely comfortable, (beautiful cabins) and great variety of food. The only downside of our cruise was the cruise director, and in my opinion they are there to 'set the tone' of a cruise. The cruise director was no doubt very organised, but lacked personality and did not provide passengers with enough information for each port. (eg in Heidelberg ...read more the passengers were advised of 3 types of tours determined by difficulty. It was indicated that to go to the castle was quite a climb .....which I may not have managed. As it was the bus took the tour right to the castle, with only about 8 steps to walk, very manageable for myself, but I missed this due to lack of communication by a very unapproachable director). The excursions were too regimented, especially in Germany. The French guides were far more relaxed and delivered their tours with enthusiasm.
