“Wonderful tour through Glorious Germany and the Czech Republic”
- NSW, Australia Sep 2019 View Photo

We booked this tour through Jemma at Global Journeys and she did a great job. After the initial booking I wanted to make changes and she handled these with patience and efficiency. I would certainly book my next holiday through her and Global Journeys again.

This was our second Albatross tour and definitely the best. There were 16 participants from Australia and NZ and we all got on very well. The Albatross hotels at the start and end of the tour were located near major railway stations which made it easy to get to and from the airports. The other hotels during the tour were also located in or near the city or town centres. The Berlin public transport system is easy to use and very efficient.

We used the S-Bahn on several occasions to get around. There is so much to see in Berlin that we were glad we had booked an extra day at the start. We could easily have spent another 2 days there. Dresden was another highlight with its Gothic architecture and position on the Elbe. The tour included plenty of excellent activities including a river cruises, beautiful scenic walks in Saxony Switzerland, visits to Potsdam palaces, Konigstein Fortress and Colditz Castle. The latter was particularly interesting with the part it played in WW2 as a POW camp. Prague was also great but far too crowded with tourists. I liked that we were taken out of Prague to visit other interesting places like Kutna Hora and Trebon which are not yet on the tourist radar.

Staying 2 nights in Cesky Krumlov was also good as it meant you could walk around the town after all the day tourists had gone. The tour director Ernst was very knowledgeable especially in respect of German history and all the local tour guides were excellent. Overall we thought that this tour was excellent value for money. I would certainly consider booking an Albatross Tour in the future.

“Scenic and enlightening tour of Ireland with Albatross ”
- WA, Australia Aug 2019

Having travelled twice before with Albatross, we were confident of the quality of the tour and the accommodation, which is always a great mix of styles while always being top class. We were not disappointed and would travel with them again.

It was our first time booking online with Global Journeys and might we say we could not have been happier and it was an easy and trouble free process. Our assigned Agent, Jemma, was always contactable and so helpful. As we live in remote country, it made the whole process so easy and stress free knowing we could contact Jemma about any aspect of our trip and she could help us. Once again, we have no hesitation in recommending Global Journeys.

This tour turned out to be a very enlightening and educational experience, with our tour leader delving deeply into the history of Ireland and the journey that the people of Ireland have been on. Relating this to many places we visited, this was well balanced, with scenery and entertainment particularly 'Trad on The Prom' being a wonderful night, of Irish dance ,music and song.

Our tour commenced mid August and the weather was cool and mild, so comfortable travelling, any misty rain always seemed to clear when we arrived at a location. The age group on our tour was mixed, probably an older group than we have been on before, but everyone got on and we all had a great time.

One thing that was obvious was that quite a few people were tired right from the start. They had basically come straight from Australia and that extra length of time to get to Dublin took its toll, even only a one night stop didn’t seem to help.We had a week in London prior and we were fine.

The tour pace was fairly well balanced, we didn’t have early starts, and no really late finishes or rushing onto something in the evening. but there were times where it was a rush to get something to eat at the very busy, popular locations we found ourselves in sightseeing.

“Italy at its Best”

Antonia was an exceptional guide - very knowledgeable, enjoyable to be with, supported all the group, and spent a lot of My Time guiding us around. Outstanding accommodation and excursions. We knew we were experiencing Italy at its best. Would recommend to others.

“Spectacular Scandinavia”
- NSW, Australia Jun 2019 1 Helpful Vote

While we were unlucky with the changeable weather, we were certainly not let down by the breathtaking scenery in Norway, and towns like Stavanger and Bergen were a delight. Among the highlights of Norway were the Lofoten Islands. The hotels were all very good, although the views from several allocated rooms were not.

“Scandinavia with Albatross ”
- NSW, Australia Jun 2019 2 Helpful Votes

This was our first Albatross. We felt qualified to make a fair judgement as we have done 10 tours with a variety of tour companies before. Please do not recommend this tour until at least 2021- this might give the company time to review and change many aspects to make this a good tour.

Our guide Annette had a stutter which made her difficult to listen to and obviously shortened her explanations. The tour offered one glass of wine on arrival and nothing after - not even on the last night. A glass of wine here and there and some aperitifs helps to develop the social side of the touring group. This group struggled to gel as there were few opportunities and no encouragement. There was also too much 'My Time' without any support or guidance.

The Hurtigurten day was up at 5 am for a flight, 2 hours in a shopping mall of no interest to anyone, followed by 2 hours waiting for the cruise to start, followed by 4 hours of cruising which was pleasant, followed by 1.5 hours to get to the accommodation. A really long day which wasn’t seen as worthwhile by our group. Lofoten islands were good but cabins varied in quality and views.

There were several in our group who had done other Albatross tours and we all felt this tour was not up to the standard it should have been. Very disappointing. Norway is a beautiful country but tour operator did not offer value in that market. I will advise against using Albatross for Scandinavia.

In contrast, our second Albatross trip - Italian Grande, taken straight after this trip was excellent. Our guide Antonia was outstanding. The trip could be seen to value the group and offered value for money. Alcohol appropriately offered and 'My Time' was well guided and supported. A fabulous trip and agreed by all in the group.

“Glorious scenery - mountains, lakes and forests”
- QLD, Australia Jun 2019 1 Helpful Vote

My first tour with Albatross and will travel with them again. The itinerary was well thought out, and the hotels were in good, central locations, with character, though some of them had limited, or no, air conditioning, which is sometimes an issue with increasing temperatures in Europe. The group size of 17 was perfect, allowing for plenty of space on the coach, which was comfortable, clean and modern.

“Italy with Albatross Travel”
- ACT, Australia Jun 2019

We have recently toured with Albatross Tours on their Italian Grande trip; an 18 day coach tour from Milan to Rome. It took in most important sites from the northern lakes, Maggiore and Como etc to the Amalfi Coast. Some of the major advantages of Albatross' tours are the multi-night stays and the provision of many night meals at our accommodation or a local restaurant.

We had 4 nights in Stresa and 5 nights in Montecatini Terme where we stayed in lovely four star hotels. From Montecatini Terme, we enjoyed day trips to Firenze, Pisa, Lucca and the Cinque Terre. Albatross Tours allow for "My time" which allows patrons to explore on their own and have a break from the group.

Our tour manager was professional, knowledgeable and personable. The coach driver was an ever smiling Italian who made us all feel safe and confident in his driving skills. There were only 18 Australians and New Zealanders on our large coach so there was ample room to spread out. All our travelling companions got on well and were a happy group.

We booked our tour through Global Journeys. Our consultant, Madeline, helped us with our holiday planning and offered us suggestions that assisted our holiday planning. Albatross Tours provide well resourced holidays, for small groups and many extras. We enjoyed our holiday immensely.

“Beautiful and interesting Croatia”
- VIC, Australia May 2019 2 Helpful Votes

This small group tour of Croatia and the Adriatic was well organised. With accommodation at quality hotels in convenient locations and the individual stays from 2-4 nights enabled a more relaxed holiday with opportunities for free time. Despite it being a small group Albatross uses a large comfortable coach ensuring all have plenty of room.

The countryside through which we travelled with its diverse history, varied from limestone hills and valleys to delta plains. The quality of our tour director, and knowledge of local guides at various locations was excellent and very interesting making for an enjoyable tour filled with variety, excellent direction and comes highly recommended. Thank you and well done Albatross!

Why you should choose to travel with Albatross on your next adventure

Tours Designed For You
Tours Designed For You

Albatross Tours have created tours specifically for people like you travelling to the far side of the world, and wanting more from their escorted coach tour than a few hurried, all too brief visits and repetitive, long intercity drives. That is why we ensure the touring pace is always so much more sensible! Longer stays in each destination provide you with far more time for sightseeing, and a more fulfilling overall touring experience.

That is also why we make sure each tour is genuinely inclusive, with no additional 'on tour' costs. We know Australians and New Zealanders can be uneasy with tipping, so we have included all 'on tour' gratuities and end of tour tips. We include two, three, four and even five night stays in each captivating city and region. One night stops are avoided where possible, and some days are left completely free – for the simple pleasure of it!

Enjoy Longer Stays
Enjoy Longer Stays

Enjoy longer stays with 2, 3, 4 and even up to 7 night stops. Everybody hates unpacking their bags every evening, and then having to re-pack them again early the next morning. That is why, apart from possibly the first or last night of the tour, there are virtually no 'one night stops' on any of our programmes. Instead, we make sure our tours always have a much more sensible pace by including two, three, four and even seven night stays in each captivating city or region.

Our itineraries are always packed with numerous included sightseeing excursions and extras, but we still ensure you have quality leisure time to relax and savour your surroundings. We have even left some days completely free – for the simple pleasure of it!

See More & Experience More With Albatross
See More & Experience More With Albatross

When we design our tours we first look at each region and we ask what must be done, what can be done, and what should be done. Our objective is to give you a more rewarding experience and allow you time to 'stay a while' and savour the destination. We then break these down into carefully balanced touring days.

Some days might have quite conventional visits to towns and cities. On other days we will add activities that are distinctly provincial, maybe quirky or possibly even something for the simple pleasure of it.

Albatross Tours Genuinely Inclusive
Albatross Tours Genuinely Inclusive

Albatross tours are genuinely inclusive and include all of those special excursions and visits, sightseeing tours and feature dinners. We even include the end of tour tips to your tour manager and driver! You will not be charged on your tour for special 'optional' excursions such as a feature dinner or entry to an attraction such as Neuschwanstein Castle. Why? We believe these expensive hidden extras usually costing over $100 per person per day are entirely predictable so we have already included them in our tour price.

This means you will find it far easier to budget for your daily holiday expenses and you will have complete transparency on where you money is going. We encourage you to compare our tour prices on a cost per day basis, and take into consideration that Albatross Tours have NO additional 'on tour' costs. Rest assured, by the time you get back home and walk back through your front door you will not have paid any more.

Small Groups - Maximum of 28 people on our European Summer Tours!
Small Groups - Maximum of 28 people on our European Summer Tours!

We limit the maximum size of each of our European Summer group departures to just 28 travellers*. In fact our average group size is just 22. There are so many benefits to travelling in a small group. Naturally less time is wasted getting on and off the coach and there are always a noticeable number of spare seats when travelling. Another significant benefit is the swifter, priority access you will have to all the attractions and special events.

A more manageable group size leads to a higher level of personal service from your Tour Manager. Simply put, everything is just much more personal. Our small groups can stay in hotels chosen for their style, character and location – authentic hotels that larger tour groups often cannot consider staying in. Dining out is also more enjoyable as we can use delightful local restaurants rather than standard, larger group establishments.

Stay In Character Style Hotels In Superb Locations
Stay In Character Style Hotels In Superb Locations

At Albatross, we know how important where you stay is. Your enjoyment will be wonderfully enhanced by staying in a delightful family run Gasthof hotel with balconies that have window boxes bursting with geraniums, or a beautifully renovated cave room reminiscent of the 'Flintstones', or a superb ancient castle dating back centuries.

Would you rather return home telling tales of having woken in a 500 year old Inn as opposed to staying in a standard, modern glass and concrete 'block' and feeling you could literally be anywhere?

In addition to centrally located city hotels, we purposefully aim to stay in a variety of authentic regional hotels with character and charm. In properties with a regional style or ambience, sometimes 'olde worlde', or simply elegant with nostalgia, and sometimes with surprises and where every room is different.

Albatross Tour FAQ's

Frequently asked questions for clients considering travelling with Albatross

Before I book
How do Albatross tours differ from other European coach tours?

Albatross tours are specifically designed for you, the Australian and New Zealand traveller. With our small group sizes and leisurely 2, 3, 4 and even 5 night stays you get more time to relax and savour the superb places we visit. Our touring programmes offer the perfect balance of included regional and city sightseeing along with that essential free time to do your own exploring.

When can I expect to get my travel documents & itinerary?

Your travel documentation will be provided apporximately 4 weeks prior to your tour departure provided full payment has been received. If you are departing our fair shores earlier please ensure you have advised your Global Journeys Travel Advisor to ensure you receive your documentation prior to your departure.

Are your tours fully inclusive?

Our tours are genuinely inclusive, rather than fully inclusive. Albatross Tours feature no 'optional extras lists' or later charged excursions on our tours. Even your 'end of tour' tips to your tour manager and driver are included. We include all the sightseeing, 'special' dinners and relevant entrance fees as per the itinerary.

Will I have free time while touring?

Yes, absolutely! And since we do not sell ANY optional excursions your free time remains free! We believe the perfect touring holiday includes a balanced mix of included activities as well as free time to enjoy tour surrounding. Let’s face it, part of the joy of a destination is to relax and enjoy a leisurely lunch or wander through the streets and experience the local culture.

How many people will I be travelling with?

On our Europe & UK Summer Small Group tours you will be travelling with an average of 22 like-minded people, made up of a mix of couples, friends and single travellers. Some groups may be as small as 10 travellers and we cap all tours at only 28 guests.

We believe travelling in a small group ensures a more pleasurable touring experience for you. It allows us to select more private hotels and attractions for you to experience, plus you have much more room on the coach!

On our Christmas, New Year & Winter Wonderland Tours our group sizes are larger – an average of 32, capped at 40 guests.

What is the typical age of an Albatross traveller?

The typical age of an Albatross traveller is 45 years and over. Our unique style of touring allows our tours and itineraries to attract a wide variety of travellers, from empty nesters to baby boomers and families on our Christmas & New Year tours. Perhaps more importantly, it is about the type of people we carry, usually Australians and New Zealanders. People who want to see and experience more, people who want a more authentic European holiday experience.

What is the standard of hotels we stay in?

We have sourced unique and authentic accommodation to enhance your touring experience. We select our range of hotels for many different reasons, their style, elegance, location, family run hospitality or their amazing historical or local character. With some accommodation properties, like the ancient caves in Matera, being beyond classification!

Why do you stay longer at each stopover?

We want you to enjoy your holiday! Longer stays allows you to experience more in each town, city or region. Another bonus is you are not constantly moving hotels. How delightful to unpack for a number of nights and really experience where you are staying, explore the local area and develop a real feel for the region. Stay longer – see more!

I am a single person travelling, do I need to pay the Single Supplement?

Yes, however individual passengers can request us to match them in a twin share room with another traveller of the same sex. If Albatross Tours are unable to match you in a twin share room by the final tour balance payment date the single room supplement rate will not be charged.

Which of your Christmas tours are most likely to get the best snow?

Unfortunately we cannot guarantee snow however the most likely locations are Switzerland, Austria and Germany for snow over Christmas in Europe.

Before I depart
How much money do I need to budget each day when on tour?

A lot less than you think! Remember that all excursions and activities we display are included in your tour price, with no later offered extras or option lists. The majority of your meals are already included, with some dinners having wine, tea and coffee available.

How much luggage are we allowed on the coach?

We have included hotel porterage of one large suitcase per person. Please advise your Tour Manager, driver or the hotel staff if you require assistance with any further luggage items you are travelling with.

How do I know when my tour is guaranteed to depart?

Your Albatross tour will be guaranteed to depart when there is a minimum of just 10 passengers who have booked and deposited on your chosen departure. If for any reason a tour is unable to be guaranteed we will usually advise all passengers with at least 5 months' notice prior to the departure date.

Am I expected to leave gratuities or tips?

Nothing! We have already taken care of that for you. At Albatross Tours we understand that knowing when to tip, who to tip and how much to tip can make you feel uncomfortable. That’s why we have included all tips whilst you ae ‘on tour’ including the end of the tour tips for your Tour Manager and Driver. That’s makes life easier!

Whilst on tour
What time do I need to get up each morning?

Later! It is rare we start a day before 8:30am. Our longer stats mean you are not constantly checking in and out of hotels all the time and packing and unpacking your bags is not a repetitive chore. The pace is so much more relaxed and most mornings you have time for that second cup of coffee over a relaxing breakfast.

Are the coaches comfortable?

We use first class, full size touring coaches with 40 - 45 seats. Which means on a European Summer Tour where the average group size is 22 passengers everyone gets a window seat and a spare seat! Wi-Fi is available on most coaches and there is an on-board toilet for emergencies.

Note: Occasionally we may also use day charter coaches for sightseeing and in rare cases when touring groups numbers are below 15 we may use a smaller coach, without a toilet.

What is the standard of hotels we stay in?

First class, or even better! What is more, to enhance your touring experience we purposely select unique and authentic accommodation. It is important to us that we select accommodation for their style, elegance, location, amazing historical or local character, and if they are more personal and family run, then all the better.

We see all the rooms being different as adding to your holiday experience. Some unique accommodation we use, like Leeds Castle in England, and the beautiful ‘Sassi’ caves in Matera, Italy, are beyond classification!

What laundry facilities are available on tour?

Where you are staying three or more nights at one hotel they may offer a laundry service. It is imperative that you check prior to dropping any laundry off that it will be returned before you are due to check out of the hotel! The prices for washing are normally per garment.

How much walking is involved on your tours?

Our tours require a moderate level of fitness due to the unique places we visit and stay. On some occasions coach drop off points are 10 minutes or so walk away from an old town centre. If you are joining us on one of our walking tours we recommend comfortable shoes and that you are able to walk at a moderate pace.

Can you cater for special dietary needs?

Yes, of course. When booking your tour please ensure you special dietary needs are advised to Global Journeys. Once you arrive and begin your tour please reconfirm your dietary needs with your Tour Manager. Please note, whilst every effort is made to ensure your dietary needs are properly catered for we cannot guarantee absolute satisfaction every time.

Arrival & departure details

You will be required to make your own way to and from the hotel at the beginning and end of the tour. Albatross are unable to include individual transfers. Global Journeys can book extra pre and post tour accommodation to fit in with your flight arrival and departure dates.

Terms & Conditions

All the boring small print. We recommend you read them, as no one likes surprises!
