Don’t fill up on poutine in Montreal because you’ll need your appetite for this exploration of Canada and America’s Atlantic coast. With the sound of jazz lingering in our ears, we bid farewell to Montreal and journey along the Saint Lawrence river to Québec City, where you can stroll along the cobbled streets of the UNESCO-listed old town, pausing for a maple taffy stick or two. Then we head to the maritime playground of Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine for kayaking, cycling and hiking along its red sandstone cliffs.

Next we come to Nova Scotia, calling at Sydney and Halifax for seafaring history, read more lobster rolls and the world’s largest fiddle (yes, really). South now to Saint John in New Brunswick, home to reversing rapids and sweeping tides, and then into US waters for a stop in Portland, Maine - no visit here would be complete without a taste of its famous lobster. Boston brings a wealth of cultural and culinary experiences and then there’s time for a stop in Newport, Rhode Island, to admire its gilded mansions before our arrival into New York.

Itinerary

Laced with leafy parks and plant-filled neighborhood ‘greenways’, Montreal is a multicultural whirl of traditions and flavors, from the restaurants in Chinatown to the trattorias and cafés of Little Italy. Come hungry for a visit to Mile End – the city’s foodiest district – where the Jean Talon farmers’ market houses dozens of stalls selling local produce, alongside street-food kiosks offering everything from Lebanese meze to Mexican tacos. There’s history, too, in the Gallic streets of the French quarter and the collection of Inuit art at the Museum of Fine Arts, while Eaton Centre Mall is one of Canada’s best shopping destinations.

Arrives: 08:00 Departs: 18:00
Just northeast of the UNESCO-designated Vieux-Québec (Old Town), Montmorency Falls Park enchants with striking flows that are one and a half times taller than Niagara Falls. Explore the streets of the Old Town presided over by the Château Frontenac for a taste of French-Canadian culture found in classic bistros and cafés, and explore proud French history found in numerous museums.

A day at sea with Crystal can be as relaxed or as engaging as you wish. Begin with breakfast on your veranda, take a walk along the Promenade Deck or spend the morning by the Seahorse Pool before retreating to the Aurōra Spa & Salon for a restorative treatment. Enrichment is always close at hand, with lectures, bridge, creative workshops, dance classes, wellness sessions and opportunities to fine tune skills from photography to golf.

Dining is a highlight throughout the day, from relaxed bites by the pool to elegant dinners at venues such as Umi Uma by Nobu, Beefbar or Waterside. As evening arrives, enjoy live music, theatre entertainment, comedy, social gatherings, cocktails in the lounges or a quiet night in with 24-hour in-suite dining.

Arrives: 08:00 Departs: 17:00

Amidst breathtaking nature, find Iles-de-la-Madeleine, a remote archipelago in the Gulf of St. Laurence. Shaped by the forces of nature, this windswept paradise is a picturesque landscape of red sandstone cliffs, rolling dunes, and white sand beaches. Step off the beaten path and wander the narrow, cobblestone streets of the charming french-acadian villages where you can immerse yourself in the history of this maritime culture. Enjoy contemporary life on the island with visits to local artisanal galleries , and when day turns to night, admire the beauty of the northern lights.

Arrives: 07:00 Departs: 16:00
Cape Breton Island’s main city Sydney is peaceful and cozy. This Canadian port town reveals its history in the Heritage & Science museum, and boasts the world’s largest fiddle on the waterfront. Enjoy the coastal scenery on Cabot Trail for a true taste of this special landscape.

Arrives: 08:00 Departs: 16:00
Bagpipers bid a warm welcome to Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia and the most Scottish of all Canada’s great cities. The Citadel Fortress, which dates to the city’s founding in 1749, stands over the thriving downtown area, where modern buildings nestle alongside the exquisitely restored Historic Properties waterfront. Here you can shop for authentic Scottish tartans and superb hand-knit woolens. Nova Scotians claim they have the freshest air and warmest smiles in Canada.

Arrives: 10:00 Departs: 18:00
Here on the Bay of Fundy, a rare phenomenon known as the Reversing Rapids occurs when high bay tides collide with the Saint John River. History is impressive, too, with Canada’s oldest continuously operating farmers’ market and oldest museum. Nearby, Irving Nature Park’s salt marshes, volcanic rock and forests are explored on winding trails.

Arrives: 09:00 Departs: 17:00

The largest city in Maine and the state's social and economic capital, Portland is a vibrant and historic destination. A favorite place for strolling, dining, shopping and entertainment is the Old Port, a revitalized warehouse district made all the more interesting for its connection to the working waterfront. The Arts District is situated just a few blocks away and is considered the city's secret treasure. Word is fast getting out, however, because the neighborhood is home to an array of art galleries, antiques shops, artists' studios and world-class museums such as the Portland Museum of Art. Any exploration of the Arts District should include a walk along Congress Street for a glimpse into the city’s history, a highlight of which is the Wadsworth-Longfellow House, the 19th-century home of the famed poet. Another well-known writer, Stephen King, was born here in Portland in 1947.

Arrives: 07:00 Departs: 16:00
Relive nearly four hundred years of history as you explore the Freedom Trail, the Old North Church and the Boston Common. A few miles away lie Lexington and Concord where the momentous events that began in 1775 come alive. Boston has not been content to rest on the laurels of its glorious past. Progress is everywhere. Glazed high-rises soar skyward and the colorful waterfront area has been artfully renovated.

Arrives: 10:00 Departs: 18:00
A stylish, world-famous yachting center with a long tradition of elegance, the colonial sections of Newport boast many authentic historic buildings, some dating back to the 1600s. Most impressive are the opulent summer "cottages" built by industrial-age tycoons. Fashioned after palaces of Europe, their interiors boast lavish use of marble, alabaster, gilt, mosaics and stained glass complemented by magnificent furnishings and fine tapestries.

Arrives: 07:00
