Christmas Markets galore 0 Christmas on the Rhine , NSW, Australia, Dec 2025
We saw a lot of Christmas markets on the cruise and they were a highlight when not crowded, which they mostly were unfortunately. If we were the only ship at the port then it wouldn't be so bad but often there were upwards of a dozen ships concurrently, making the Christmas markets quite a slog to get through.

The ship itself was good but facilities read more and entertainment were limited (no pool or gym and entertainment was mostly a pianist and on the last night a local easy listening band) and the rooms are smaller than on larger ships. The ship staff were all very good so kudos to Viking for having excellent crew. The food was mostly great also but meal times are less flexible than on larger ocean cruises so you have to eat at the times they dictate (mainly 7pm and later which did not really suit the mostly older passengers); if you wanted food at any other time it was only pastry items like muffins and cookies (but hot drinks from a machine were available 24/7). The ports were mostly right by the main part of town which was very handy, and with the exception of Dordrecht every port stop had a Christmas market (or three) so that was great. Overall it was a good trip but we wouldn't do another river cruise.
Unforgettable positive experience   0 Capitals of Eastern Europe , NSW, Australia, Sep 2025
We have had the most wonderful and worry free experience due to booking with Global Journeys and enjoying the Capitals of Eastern Europe Viking river cruise, plus pre and post cruise extensions. Georgie at Global Journeys, assisted us in every possible way to ensure we were organised, informed, provided with options for extensions and transfers. Her read more advice and organisation made for a seamless cruise experience, giving us the confidence to travel knowing we were very well looked after.

We also felt very comfortable at all times with the care and assistance that Viking offers. Our stateroom on Viking Rinda and the always remarkably outstanding service from the Viking staff made our 21 days on tbe Danube, and in Prague and Transylvania absolutely fantastic. We would thoroughly recommend this cruise itinerary to all who have already explored Western Europe and are ready to see fresh gems of interest. We particularly loved Transylvania and Bucharest in Romania.
Viking River Cruise 0 Grand European Tour , NSW, Australia, Sep 2025
The Ship (Egdir) is a wonderful newish river cruise ship with great staterooms and ammenities. This was our first river cruise and most likely we won’t do another. The entire atmosphere of this particular river cruise was very laid back and may attract whose who are comfortable eating their dinner and going to bed around 8-8:30pm. There is a small piano read more up in the lounge where sitting down and have drinks while listening to the pianist. All drinks need to be paid for as the drink package of very ordinary local beer, wine and soft drinks are only available during lunch and dinner. Even if you wanted to have a soft drink outside of these hours you had to pay.

If you missed breakfast or lunch there’s absolutely nothing to eat and there’s no room service. Absolutely no entertainment at night. The first few locks was the entertainment while on the ship. Then after a few more locks that also became boring. We arrived back on the ship at 1:30pm after an included walking tour and the dining room was closed and nothing to eat on board until 7pm. That’s not a holiday or glamorous as seen on Getaway or other similar advertisements on TV. We filled the river cruise review while I board and gave our suggestions in how to improve the entire concept of river cruising. Let’s see if any notice of our suggestions actually become implemented.
Mekong magic 0 Magnificent Mekong , WA, Australia, Sep 2025
From our initial booking with Viking Cruises through Global Journeys this holiday was a breeze. Nothing to worry about with any organisation done for us. The Mekong River and Delta are incredible, so wide, carrying so much water traffic and life on board the Viking Saigon was luxurious. Food, accommodation and care were exceptional. Apart from the read more climate which was so different to anything we had experienced before this holiday was A1.
Viking Rhine Cruise with Good Friends   1 Rhine Getaway , NSW, Australia, Aug 2025
We loved every minute of this cruise. We have now completed five cruises with Viking with more to come. This was the first with our long time school friends who were also impressed with the Rhine cruise. Georgie from Global Journeys has been fantastic help for many years. We can’t thank her enough and can throughly recommend the Rhine cruise.
Delightful 0 Chateaux, Rivers & Wine , VIC, Australia, Jul 2025
Our trip was better than we could have hoped. Viking lived up to its expected reputation with food, drinks, service and entertainment. What was unexpected was the special dining experience off the boat at a chateau, which was delightful. The itinerary looked repetitious on paper, but also worked wonderfully. I would recommend this trip highly.
Excellent trip through the heart of Europe 0 Grand European Tour , WA, Australia, Jun 2025
This was a real luxury glide through Europe. Viking are a really professional outfit and we felt very well cared for despite one or two hiccups which were due to river levels. The way this was handled was amazingly slick and did not detract from the overall experience.
Amsterdam to Basel 0 Rhine Getaway , TAS, Australia, Jun 2025
Viking is a great cruise company and everything was expertly handled. Hannah kept us informed and provided us with all the necessary papers in good time. Late June and early July are normally not too hot however we did have some very hot conditions and it was always a pleasure to get back on board to our comfortable accommodation. Most of the other read more passengers were American, about 90% I would say. We did make some friends and met like-minded people and enjoyed some stimulating conversations!
Beautiful and relaxing Cruise 0 Paris & the Heart of Normandy , Vic, Australia, May 2025
We loved this Viking river cruise down the Seine. The ship was docked just near the Eiffel Tower making it easy to see the highlights of Paris. Monet’s Garden tour was amazing. We were truly spoilt on the cruise with beautiful food and lovely lounges to sit and meet other people. There was a variety of different music to enjoy. Staff were lovely.
Rhine Cruise   0 Rhine Getaway , NSW, Australia, Apr 2025
Our first river cruise and it didn't disappoint. For us, there were no aspects that were less than our expectations. The staff, service, food, and tours were all excellent, and obviously Viking has it down to a fine art. We cruised with a good bunch of people, who, like us, were full of praise for Viking. Many great memories.
Average Experience Onboard Viking   0 Christmas on the Rhine , NSW, Australia, Nov 2024
Firstly, I would like to commend Hannah on her outstanding support before, during and after my booking. She was very responsive, very informative and addressed every question I had, even making suggestions for some of my queries. I would be looking for her to handle any of my future tours again.

Having sailed on an Avalon river cruise before, it read more was difficult not to compare that experience with this European Christmas markets river cruise with Viking. Overall, I would prefer Avalon over Viking with the caveat that I sailed Avalon just before Covid and I don't know what their standard is like today. I will know soon as I'm already booked for another Avalon river cruise next Aug.

We found the Viking crew not as proactive in engaging with passengers, especially when there is an expectation that we be well informed of pertinent details to do with docking and departure times for each day of sailing. While most of what we needed to know was available somewhere, it took effort on our part to hunt down information. A number of passengers also mentioned the same observation.

Our cabin was also smaller than the Avalon equivalent making movement quite restrictive. Certainly the in-room TV channels were inferior in terms of variety with mainly news channels dominating. As far as meals go, again they were lacking in standard and variety with very few standout dishes compared to what we remember getting from Avalon. Another area of disappointment for us was the absence of two-seater dining tables for occasions when we wanted a quiet dinner by ourselves, in contrast with what Avalon offered, though not sure if this ship's dining room was configured differently to other Viking ships.

When it came to shore excursions, the crew was mostly disorganised and caused confusion among the travellers as to which group or bus they should be on. This happened a lot during our journey. That aside, the holiday was great outside the ship and I managed to tick this cruise off my bucket list. If you've never experienced an European Christmas markets tour, this itinerary could be the one.
Viking Ullur River Cruise 0 Passage to Eastern Europe , QLD, Australia, Oct 2024
Eastern Europe Viking River Cruise on Viking Ullur in October. First time on a Viking River cruise and we were disappointed. Good ship layout and cabin, however food was average. The Viking Ullur is a 'silent ship' which means there are no commentaries while you are sailing and no announcements of anything at all. The 7-day cruise was at times a read more little boring as there was not much to see. Years earlier we sailed on a Scenic River Cruise which we enjoyed much more. Personally, we would not sail on a Viking River Cruise again. We have used Global Journeys services for several trips and Hannah has been excellent. We would highly recommend Global Journeys.
Relaxing cruise on the Danube   1 Romantic Danube , QLD, Australia, Aug 2024
Having previously sailed with Viking Cruises we were looking forward to this very much. The service on Viking ships is wonderful, the staff excellent and the food just much too good to resist but that’s okay you are on holiday after all! This was a lovely relaxing cruise down the Danube and the onboard entertainment was very nice especially the two read more young dancers who taught us how to waltz!

Compared to our previous Rhine and Rhone cruises we did find the optional tours seemed to take precedence over the included tours which in the main where mostly walking tours near the ship and the post extension in Budapest while being a lovely two days, included a tour that was basically a half hour walk round the hotel. We were also disappointed with the airport transfer as the Viking host did not turn up at the airport and even after being paged didn’t show so we checked in ourselves not a big deal except we were both unwell with a virus and this didn’t help.

All in all this cruise was very enjoyable and we met some lovely people and couldn’t fault the staff on the Viking Tor but would still put the Rhine and Rhone cruises first.
Excellent Mekong tour 0 Magnificent Mekong , NSW, Australia, Aug 2024
We loved the land and river cruise portions of the trip. 5 star accommodation and excellent ship. Crew and Tour Directors were all fantastic. And the food was great too.
Amazing Grand European 2 Grand European Tour , VIC, Australia, Jun 2024
Had an amazing time on our river cruise. We were apprehensive as southern Germany had floods and a lot of ships were stranded or even cancelled. Viking were very good explaining to us the options and even though we had to change ships at Nuremburg it was relatively stress free. The crew on both ships were fantastic. You certainly won't go hungry as read more the food is amazing. We visited some amazing towns and cities and wish we had more free time to explore. I suggest skipping some tours and explore on your own, eat as a local and drink the local beer or sample the wine. We met a lot of wonderful people from other countries and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

Didn't select the drinks package as we didn't think we would meet the price they charge and we made the right decision as you get beer and wine with lunch and dinner. Only let down is the lack of laundry facilities on a cruise this long. We spent over 300 euro getting laundry done and ironed over the 15 days. Apart from that we wouldn't hesitate doing another Viking river cruise.
Amsterdam to Budapest- a wonderful experience 3 Grand European Tour , WA, Australia, May 2024
The organisation from our travel adviser and Viking was clear and timely; the boat was as good as the pictures, the catering was a highlight; the city excursions were interesting and well organised; all the staff were top class in their work, especially our stateroom attendant, the tours organiser and the chef, cooks and waiters, (and no doubt the read more crew and engineers, etc). We were delighted with the holiday, especially as the weather was good for May.

Two points. Our embarkation place in Amsterdam was not clearly enough described. Our taxi took us to the Viking Office; we had a km walk with cases to the actual docking points. More advice about finding the right spot would help.

Secondly, the staff would not provide any assistance in obtaining some extra pain relief medicines that became necessary - quoting company policies. We received kind help from some American fellow passengers who were much better prepared, (until we reached a port on a week day where we could find an apothotek.) More explicit advice to bring your own range of medicine supplies to address all eventualities would be helpful. Some European countries are quite restricted in what can be sold over the counter.
Viking Victorious   4 Grand European Tour , NSW, Australia, Mar 2024
My wife and I did a 15 day Grand European River Tour with Viking. They were fantastic and would highly recommend this river cruise. All the staff were wonderful and the food was fantastic. We travelled from Amsterdam to Budapest and went thru 68 lochs.
The scenery was spectacular. Our highlights were Vienna and Budapest. Will be traveling with Viking again.
Very relaxing River Cruise through the Capitals of Eastern Europe   0 Capitals of Eastern Europe , QLD, Australia, Mar 2024
We recently took a river cruise through the capitals of Eastern Europe organized by Global Journeys. The entire experience was truly wonderful. From start to finish, the trip was impeccably organized, with every detail carefully planned out. The itinerary was well thought out, allowing us to explore the beauty and history of each destination comfortably. read more The excursions, and overall service exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend.
One of the best river cruises we have been on. 0 Capitals of Eastern Europe , QLD, Australia, Mar 2024
Viking certainly excelled with this cruise. We wanted to go to Egypt to see the pyramids up close so we booked The Pharaohs and Pyramids cruise with Global Journeys. Great choice for a river cruise. The Great Pyramids of Giza were surprisingly close to Cairo and truly a sight to behold. One's mind boggles trying to understand how they were built thousands read more of years ago.

Interesting to view the Nile and the surrounding countryside from the air on the way to Luxor to board our cruise. Over the next week we were enthralled with daily excursions to numerous archaeological sites where the ruins were amazing. The architecture from that era was exceptional and incredibly well preserved. The Valley of the Kings was a real eye opener. The burial chambers had to be seen to be believed. We were able to enter the tomb of Ramses II which must have been about 100 metres down the steps and chambers until we entered the final chamber. Tutankhamun's tomb where his mummified body was on display in comparison was relatively close to the surface. Another modern feat architecturally was the massive Aswan Dam that was built to successfully alleviate flooding downstream as well as electricity generation. Don't miss this trip!
Perfect way to see Europe 2 Grand European Tour , QLD, Australia, Dec 2023
Two weeks aboard Viking River Ships is the most relaxing way to explore a beautiful part of Europe. To wake up in the morning and look out the floor to ceiling window and see the stunning river and scenery go past is magical. Viking made everything so seamless (including a ship swap due to flooding rivers). The staff were incredible and the ship was read more so comfortable and beautifully decorated for Christmas. Each town and city offered something different and we had plenty of free time in each place. A truly perfect way to travel.
