First cruise with Avalon and found it the most enjoyable 1

Dealing with Georgie was a pleasure, she could not do enough to make everything run smoothly for us. She arranged an Avalon river cruise Amsterdam to Budapest then six days later a 16 Day Italy and Sicily coach tour. This was our third Europe river cruise and our first with Avalon and found it the most enjoyable of the three, everything was great, we read more could not fault it. It was our fourth coach tour with Insight and the organising by Georgie was spot on, many thanks and any future tours we may do will be definitely be booked through Global Journeys.
Fantastic cruise, very well organised, great staff. Food was superb with a great variety of choice for all tastes.
We had expectations that the cruise would be good having read the Avalon reviews. We certainly were not disappointed with anything that was provided or was organised for us first rate. The food was alway a choice and was first rate all the time. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone at any time. The boat was cleaned with an inch of its like all the read more time. The crew, we could not speak highly enough of for their service and standards. The nautic crew could and did drive with skill, nighttime crusing was bumpfree and very quite. The cruise director arranged some medical tests for us and contacted Avalon to ensure the hospitals we were to attend were the correct ones. There was always follow up. Only on negative I will say is Avalon needs to address is the very very poor wifi and boat internet access, even in port this was very slow and really not satisfactory.

My husband and I did enjoy the cruise but we were a little disappointed with a couple of the things. One of the optional tours we went on we spent so long on the coach and only had a short time at our destination. I would rather have stayed and explored the village we had docked at than travelled all the way we did. Also it would have been great if read more there had been a games night or trivia night, or even a movie night on one of the evenings - just another way of getting to meet some more of the people on the cruise.
The river cruise provided every comfort, the tours were both informative and entertaining. The service by Georgie of Global Journeys was exceptional, to find us a cruise vacancy after a late request and with all my queries answered promptly.
It was far better than we expected. The crew were fantastic and very friendly and helpful. The boat was fantastic. The food was excellent.

The trip was wonderful. I would have liked some of the extra excursions to be to places other than churches, I am sure there is more than that to see in the area. The local guides seemed to get annoyed if we decided to do our own thing as opposed to taking their tours. Would have been good if there was actually more river cruising and announcements read more as to what we were passing. Not being able to get out on deck on cruising days was frustrating, The front of the ship only allows space for around 20 people. The food was very good however usually not hot. The internet connection was almost non-existent. Very disappointing for this day and age. The crew and ship were exceptional. Could not fault anything they did.

If you're looking for a peaceful cruise with lots of activities, brilliant food, precision planning and friendly efficient staff AND want to save a couple of thousand dollars, book an Avalon Cruise with Global Journeys. Whether you're after an active or leisurely tour, you will get great value from an Avalon Cruise. Place your bags down once and never read more touch them until the end, I'll certainly be going again.
Everything was organised to perfection starting with my experience with Yvonne and Georgie. Even the weather during the river cruise cooperated (well mostly). The Rhine was too full so we had to complete the last leg by coach, but that actually worked to my advantage. The food was first class, the staff were excellent, the entertainment was fun and read more the ship itself was beautiful. This was my first river cruise and, if I could afford to, I would do it again without question. With the exception of the tour in Cologne, all the tours were great and the tour guides were informative and interesting.
Really well organised, great food, excellent accommodation. The tour guides were particularly good - real enthusiasts and great personalities!

Ship was extremely comfortable, (beautiful cabins) and great variety of food. The only downside of our cruise was the cruise director, and in my opinion they are there to 'set the tone' of a cruise. The cruise director was no doubt very organised, but lacked personality and did not provide passengers with enough information for each port. (eg in Heidelberg read more the passengers were advised of 3 types of tours determined by difficulty. It was indicated that to go to the castle was quite a climb .....which I may not have managed. As it was the bus took the tour right to the castle, with only about 8 steps to walk, very manageable for myself, but I missed this due to lack of communication by a very unapproachable director). The excursions were too regimented, especially in Germany. The French guides were far more relaxed and delivered their tours with enthusiasm.
Only criticism was too much food on the Cruise 2

The tour was great, everything went smoothly except a transfer, but these things happen. The only criticism was there was simply too much food on the Avalon River Cruise, especially the dinners. We only went to one dinner, it was not worth sitting through all the courses of food you couldn't eat. The staff and crew were all helpful and friendly and read more most of the guides informative and easy to understand.
I would not book a river cruise with included fixed gratuities again because it gave me no flexibility in my reward for good service. I would have preferred to direct the tour directors gratuity to others on the crew, as he was found to be very shallow and wanting when it came to interpersonal skills. Otherwise, we enjoyed the experience and would have read more no hesitation in booking with Global Journeys in the future - Georgie was very helpful and informative throughout our transactions.

The cruise was with 'Avalon Waterways' from Budapest to Amsterdam. Global Journeys gave us valuable advice on many different aspects of this holiday, and provided a very friendly and professional service. We have just booked another holiday through them, and have no hesitation in recommending them to our friends.

Our 7-day cruise on the Rhine offered more than we expected.
Sue and I thought our tour organised through Global Journeys was wonderful. The crew on Avalon Felicity were very welcoming and the service was first class. Our cabin was very comfortable with plenty of space for luggage. Dinner and drinks was a highlight to end every day. The itinerary and the shore excursions were well arranged to show us the various read more cities and surrounds. The local tour guides were well suited with a nice mix of information, stories and a bit of humour. All in all, the tour was a treat. Thank you Yvonne very much for your most efficient and helpful arranging of our tour.
Thought it was very expensive. Had impression we had a balcony but really it was a door which opened! There was not even two comfortable chairs to sit in and look out you had to sit on the bed! Food was good and plentiful. Little time to just relax.

Whilst we could not complain about the standard of service or food or land tours on this cruise we found that unfortunately there we would have preferred more time at some stops and less at others. We also found the formality of dressing and multi-course meals at dinnertime too much. The food was touted as being representative of the local dishes. In read more general we could not agree. Also their beer selection was very poor. We probably would not consider another Avalon tour.
Our river cruise fulfilled all our expectations and more; from the excellent accommodation and facilities to the efficient and courteous staff, not to forget the excellent excursions. We could not have wished for more.

Overall we were very happy with the River Boat Cruise, however we would have preferred a light dinner option, and a room service option for nights where we wanted to spend in our cabin after a long day touring. Overall we have rated this cruise as very good.
