My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this, our first cruise. Everything about it was impressive. The staff were all very courteous, friendly and efficient and made us feel very special. The meals were of superb quality and there were many options to choose from for each meal. The tour Director, Arkos, was outstanding in his vast knowledge of history and read more geography of everywhere we went. His organisation was superb, ensuring that everything ran like clockwork. He is a great asset to Avalon. The tours were all good, but some of the optional tours seemed a little expensive and a few of them perhaps should have been included in the tour price. Overall it was a wonderful experience and we have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

It was a great experience with all activities being very well organised. The included walking tours sometimes took too long with a lot of information being provided. We decided if a town was close enough to the ship we would take off and do our own thing, this just gave us a break from information overload and gave us a chance to explore at our own read more pace. We were very with the optional tours we decided to undertake. The Tour Director, Robert, was exceptionally well organised and communicated the day's activities very well and was quite humorous when delivering his briefings. However we found him to be a little brusque and stand offish to deal with one on one. The food was excellent and could not be faulted. A minor criticism was that the bar staff seemed to be under trained. Often they would get the drink orders wrong and drinks were often a long time coming, particularly during happy hour. On most occasions you could only manage one round of drinks during happy hour. Our cabin was very comfortable and above what we expected of a lower deck cabin. Overall we enjoyed the experience and have come away with some great memories.

Overall Avalon was to a very high standard and we were very lucky to be on a new ship. High points were Salzburg tour and excellent presentation and professionalism of the crew and ship. The two low points were the Bistro dinner which was way too rushed (either serve so the food in a timely way or do not offer the bistro) and night tour of Amsterdam read more which was a waste of time and money. We had a great time and a most enjoyable tour and appreciated the lovely Sekt wine given to us for our 30th anniversary (even though I didn't tell anyone in the crew!)

Paris to Normandy

We enjoyed our river cruise and trip to Normandy. The cruise director was great and helped us with all our enquiries. We would book a trip with you again in the future and recommend it to our friends.
Lovely scenic cruise. Really enjoyed the first pre cruise optional to Mt Platimus in Lucerne. Only optional tour that was a bit of a rip off was the German Night as the meal was terrible and other people just walked into town and to the same restaurant sat down and ordered what they wanted and listened to the music (not up to the other optional tour read more standards) the rest of the cruise was fantastic. Some of the walking tours were a bit dragged out. We took all of the optional tours and they were good - except the German Night. We had just been on the Essential Britian coach tour prior to this river cruise and the Scottish Evening was much better planned. Thanks Georgie - you did very well organising the 2 tours for us.
The food, tours, tour director and guides were all first rate 2

Would highly recommend Avalon cruise company. The experience was wonderful and both mum (82) and I (55) thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The food, the tours, the tour director and guides were all first rate. We would recommend this to anyone interested in learning about that part of the world as well as those who enjoy good company and meeting new and interesting read more travellers. Thanks Michelle.

Overall our Avalon experience was far better than any expectation we had. Our cruise director, Stefano, went well beyond any duty he had to us - even organising for us to hire a wheel chair when one of our group was ill. All staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Food was wonderful and at dinner the accompanying wines were top notch. Bar drinks read more were very reasonably priced (even more so during half price happy hour just before dinner). Our Stateroom had ample storage. Would have been nice if there had been room for a second chair but the lack of the chair would have to be my only negative comment. The whole ship was immaculately clean. I cannot give high enough praise for all staff and the whole experience.

Global Journeys was an easy fuss free booking for our Avalon cruise. Great service from Georgie our consultant. The cruise was great, the cruise director staff and other passengers made the holiday. I would recommend this cruise to anybody who likes history, wine and food - we will definitely book another river cruise with Avalon.

I felt that everything was well planned, and the staff were very co-operative. We loved all the tours and the food and wine was excellent.
Overall we had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday with Avalon. However we were a little disappointed with the limited on ship activities. Having cruised before by ship we would have thought there might have been more on ship entertainment from the local areas. The overall pace of the days tours etc was full on which meant that the cruise was not as relaxing read more as we had expected. Cabin air conditioning was also too variable for our liking and with the duvets we were often very hot at night or cold without it. Staff were excellent. The food was great however the organisation for the buffet and breakfast was quite chaotic with people going in all directions. One small glitch in that our documentation indicated cabin 223 however we were put in cabin 233.

This Avalon River Cruise was very enjoyable and very relaxing. Staff we excellent as was the tour director. Some little extras were included as well as day excursion to Bulgaria and a home dinner with a Croatian family to make the holiday special. Drinks included with dinner were generous and appreciated. Had the feeling it wasn't all about making money read more but rather providing a great holiday to their passengers. Certainly would recommend Avalon River Cruises.

Absolutely loved the trip and wished we could stay on the boat forever. The food was to die for and the crew a real delight. The special entertainers were wonderful as was the piano man each night. The tour manager was excellent. Thank you so much for the tour of our life.

Our Grand France river cruise was well paced and provided a fair bit of variety with places that the boat docks. Both crews were excellent and worked hard to keep the passengers happy. Possibly the only downside was the extra day spent in Monte carlo, it was a long coach trip to an expensive congested town. Seemed pointless, a closer trip into Nice read more would have surfficed if there needed to be an extra day in the process. The high risk activity on both the boats was the food. It was first class and plentiful. I needed to spend the next 4 weeks undoing the damage it did to my waistline.

Only minor disappointment was the location and quality of accommodation at the Pullman Montparnasse. Given how very good the Fairmont and the river cruise were.
The cruise was an amazing experience, and like staying on a floating five star hotel. It was a great way to see a lot of Europe in a little amount of time, and with no hassles. As very independent travellers we would have liked a little more time to explore on our own, however we realise there are constraints due to scheduling and travel time. Another read more thing we would have liked would have been more tables for 2 in the restaurant for dinner - there were only two tables configured that way, and they were always in hot demand, so other travellers obviously felt they same way. Our tour guide was excellent, very efficent, patient and 'no fuss'. The crew were all good, service excellent. The captain did an amazing job getting us through all the lochs, as most of the other cruise ships were 'bussing' their guests between locations due to low water issues. Global Journeys were great to deal with in arranging the river cruise, and all my many queries were answered professionally and promptly - thank you Hannah!

Exceptional organisation, superb accommodation, wonderful staff and crew, and Sabine was our delightful, extremely knowledgeable and friendly cruise director. The food was fantastic and life on board was marvellous. Also all the local guides for the shore tours were brilliant - the tours were very well paced and most of the guides made them especially read more memorable by mixing loads of local knowledge with good humour. Unfortunately no-one could control the weather - very little sunshine. All in all, a fantastic experience that we would highly recommend to anyone.
