Great holiday, weather wasn't so great as it was quite cold but it didn't rain and it didn't stop us from enjoying every moment. Food and cruise personnel were fabulous, couldn't do enough for you. The stops along the way were good and the excursions from the boat well worth it.

A first time experience of river cruising, has left two somewhat skeptical starters, converted. We had responded to the "you must do this" from friends with an open mind and have returned having enjoyed a wonderful experience. The ship, the tour director, and the crew were fantastic and the excursions were well organised and led by experienced and informative read more local guides. We have no comparisons, but we like the way Avalon do things, and we are very thankful that we had Yvonne from Global Journeys guiding us through the arrangements. Thank you.

This was a wonderfully run tour. Our tour leader, Danielle, was always able to make things work e.g. When the water was too high north of Lyon, to take the boat under the bridge, she organised different day trips and bussed us to them at no charge, to make up for what we'd missed. The staff were amazingly pleasant and all displayed a great sense of read more humour. Service was fantastic and the food was fabulous! The beds were very comfortable and every need was met within the cabins. To add to the experience, we met so many lovely travellers with whom we related and hopefully this will be the beginning of many years of friendship despite the distance that separates us.
Fantastic 8 day Rhine River cruise from Basel to Amsterdam, visited some wonderful places. Saw some good Christmas Markets as it was that time of year. Avalon Waterways is a great company to cruise with, highly recommend them and will cruise with them again. A big thank you to Emily for booking the cruise, nothing to hard and documents arrived with plenty of time.

Traveled on the Avalon Impression, which was beautiful ship and our room on the Royal Deck was fantastic. The staff were great and had to deal with two incidents involving other boats, which impacted on our cruise, but dealt with those situations efficiently and graciously. Loved the places we visited and the tour guides we were allocated. Spending read more time in the Christmas markets in the lead up to Xmas was fantastic: the atmosphere is great and we enjoyed the sights, smells and sounds, which certainly put us in a festive mood. Would recommend this trip.

Our Christmas cruise was wonderful, it was just one amazing Christmas market after another and in between each beautiful village we visited we were spoiled back on board our floating hotel with fabulous food and extremely comfortable rooms and service. The booking process was easy and the service we received from Yvonne was marvellous, we will definitely read more use Global Journeys again.

This was the best holiday we have ever had. The Cruise Guide was amazing and made everything hassle free from Day 1. Accommodation & service was excellent and the meals on board were outstanding. Great tour guides were organized at the key tourist stops & we loved walking through the villages exploring in our free time. Our fellow travelers were a read more good mix & we developed some good friendships. We would recommend Avalon to anyone who wishes to holiday on the rivers. Global Journeys were so easy to book the holiday through, especially with Michelle White assisting us to follow the process. The Internet booking system is so well set up & responses to each stage were immediate. The hotel bookings, transfers, river cruise & airline bookings all progressed without any problems. Thank you to Michelle at Global Journeys & the Avalon team.

We had a small hiccup with transfers from Bangkok to Yangon during our pre-cruise extension, but in the end, Avalon sorted the problem. The upper Irrawaddy cruise was probably the best part, as you were away from all the normal tourist sites. Meeting with and mixing among the locals in villages, at monasteries, and seeing normal village life was the read more best. Once you near Mandalay, the 'sellers' are a bit like flys - they hang around and follow you, but they are nice people, anyway. Being in the country during their election was special. The Avalon boat crew and local guides were fantastic - you couldn't ask for better. The service we received from Global Journeys was great - thanks.
Expected all cabins to have large windows 1

We expected all cabins to have large windows but, we were on the bottom deck and had just two small windows which were high up and could hardly see anything. We understand why but could have been told about this so we could book cabins on the upper decks. This aspect was really very dissapointing.

We loved the experience of the river boat having only ever travelled on cruise ships previously. The staff were excellent as was the food. We found the shore excursions a little tiresome with too much information provided by the local guides. It is impossible to remember all this information and really, if you want to know something, just look it read more up on the internet when you get home. The places they showed us were great but we were standing far too long listening to the history lesson. Global Journeys, as usual were fantastic with the booking and paper work with a great thanks to Hannah Campbell in this regard. We would definitely go with Avalon again and will always book with Global Journeys. They always seem to come up with the best price as well as being very professional.
The river cruise was excellent we are convinced small boat cruising is the best. Some of the outstanding features on the cruise were; the on board staff; tour director; on-board catering; general peace a serenity of this type of holiday. On the other side, some things that could be improved are; 1) the wines on a couple of the paid tasting excursions read more were sub standard compared to those available in Australia for comparable prices. The exception being the winery near Avignon. 2) Monte Carlo was a considerable disappointment way overpriced. In particular we strongly recommend that Avalon changes the location of the last nights tour dinner. This establishment let down the tour by; serving sub standard food, no choice of white wine for the main, stone cold poorly made coffee and finally the staffs attitude.
We had an enjoyable, relaxing and fun Romantic Rhine River cruise. The quality of food and beverages was very good and the atmosphere was excellent. As the cruise ship which we on was quite new, the facilities were excellent. Booking our holiday was a breeze with Global Journeys and all inquires were quickly and professionally attended to by our cruise read more consultant, Emily. We certainly recommend this cruise! It was all very good,restful & well organised! There was not much entertainment, mostly just a one man band, but good music to dance to & have fun. No complaints really!
This was a beautiful ship and luckily was able to pass through all the low river levels with the aid of a specially employed pilot. The food was of high quality and the staff absolutely outstanding in every way. We benefited from only 50% occupancy and it probably would not have been quite as pleasant with a full ship, so we would recommend travelling read more out of peak season. The cruise itself was superb and we were very lucky with the weather sunny skies throughout and no rain with temperatures between 16 and 21 all the way.
Absolutely lovely trip, we stayed in the bottom cabins but it was great. You do not have time to sit and watch the view and if you do then you can go to one of the two lounges or the sun deck.

We loved the river cruise format as it was a simple matter of enjoying each days activities without having to drag all of the luggage around. The room was excellent and the service and food was first class.

This was our first river cruise and we absolutely loved it and we will recommend to anyone. The staff were so polite and very helpful and the excursions were very informative. Robert really made the trip with his dry humour and knowledge. The crew where very pleasant and helpful. Water level problems were handled without us missing out on anything, and Robert even under stress was unflappable. Felt pampered and spoilt the whole way.

We thoroughly enjoyed the cruise and everything went according to plan, no hiccups what so ever with flights, airport pickup and departure from hotel. Hotels in Budapest and Prague were 1st class. The tour guides were very helpful and accommodating and local guides very good. What more can we say, no complaints whatever. Thank you Yvonne for an excellent service.
