Oceania Cruises Health and Safety Protocols have been developed by their Healthy Sail Panel – a team of cross-disciplinary experts enlisted to guide the cruise industry’s way forward in response to COVID-19. The panel is comprised of globally recognised specialists in public health to develop, implement and continually evolve industry leading standards.

The elevated protocols developed in response to current needs, cover all aspects of onboard and shoreside operations to protect guests, crew and the communities their ships visit. They have engaged some of the world's most experienced medical experts to develop industry leading protocols to keep you healthy and safe on your cruise holiday.

Their concern for your health and wellbeing begins well before your journey starts and continues each and every day aboard Oceania’s ships, which feature stringent health and sanitation protocols.  The enhanced health, wellbeing and safety protocols are detailed below.

Oceania's R Class Ships

Enhanced Sanitation on Each Ship

Oceania’s 24/7 prevention schedule features continuous disinfection of public areas and high-traffic touch points as well as daily fogging of all staterooms and suites, public spaces, and guest corridors. The fogging process utilizes a hospital-grade oxidant that is natural, safe, and non-toxic. Guest staterooms and suites will receive intensive microbial disinfection daily, which includes fogging of the entire space inclusive of bathrooms and closets. All ships are disinfected, evaluated, and certified as virus-free when they re-enter service. This service is performed by Sabre BioResponse, the world leader in decontamination services.

Hospital Grade Air filtration

New, upgraded HVAC systems will incorporate the latest advances to be superior to those found in land based resorts. Each ship will utilise fresh air induction and be equipped with the highest tier HEPA 13 medical-grade filters

A Dedicated Public Health Officer

Each ship will have a dedicated Public Health Officer on board, responsible for the oversight of all outbreak prevention initiatives. Additionally, they will monitor the sanitation and cleanliness of all public areas and accommodations, maintaining compliance with the CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program. The Public Health Office will work with the ship’s medical team on board as well as the corporate Public Health and Medical departments shoreside.

Itinerary Reviews

Oceania will constantly monitor the global health map and cancel or modify itineraries to impacted areas as needed. Further, guests and crew who have recently travelled through high risk locations may be prevented from boarding.

Reduced Passenger Numbers

Oceania have reduced shipboard guest capacity to provide even more space for responsible social distancing. This includes reduced seating in entertainment venues, smaller group sizes for shore excursions, culinary classes, and onboard activities, along with increased spacing in dining venues.  Each of these steps provide for effective social distancing practices.

Pre-embarkation Health Screening

All guests will undergo pre-embarkation health screening.

Socially Responsible Embarkation

Once it is time to start your voyage, Oceania have designed an enhanced, staggered embarkation and check-in process for proper social distancing. This also includes a new state-of-the-art touchless temperature screening. Embarkation terminals will be sanitised continuously, and terminals will be thoroughly sanitised and, where possible, fogged before and after each embarkation and debarkation.

Contactless Food Service

Contactless food and beverage service is being implemented across all ships with service staff stationed across the ship, including Terrace Café, Horizons, Baristas, Waves Grill and all restaurants and lounges. Of course, all guests will be required to engage in frequent handwashing and hand sanitiser will be prominently placed and easily accessible throughout the ship.

Local Partners in Prevention

We’re partnering with our local destinations and tour operators to ensure our industry-leading health and sanitation protocols extend to the shoreside experience. Embarkation terminals, tour coaches, and the attractions we visit must have appropriate health and safety protocols in place.

Safety for the crew

Oceania are also concerned for their crew, keeping them healthy using the most advanced technologies and practices.

Pre-embarkation Health Screening

All guests will undergo an extensive pre-embarkation health screening and those considered at risk will undergo additional screening.

With your health safety and wellbeing at heart, Oceania have steps and processes in place so that you can plan your next cruise holiday with them with confidence.
