Stretching 30 mi (50 km) in length and varying from 4 to 12 mi (6 to 19 km) in width, Guam stands as the largest jewel in the crown of the Mariana Island archipelago and Micronesia. Living up to its territorial motto, 'Where America's Day Begins,' Guam holds the unique distinction of being the westernmost point and territory of the United States in Oceania. Nestled close to the International Date Line, it serves as a gateway from Hawaii to the Philippines, marking the dawn of each new day in America. Guam is renowned for its stunning beaches, rich Chamorro culture, and historical sites echoing tales of Spanish colonization and World War II. Its tropical climate, teeming marine life, and pristine white sands make it an idyllic destination for water enthusiasts and those seeking tranquility alike.

Each Seabourn ship offers a choice of dining venues to suit your mood of the moment. Chuuk State, located in the central Pacific, is composed of the volcanic islands in the Chuuk Lagoon and 24 outer island atolls. It was previously known as Truk. Chuuk State also includes several more sparsely populated 'outer island' groups including the Mortlock Islands, the Hall Islands (Pafeng), Namonuito Atoll, and the Pattiw Region to the west. 'Truk atoll' was the seat of Japan's main naval base in the South Pacific during World War II. There are tons of scattered historical artifacts and military equipment to be found, including more than 50 well-preserved shipwrecks and planes in the lagoon.

Wreck diving enthusiasts come from all over the world to see its numerous, sunken ships, sometimes referred to as the 'Ghost Fleet of Truk Lagoon'. The vast, shallow, and beautiful Chuuk lagoon is also full of hard and soft corals that form a kaleidoscope of colors and sustain a diverse undersea life.

Arrives: 8:00 Departs: 17:00

This Pacific atoll is one of many in the Caroline Islands in Micronesia. It is one of the few central Pacific high island bridges that enable marine and terrestrial life to migrate from the Indo-Malay region into the Pacific. This characteristic, along with its geographic isolation, has resulted in a high level of species diversity and endemism.  Oroluk is an important nesting site for Green Turtles and hosts a large breeding colony of Black Noddies and other seabirds. The atoll has been declared a marine sanctuary by the Pohnpei State government and traditional leaders.

Included Expeditions:

  • Scuba Diving

Espiritu Santo Island is the largest in Vanuatu and the seat of the provincial capital, in Luganville. The island's unusual name (for Vanuatu) dates back to a Spanish exploration of the region in the 17th century. The name given by the leader of the expedition, Portuguese Navigator Pedro Fernández de Quirós was Terra Austrialia del Espiritu Santo. The name 'Austrialia' was said to be a reference to the Hapsburg rulers of Spain (in Austria) and the yet-undiscovered southern continent referred to as Terra Australis.

During WWII, Luganville was the site of an Allied military installment. At the end of the war, instead of returning most of the supplies and equipment back to their origins, it was sent off into the ocean and left behind. This has contributed significantly to dive and snorkel tourism in the region, including an area called 'Million Dollar Point', for the amount money said to be scuttled there in wrecks under the sea.

Its healthy forest ecosystem can support myriads of birds and it is often nicknamed 'Bird Island'.

The people here are also highly skilled in the production of outrigger canoes and are specifically known for their carved, wooden bowls which are used in kava (known in Fiji as Yaqona) ceremonies. The island and its lagoon area also famous for crystal clear water and healthy coral. The international date line, established in 1884, passes through the mid-Pacific Ocean and roughly follows a 180 degrees longitude north to south line on the Earth. It does zigzag around political borders such as eastern Russia and Alaska’s Aleutian Islands.

Crossing the date line eastbound decreases the date by one day, while crossing the date line westbound increases the date. So when you cross east to west you always lose a day and crossing from west to east you get the same day twice (or gain a day).
