Itinerary

Welcome to the ancient city of Athens, the 'Cradle of Western Civilisation'. If your schedule is tight, savor traditional Greek coffee at a café with a view of the city's iconic ruins, soaking in the historic ambiance before your cruise departs. If you've got time to explore the Acropolis stands as a must-see, a UNESCO World Heritage site, adorned with iconic structures like the Parthenon and nearby Temple of Olympian Zeus. The nearby Acropolis Museum showcases stunning artifacts from ancient Greece, providing deeper insight into the city's heritage.

Hydra, a picturesque island in the Saronic Gulf, is famous for its charming stone architecture and absence of cars. Begin your visit by strolling along the bustling harbor, where traditional fishing boats and luxury yachts coexist. Explore the narrow, cobbled streets lined with boutiques, art galleries, and cafes, reflecting the island's artistic heritage.

For a touch of history, visit the Historical Archives Museum, housing exhibits on Hydra's maritime past. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon at Mandraki Bay, a serene spot perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Take a walk to the Monastery of Prophet Elias for breathtaking views of the island and surrounding sea. Browse local markets for unique souvenirs and handmade crafts to complete your visit

With perfect beaches, crystal clear waters, and evocative fortress-capped mountains, Nafplion is a sun-soaked Greek beauty. The beautiful town is staggered up green hillsides and filled with old mansions, paved paths and a Neoclassical feel. Ships will anchor offshore and tenders will be provided to the pier.

Top Things to Do in Nafplion:

  • visit the ancient sites of Epidaurus and Mycenae
  • take in the views from the Paladimi Fortress
  • visit Corinth and cross the canal by boat
  • sample some local wine or ouzo

Sailing in the waters of Santorini caldera is breathtaking. The gigantic scale of the unique setting, the majesty of the high cliffs surrounds this ancient crater that was flooded in 2000 years before Christ, is one of the highlights of the cruise. From your ship, the colourful whites, greys, reds of the volcanic rocks, the blue of the Aegean Sea and the immaculate perched villages form a unique and marvellous spectacle.

The easternmost of the Cyclades, Amorgos has been inhabited since ancient times, though in some places, seems as if it hasn’t been since. Minoan tombs and towers dot the countryside, shipwrecks teeter on secluded beaches, and massive monasteries with few residents emerge from rock faces. Ships will anchor offshore and tenders will be provided to Katapola.

Top Things to Do on Amorgos:

  • visit the Hozoviotissa Monastery
  • explore the caves at Mouros Beach
  • taste the Psimeni Raki, a local sweet liqueur
  • hike up to the ancient city ruins of Minoa

Symi, Greece, is a picturesque gem in the Dodecanese, renowned for its neoclassical harbour adorned with pastel-coloured buildings cascading down to the azure sea.

This charming island is steeped in history, with the Monastery of Archangel Michael Panormitis as a highlight—a place of pilgrimage with stunning frescoes and a rich maritime heritage.

Cruise ships anchor at Symi’s main port, Gialos, conveniently allowing visitors to step directly into the vibrant atmosphere of its waterfront cafes and shops.

The island's compact size makes it ideal for exploring on foot, with inviting alleys and staircases leading to breathtaking views and secluded spots. Symi offers a tranquil escape with a vivid glimpse into traditional Greek island life.

Patmos Island boasts idyllic beaches, swimming coves and historic hilltop mansions. Though many are drawn to Patmos for its natural beauty and seclusion, the island is also famous for being the location where St. John penned the Book of Revelations. Small ships will dock in the port town of Skala, while large ships will anchor offshore and tender guests to Skala.

Top Things to Do in Patmos:

  • stroll the narrow lanes of Chora
  • visit the Grotto of Revelation
  • relax on Agriolivadi Beach
  • visit the museum in St. John’s Monastery

Located near Mykonos, Delos is a miniscule island in the Cyclades archipelago. It is one of the most important mythological, historical, and archaeological sites in Greece and the excavations on the island are among the most extensive in the Mediterranean.

The island's ruins encompass Doric temples, markets, an amphitheatre, houses with mosaics and the iconic Terrace of the Lions statues.

Many of the artifacts found are on display at the Archaeological Museum of Delos and the National Archaeological Museum of Athens.

Mykonos, a jewel in the Aegean Sea, is renowned for its vibrant nightlife and iconic white-washed buildings. Begin your day in Mykonos Town, or Chora, where the maze-like streets are filled with boutique shops, charming cafes, and art galleries. The town's famous windmills, a symbol of the island, offer a perfect photo opportunity and a glimpse into the island's history.

In the afternoon, relax on one of the island's beautiful beaches, such as Platis Gialos or Paradise Beach, known for their golden sands and clear waters. For a unique cultural experience, visit the Archaeological Museum of Mykonos, showcasing artifacts from the island's rich past. End your visit with a meal at a waterfront taverna, enjoying local dishes like moussaka and fresh seafood.

Part of the Cyclades archipelago, Paros is a radiant island boasting villages of whitewashed houses set off by azure doors and shutters. Along the quays of Parikia, its main town, you’ll see Byzantine churches and neoclassical buildings. Ships will dock or anchor offshore in Parikia.

Top Things to Do on Paros:

  • visit the seaside village of Naoussa
  • trek down the famed Byzantine Road
  • explore the untouched town of Lefkes
  • see the marble quarries of Marathi
  • relax on Chrissi Akti Beach

Syros, the capital of the Cyclades, is a gem in the Aegean Sea, captivating visitors with its blend of traditional Greek culture and neoclassical beauty. The island's capital, Ermoupoli, is a visual feast, with its striking town hall and Apollo Theater, often likened to a miniature La Scala.

Venturing beyond Ermoupoli, travelers find tranquil beaches like Galissas and Finikas, perfect for unwinding after a morning of exploration. The island's culinary scene is a delight, with local specialties such as loukoumi - small cubes made of a mixture of sugar, water and starch that are offered in a number of scents and flavours and the famous halvadopita (nougat pie), offering a taste of Syros' rich cultural tapestry.

If you've got time to explore the rich heritage of Athens, begin at the Acropolis, where the Parthenon offers breathtaking views of the city. Nearby, the Plaka district's narrow streets are filled with charming shops and tavernas, perfect for leisurely exploring. Visit the Ancient Agora to walk in the footsteps of Socrates. For a modern twist, the National Archaeological Museum houses treasures spanning millennia. Wrap up your day with a sunset stroll up Lycabettus Hill, providing panoramic vistas of this timeless city.

I’m a Ponant fan! 2 , ACT, Australia, Apr 2024
Loved everything about our Ponant cruise. Excursions were well organised and having a Ponant crew member as support was a big plus. Restaurant staff were charming and service was impeccable. Quizzes, dance lessons and shows were a lot of fun. We specifically loved the ambience of a small ship. So great, even my teenage granddaughter had the best read more time and never bored. Highly recommended!
