Itinerary

You've arrived in Adelaide – it's yours to explore. Spend the day at leisure before checking in to your accommodation. Stay: The Playford Adelaide – MGallery (3 Nights)

Explore Adelaide at your own pace today or if you'd like to extend your gourmet experience by visiting another wine-growing region, McLaren Vale is the perfect option. (B)

  • McLaren Vale Winery Experience ($225 per person)
A tour to McLaren Vale along the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula includes four cellar door experiences and a delicious restaurant lunch. The region is best known for its Shiraz, but expert vignerons will explain why Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay grapes also thrive in this unique microclimate.

Today, delight your senses with boutique wine and food touring to the historic Northern Barossa, with its 80 cellar doors. You'll even visit one of the oldest vineyards in the world, where Shiraz vines were planted in 1843. Enjoy running commentary from your driver as you make your way towards the fabulous Barossa Valley Region. You will be guided though some of the best wines South Australia has to offer.

Tours are small groups up to eight people only, to ensure a relaxed and unhurried day. Whether you prefer red or white, there will be something to tantalise and delight with tastings at three wineries throughout the day and a delicious lunch with an accompanying glass of wine included in your tour. (B/L)

Check out of your accommodation this morning and take in any last minute sights before transferring to Adelaide Parklands Terminal. Start your journey with a welcome dinner before joining the Indian Pacific, where you can settle into your cabin or mingle with fellow travellers in the Outback Explorer Lounge. Stay: Indian Pacific (2 Nights) (B/D)

Today is all about those amazing outback views as you cross this famous stretch of the Australian interior, the ancient Nullarbor Plain, on the longest stretch of straight railway track in the world. En route, the Indian Pacific calls in to Cook, a once-bustling, now almost-ghost town that was originally built as a support town for the railway. Travelling further west, the next stop is at Rawlinna on the fringe of Australia's largest sheep station for a signature dinner under a thousand stars (seasonal). (B/L/D)

Admire the delightful undulations of the Avon Valley and enjoy a final breakfast on board as the final stage of your transcontinental crossing unfolds, heading into Perth. Transfer to your accommodation, where your Perth discovery begins. Stay: Quay Perth (3 Nights) (B)

Make your way to Barrack Street Jetty and board Rottnest Express bound for Rottnest Island, 22km offshore. A 90-minute air-conditioned bus tour around ‘Rotto' takes you to some spectacular locations, including Wadjemup Lighthouse and the boardwalk lookout at the rugged west end. Feast on a delicious lunch before exploring the island at your leisure – make sure you meet a quokka. Return to Perth by ferry in the afternoon. (B/L)

It might be the largest state in Australia, but Western Australia's capital city features a conveniently compact centre, packed with things to see and do. Enjoy your day at leisure in Perth visiting Kings Park, Barrack Square or some of the many museums and galleries. (B)

After breakfast, check out of your accommodation. This signals the end of your epic journey across half of Australia. (B)
