You will need to contact the Embassy (Consular Services) of each country on your sailing itinerary for specific visa requirements, information, forms and fees for your nationality. More information can be found here.

What about inoculations and general health?

All guests must ensure that they are medically and physically fit for travel. In many cases inoculations are recommended but in some circumstances, they are required. Silversea recommend that you check with your GP for guidance.

Do I need to purchase travel insurance?

Yes. It is highly recommended all guests take out appropriate travel insurance policies once a reservation has been made. If your cruise itinerary includes New Caledonia, you may be refused entry to the port without Travel Insurance, as local government regulation now requires it for all visitors.

Please note Australian Medicare, New Zealand ACC and private health insurance will not cover you for any medical costs or emergency evacuations on board, even on domestic cruises. Insurance policies may also protect your possessions on board; provide cancellation cover if certain circumstances cause you to miss the cruise or a pre-paid tour; and provide other forms of protection. It is your responsibility to select the most appropriate policy from an insurance provider.

Can I cruise with Silversea if I am pregnant?

Pregnant guests are welcome but cannot be entering, or have entered, the 24th week of pregnancy on the first day of their planned cruise or cruise tour. Guests will be required to fill out a Public Health Questionnaire at the pier attesting they have not entered the 24th week. Please inform your Global Journeys Cruise Advisor.

What should I pack to wear on board?

Shipboard attire ranges from casual to formal. Casual wear is appropriate for daytime aboard ship or ashore and consists of standard sports outfits as worn at five-star resorts. Shoes should be flat or low heeled for deck activities. Evening attire falls into three categories: casual, informal and formal.

On casual evenings, pants, blouses, skirts and casual dresses for ladies; open-neck shirts and slacks for gentlemen are appropriate.

On informal evenings, ladies usually wear dresses or pantsuits; gentlemen wear jackets (tie optional).

Appropriate formal evening wear for ladies is an evening gown or cocktail dress; gentlemen wear tuxedos, dinner jackets or dark suits. A tie is required.

On formal nights, guests may dine in La Terrazza and choose to dress informal; dresses or pantsuits for ladies, jackets for gentlemen (tie optional). This option also applies to Seishin and Stars on board Silver Spirit. Dining at The Grill is optional casual all nights.

Following dinner, all guests are free to take advantage of any or all public spaces, however, a jacket is required.

How many formal nights will there be?

Sailings of 9 days or less typically feature 1 formal night, while longer voyages usually have 2-3 formal nights. Details will be provided in your final cruise documents. Please note: On 7 day sailings in the Baltic, Mediterranean and Alaska, formal night is always optional; guests may choose to dress informally, a jacket is required for gentlemen.

Does Silversea offer tuxedo rental service?

No, however the on board Boutique has a limited selection of formal wear attire for purchase.

What should I pack for going ashore?

Since there is so much to see and do while exploring the sights, you will find that the most important item to pack in your cruise luggage is a pair of comfortable, sturdy shoes. This is particularly important for shoreside explorations where the ground is often uneven and where extensive walking or climbing may be required. Casual attire is always appropriate when ashore.

Clothing that can be layered to accommodate different temperatures is most versatile and comfortable. Appropriate dress should be worn on shore excursions that visit a mosque, cathedral or monastery. Guests wearing shorts or skirts above the knee or women with bare shoulders may not be permitted to enter.

What other items do I need to consider?

You should pack an appropriate supply of essential items in your cruise luggage, including film and batteries for your camera, as well as over the counter medications and prescription drugs.

Can I pack my prescription medication?

It is important that you bring sufficient supply of any prescription medicine you may need. Prescriptions cannot be refilled on board, and usually cannot be refilled overseas. To prevent delays in clearing Customs, it is also a good idea to travel with a doctor’s letter explaining that your prescription medication is required for your continued health. It is also recommended that the medicine remain in its original container with the original pharmacy label intact.

What currency is used on the ship?

Any and all on board payments to Silversea shall be made in US dollars. All charges for services provided and products purchased on board the ship must be paid for by cash (US dollars), traveller’s cheque (US dollars) or credit card (VISA, MasterCard or American Express) at the end of each voyage segment and before your final disembarkation from the ship. A 2% transaction fee will be charged for all cash advances. Foreign transaction fees are possible.

What amenities are in my suite?

All suites include a compact refrigerator and bar setup stocked with your preferred selection of complimentary beverages, luxury European or hypoallergenic bath amenities, a choice of nine pillow types, plush robes and slippers, personalised stationery, an umbrella, flat-screen TVs with complimentary movies, and an alarm clock with iPod docking station.

Will I need an adapter for electrical appliances?

For your convenience, 110-volt (American current) and 220-volt (European current) outlets are provided in your suite, accommodating small appliances without the use of adapters or electric converters. A hair dryer is provided in each suite.

Is there a safe in my suite?

Every Silversea suite is equipped with a personal safe, located inside your walk-in wardrobe. Valuables kept in your suite are your responsibility.

Is there a laundry or valet service?

Complete valet services, including laundry, pressing and dry cleaning, are available at an additional charge and may be arranged through your butler. Customary charges will apply. A self-service launderette offers washing machines, dryers, irons and laundry supplies, allowing you to limit the amount of cruise luggage needed, especially for longer voyages.

Are there religious services on board?

Non-denominational services are held aboard ship on Sundays. Catholic, Protestant and/or Jewish clergy will be on board during select holidays, when possible.

What medical services are on board?

Each Silversea ship is equipped with a Medical Centre, which is customarily staffed by a doctor and nurse on 24-hour call when at sea. When docked, supplementary emergency care may also be obtained through local medical facilities. Guests may be charged for medical services and for medications used for their medical treatment.

Is there internet access?

All guests are granted free, unlimited standard Wi-Fi for 1 device at the time. Guests sailing in Medallion, Silver, Royal, Grand or Owner’s suites will receive unlimited premium Internet access aboard for up to 2 devices at a time. To access the streaming newspapers, guests should download the Press Reader app on either the Apple App Store or Google Play store.

Can I make phone calls from the ship?

On board, you may make and receive phone calls, text messages and other select data services on your own mobile phone or PDA device and you will be billed by your home mobile phone provider. Calls or messages will appear as roaming charges on your bill. Talk to your provider Before You Depart home for options.

Silver Cloud is also equipped with a phone system that allows guests to make direct-dial calls from their suite whilst at sea. Calls will be billed to the guest’s on board account at the current rate, charged in USD.

May I reserve a pair of boots for use on board prior to embarkation?

While the ship does carry a supply of unisex “Wellington” style rubber gumboots, it is not guaranteed that a sufficient quantity or all sizes would be available. It is recommended that Silversea Expeditions guests bring their own boots for proper size and fit.

What shore excursions are offered on Silversea Expeditions voyages?

From nature hikes and Zodiac cruises to museum tours and visits to botanical gardens, Silversea Expeditions tours vary based on the destination but typically offer a mix of outdoor adventure, local culture and nature.

Are shore excursions included?

Every Silversea Expeditions voyage offers complimentary shore excursions led by the Expedition Team. On select itineraries, optional excursions are available for purchase.

Are children allowed on Silversea Expeditions vessels?

Silversea cannot accommodate infants under the age of one (1) year on board Silver Explorer and Silver Cloud, and is unable to accommodate children less than five (5) years of age on Silver Galapagos. For Silver Explorer and Silver Cloud no children under the age of five (5) years will be allowed on board the Zodiacs. Children under the age of five (5) years will be unable to participate in any expedition excursions or embarkations that require the use of a Zodiac.

As Silversea does not provide babysitting services, an adult family member will be required to remain on board Silver Explorer with their child(ren) during Zodiac excursions.

Will we see and wildlife?

Wildlife sightings are common; however, they cannot be guaranteed. Day-by-Day highlights describe animals and birds typically seen on the select itinerary.
