I had travelled to Nepal before but this trip was a total revelation, showing us the hidden side of the destination and opening up unexplored avenues that we would never have discovered on our own. The Panauti home stay and Neydo monastery stay were definite highlights that will stay with me forever. Thank you Crooked Compass, I can't wait for my next adventure with you.
It's not often I get to experience the kind of things I have over the last 10 days. Yeah, I travel and love every second of it but sometimes you get really lucky and the journey changes you. I've just returned from Nepal and had the most amazing time thanks to a few special people but the person I really want to thank is Lisa Pagotto-Feruglio. Thanks again for the opportunities you've given me - from being blessed by monks, bathing elephants, living with the Panauti locals and feeling like apart of their families and exploring the country the way it should be done!
I just completed the Cultures and Craters tour in Tanzania. It was the most amazing experience. We went into the lives of some of the local tribes of the Kilimanjaro region and got to interact with them using a translator. We got to ask questions and also answer their questions about our lives. The contrast of the tribes is also fascinating being so read more different but from the same region. To top it all off a visit to the Ngorongoro Crater where we saw lions, elephants, buffalo, gazelle, hippos, zebras and so many birds. We even spotted a giraffe on the outer rim! I would recommend this tour and Crooked Compass as a company to anyone wanting to take a different view of Africa.
We have recently had 12 days in India with a tour organised by Crooked Compass, prior to a family wedding. This was the best thing we could have done to enjoy travelling in such a foreign country. The itinerary included everything we wished for, like walking the streets of old Delhi with Salaam Balaak street kids, visiting Ladli in Jaipur who provide read more vocational training to orphans and street kids, spending time with elephants and at a sloth bear sanctuary. Our driver was amazing and became a friend, the tour guides were very knowledgeable and able to share their passion for their cities with us. Loved the colours and the crazy traffic, the history and the people. A highly recommendable experience.
I have just returned from Tanzania after experiencing the most amazing Culture and Craters tour with Lisa from Crooked Compass. It was one of the most unique and fabulous tours I have ever had the privilege of being a part of. I loved visiting places where there were no other tourists and having the opportunity to see locals in their daily life and having the opportunity to learn from them. Meditating while monks chanted was a powerful experience.
Our driver was respectful, friendly and helpful. He also kept an eye out for our general well being in the heat. The site guides he chose for us were all excellent. Our night in the desert was wonderful and our Bedouin driver and guide was thoughtful and very proud to share his knowledge of the desert landscape. Our accommodations were all very acceptable read more and well located. Overall it was an excellent tour. Based on my experience in Jordan, October 2018, I definitely can recommend Crooked Compass.
Trekking through the Svaneti region and taking in the majestic glaciers and mountain ranges covered in delicate wildflowers, and ending in the UNESCO World Heritage village of Ushguli, only to be met by ancient stone watch towers and stunning views. Staying with local families and seeing how they have lived for thousands of years... An amazing experience read more to be treasured always.
The trip was above and beyond my expectations. I was impressed with not only the professionalism in the organisation of the tour but also when things didn't quite go to plan how they were handled. The personal relationships of the guide with the local people made a huge difference to our amazing experience and I doubt very much that we would have had read more this with any other travel group. Thanks to Crooked Compass and her team in Mongolia for taking us down a 'Different Path'.

Every day I was blown away with new scenery and experiences not expected. Great company, lots of laughs, special care and constant assistance from guides and drivers. Excellent accommodation and food - I would do it all again in a heartbeat. VERY happy to promote Mongolia as a 'must see' country with wonderful hospitality and delightful and very different read more experiences every day. Now my friends understand that it was NOT a crazy idea to go travelling on my own to a remote and foreign country. Our photos tell the whole story.
More beautiful than I could have ever imagined, and worth every step of the four day trek through the wild Andean mountains and 5,300m passes to get there. I've never been as challenged physically or mentally, but I've also never been somewhere so stunning in its natural beauty, so remote and so far off the beaten tourist path. We saw a grand total read more of five other trekkers during the five days we were there! Crooked Compass thank you for the adventure of a lifetime, the Ausangate trek and your Wild Peru itinerary has moved me and changed me in ways I could never have predicted.
Trip full with unique experiences, local guides who were all wonderful. We immersed into authentic life. Highly recommend travelling with Crooked Compass to follow a different path.

Our Iran experience was wonderful. Not knowing what to expect and thinking that it may be a cultural stretch for us, we were blown away by the culture, history, food, cleanliness of all cities (including public toilets), safety but especially the friendly and hospitable people that the Iranian people are. Never once did we hear anyone complain or criticize read more another country, religion or people in general. My view of that part of the world, littered by media misinformation, has changed 180 degrees and I cannot recommend Iran enough for anyone wishing to visit. Our guide, Davood Dehghani, is a wonderful ambassador for his country and a top bloke as well. Our highlight was spending the night with the Lorish nomads in Deh dasht. Simply wonderful people, that we were lucky enough to spend some time with...Recommend this totally and the country side around the area and on the way there was simply beautiful.
Everything was amazing - Sooo perfect. I couldn't choose one highlight. Our guides were so fantastic - they were courteous, friendly, professional, helpful and full of local knowledge? It's clear they really love their jobs. They made the sites even more amazing. Everything was planned so well. Our guides were always on time and so professional and read more helpful. This was the MOST AMAZING holiday EVER. I have recommended you to people in our home town and abroad - I will to anyone who will listen actually. WONDERFUL. Thank you for making our holiday perfect.
