Itinerary

Departs: 18:00

If you're overnighting in Paris prior to your cruise, and depending on time and your transfer plans to Le Havre, consider a stop in Rouen en route - its half-timbered medieval core, Gothic cathedral, and Joan of Arc history offer a compelling pause without straying too far off course. Once in Le Havre, explore the UNESCO-listed post-war architecture by Auguste Perret or the MuMa museum’s Impressionist collection, both near the port and manageable before boarding your ship.

Port:Le Havre

Your cruise ship will be docked at Le Havre Cruise Terminal, which is close to the city center. A local shuttle service runs to and from the port into the city centre of Le Havre for a small fee. If you're staying in Paris, it's 200 km (124 miles) southeast of Le Havre - about 2.5–3 hours by train, coach, or private transfer.

Located on the Brittany Coast and built on a rock at the mouth of the River Rance, Saint-Malo's roots go back to before Roman times. Surrounded by tall granite walls, this fortified city was superbly rebuilt to its original style after 80% of it was destroyed in WWII. Small ships can dock at the this port, while large ships will anchor offshore.

Top Things to Do in Saint-Malo:

  • walk the beach to Fort National
  • visit the UNESCO listed Mont Saint-Michel
  • tour the medieval village of Dinan
  • stroll along the cities ramparts

Spend exceptional moments sailing aboard Le Commandant Charcot, the world’s first luxury polar exploration vessel and the first PC2-class polar cruise ship capable of sailing into the very heart of the ice, on seas and oceans which the frozen conditions render inaccessible to ordinary ships. Le Commandant Charcot is fitted with oceanographic and scientific equipment selected by a committee of experts.

Take advantage of the on-board lectures and opportunities for discussion with these specialists to learn more about the poles. Participate in furthering scientific research with PONANT and let us discover together what these fascinating destinations have yet to reveal to us.

During your journey at sea, make the most of the many services and activities on board. Treat yourself to a moment of relaxation in the spa or stay in shape in the fitness centre. Depending on the season, let yourself be tempted by the swimming pool or a spot of sunbathing.

This journey without a port of call will also be an opportunity to enjoy the conferences or shows proposed on board, depending on the activities offered, or to do some shopping in the boutique or to meet the Ponant photographers in their dedicated space. As for lovers of the open sea, they will be able to visit the ship’s upper deck to admire the spectacle of the waves and perhaps be lucky enough to observe marine species. A truly enchanted interlude, combining comfort, rest and entertainment.

Follow in the footsteps of Jules Poret de Blosseville, a French explorer and sailor. In 1833 he set off to discover this isolated and unexplored part of eastern Greenland and gave French names to various sites on the coast. The adventure had an unfortunate outcome, as the crew were never found.

This uninhabited territory, which now bears his name, lies to the south of Scoresby Sund. Surrounded by ice, icebergs and pieces of pack ice, Blosseville Coast is one of these wild and hard-to-reach places that very few people are lucky enough to explore.

Ittoqqortoormiit is one of the remotest inhabited places in the world. It is bordered to the south by the vast Greenland National Park, which, at 18,000km, is the largest national park in the world. To the northwest is the world’s deepest multi-branched fjord system, Scoresby Sound.

Covered with ice and snow for nine months of the year, you will be able to discover the ancestral way of life of the last hunters of the polar region. As soon as the thickness of the ice floe allows, they set out on the trail of walruses, seals, narwhals, musk ox and polar bears, travelling by traditional dog sleds.

Humpback and Minke whales play and feed in the waters around the impressive island of Jan Mayen with its towering ebony peaks and broad black lava beaches. The landscape is dominated to the north by Mt. Beerenberg, an active volcano covered in glacial ice that last erupted in 1985.

With permission from the Norwegian authorities, a landing is possible at this rarely visited outpost. Visitors may walk to the research and weather station, or beyond, for birds-eye views of the meteorological station and the long black sandy eastern shore of the island.
