Overview
Elegant Vienna provides a great point of contrast to the rest of this exceptional itinerary. Pick up the strains of a melody you recognise as you walk the quaint cobblestone streets of Vienna. Visit the Danube Delta, offering some of the region’s most beautiful backdrops. Spend one night in Bucharest. This trip includes two nights each in Ljubljana and Zagreb.
Itinerary
Welcome to Zagreb. Located on the southern slopes of the Medvednica Mountains and on the banks of the Sava River, Zagreb is Croatia’s largest city and it beautifully encompasses its traditional European history with its modern function as the economical and governmental hub of the country.
This morning your local guide will take you on a journey of discovery through the city of Zagreb, see the Cathedral, one of the most famous landmarks of the city and also the tallest building in Croatia. The cathedral has two spires that can be seen from any point in the city. You will also pass through the Stone Gate, the entrance to the upper town and Zagreb’s medieval centre as well as Ban Jelacic Square in the cities more modern district.
After some free time you will venture to the sublimely beautiful World Heritage-listed Plitvice National park. Wander along meandering pathway to views a series of emerald green lakes, stepped and linked by impressive waterfalls. (B)
Today we cross the border and journey to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. Although small in size and population this city doesn’t lack charm. With its many colourful buildings such as the Franciscan Church, lively town squares and baroque architecture, Ljubljana is one of the hidden gems of this region. Your local guide will immerse you in a discovery of the city sitting on the Ljubljanica River. Explore the treasures such as the Opera House, National Museum, Franciscan Church and St. Nicholas Cathedral. (B/D)
This morning journey to Bled, the small town surrounded by towering Alps and overlooking the glacial lake of the same name. Step back in time and take a traditional Pletna boat to the beautiful island sitting in the middle of Lake Bled. Visit the historic Church of St. Mary with its famous wishing well where you can ring the bell for good luck. (B)
After breakfast this morning your journey continues as you are transferred to your Scenic Space-Ship where you will receive a warm welcome from your friendly crew. (B/D)

Witness a traditional Puszta horse show. Be greeted by the horsemen of the Puszta region where this type of activity has been practised for centuries. (B/L/D)
Freechoice: Discover the city of Pécs, or explore the village of Villány. Alternatively, tour Zsolnay Porcelain Museum. (B/L/D)
Freechoice: Be guided through the town of Osijek on foot, bike or boat. Later, join a local family for a hearty home-cooked meal and the chance to discover what everyday life is really like in Croatia. (B/L/D)

Alternatively, take a cycling tour along the river, or see another side of Belgrade as you kayak on the Danube. This morning disembark your Scenic Space-Ship and travel to Bucharest for an overnight stay. (B/L/D)

We had a fantastic time on our holiday. The extension at the beginning showed us some different countries and experiences and we enjoyed the scenery, excursions and the small group. Lake Bled was the highlight for me, the little boat to the island and costing the little church and ringing the bells was fun. The waterfalls were amazing but very busy ...read more at the big falls and not at all suitable for people with walking difficulties. As we walked further into the park the crowds were less and I enjoyed the smaller falls more, it was a lovely hike with amazing views. We were well looked after.
The first week and half of the river Cruise was really good, lots of amazing old fortresses, churches, cities to explore. Really enjoyed the enrich events especially the choir in St Sava. The Unfortunately the Danube ran out of water and we spent 3 days in a little Bulgarian port with some not so exciting day trips, we made the most of everything and enjoyed them but it was a bit disappointing. There we many elderly/not so fit people on board who struggled with the steep gang plank caused by the low water levels and couldn’t keep up with the walking on the tours. Crew and food was amazing, so much food and they would make you just about anything you wanted. Bar staff were constantly offering drinks.
We had the cheapest cabin down the bottom, it was fine. We only slept and showered there as you can see so much more from the decks or lounge areas. The seating in the lounge and dining room makes you mingle with other passengers and we made lots of friends and had lots of laughs as we shared photos and stories.
