Itinerary

Welcome to Reykjavík where you board Scenic Eclipse to start your discovery of the world’s largest island – Greenland. (D)

Weather depending, today we visit the jewel of the Westfjords. Stand back and admire the cascading bridal veil, and discover why it was nicknamed ‘the thunder’. Made up of seven waterfalls, it is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. (B/L/D)

Cruise from Iceland across the Denmark Strait to the east coast of Greenland. The Discovery Team will enthral you with their knowledge and passion for this region. From your suite's verandah, scan the horizon through your included binoculars to look for whales. (B/L/D)

Over the coming days, explore Greenland's east coast, the fjords of Skjoldungen and Prins Christian Sund. Carving a breathtaking, naturally-formed path separating the mainland from the islands of Cape Farewell, Prins Christianssund is one of Greenland's most scenic waterways. Over a hundred kilometres in length, and flanked by magnificent glaciers and granite cliffs, this narrow passage is only accessible during summer, when the largest ice blockades melt away. Scenic Eclipse brings you close to the towering glaciers, huge icebergs and imposing peaks for unmissable photo opportunities. Discovery: Weather depending, partake in Scenic Discovery excursions by Zodiac, kayak and on nature walks. Discover majestic scenery, tundra landscapes, and native wildlife and marine life. (B/L/D)

Continue cruising the coast of Greenland. Due to the extraordinary nature of the region, the sailing and expedition schedule is flexible. Your experienced Captain and Discovery Leader will use their expertise to design this section of your voyage from day to day. (B/L/D)

The most striking agricultural town located on the edge of a fjord, Narsaq is known for its Greenlandic 'cowboys', lush farmlands and intriguing Norse history. In the 1960s, a long house was unearthed and is believed to be the very first place Eric the Red settled. Discover this quaint town and its close connection to the Mother Nature and visit the Narsaq Museum to learn about Norse history. Freechoice: Walk around the town or Narsaq, and see the mixture of modern living and ancient traditions, or taste some Greenlandic specialties at the Hotel Narsaq. Discovery: Take a Scenic Discovery excursion by Zodiac or kayak or take a hiking tour. (B/L/D)

Nuuk means ‘majestic fjord views’ in Greenlandic. The capital and largest city in Greenland, Nuuk has been inhabited by many settlers over the centuries, but the present town was only established in 1728. A guided tour through the picturesque Old Harbour reveals history and traditions that still remain strong. Freechoice: Explore Nuuk by bus or on a guided walking tour or meet a local family and hear stories of past and present. Choose to taste some Greenlandic specialties or try the local Greenlandic beer at Greenland’s largest microbrewery. (B/L/D)

Meander through the Evighed Fjord or “Eternity Fjord”, listening as chunks from the ice cap break away and collapse into the water. Gaze up at the highest mountains in West Greenland, watching as the mist swirls around them. (B/L/D)

Spectacular days await as you cruise Disko Bay. Ilulissat is named from the Inuit word for ‘iceberg’. Formerly called Jakobshavn, the town is best known for large number of icebergs breaking away from the nearby Ilulissat Icefjord, into which one of the world’s fastest moving and most active glaciers calves 46 cubic kilometres of ice annually. Listen for the rumbling sounds in the distance of icebergs calving from the Sermeq Kujalleq Glacier. Discovery: Scenic Discovery excursions by Zodiac, kayak or go onshore for landings. (B/L/D)

Enjoy your last day relaxing on Scenic Eclipse. With so many choices on board you will be surprised how quickly time passes. Choose one of the daily activities, an entertaining discussion in the theatre, or make time for yourself in the Senses Spa. This evening, cruise through the Kangerlussuaq Fjord, the longest fjord in Greenland. Keep a look out for herds of musk oxen, reindeer, as well as arctic hares and polar foxes. (B/L/D)

Your cruise ends this morning in Kangerlussuaq as you bid farewell to the crew and fly to Copenhagen. rom its humble origins as a fishing village to its heyday as the glittering capital of the Danish Empire, to its current position as one of the world’s premier design capitals, the stories and characters of Copenhagen’s history can be discovered in its sumptuous palaces, copper-roofed town houses and atmospheric cobbled squares. Enjoy a three night stay. (B)

Discover the wonderful Rosenborg Castle, an elegant Renaissance castle built as a country summerhouse in 1606. Rosenborg Castle features 400 years of magnificence, royal art treasures and the Crown Jewels and Royal Regalia. You will also get to see the delightful courtyard of Amalienborg Palace, home to Princess Mary and the Danish Royal Family. Raise your glass this evening, and toast the end of a wonderful journey. Enrich: Enjoy an exclusive lunch at d’Angleterre’s. (B/L/D)

Freechoice: Take an iconic cruise and see the city’s many attractions including Christiansborg Palace, the impressive Black Diamond Library, and the Little Mermaid while gliding along the canals. Alternatively, visit Tivoli Gardens, including priority access. (B)

Transfer to the airport for your flight to the trendy Swedish capital, Stockholm. Built on 14 islands connected by 57 bridges and looking proudly out onto the Baltic Sea, Stockholm is said to be one of the most beautiful capital cities in the world. The graceful architecture, the greenery, the fresh air and the proximity to the water are distinctive traits of this city. Spend the next two nights at your Special Stay hotel. Enrich: Enhance your art knowledge with an art specialist at the Munch Museum. Explore one of the most comprehensive one-man museums in the world, home to over half of Munch’s paintings, including ‘The Scream’. (B)

Your local guide will unveil the city’s most treasured hotspots during a city tour. You will discover the City Hall with its spire featuring the golden Three Crowns, one of Sweden’s most famous buildings; you will also see the Riddarholm Church and the Royal Palace. Then, visit the Vasa Ship Museum located on the island of Djurgården, where the 17th century warship ‘Vasa’ is now housed after it tragically capsized and sank on its inaugural voyage in 1628. This evening, enjoy a highlight dinner at Fem Sma Hus, a mixture of Swedish cuisine with a French touch, in a stunning historical setting. (B/D)

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Oslo, the capital of Norway. Your wondrous journey begins with a two night Special Stay. Surrounded by forests and fjords, the Norwegian capital is a modern and diverse city. (B)

From the 8th to the 11th century, the Vikings started their journey across Europe, looking for land and trade. Discover their amazing history during your visit to the Bygdoy Peninsula, home to three famous museums honouring the rich nautical heritage of the Norse race and its warrior ancestors. Wander the Viking Ship Museum, the Kon-Tiki Museum and the Fram Polar Ship. Fram is the strongest wooden ship ever built and still holds the records for sailing farthest north and farthest south. You will be able to step on board the ship and see how the crew managed to survive in the coldest and most dangerous places on earth – the Arctic and the Antarctic. Enrich: Immerse yourself in the architecture, stage technology, opera and ballet at Oslo’s Opera House during a private backstage tour with a specialist guide. Breathe in the beautiful views from the rooftop while enjoying a glass of wine. (B/D)
