Itinerary

Your national park adventure begins with a two-night stay at Le Germain Calgary. Enjoy a welcome dinner this evening. (D)

Discover one of the world’s richest dinosaur fossil fields on a guided tour of this intriguing park. (B)

Journey to the World Heritage-listed Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, the site of one of the most primitive yet sophisticated hunting techniques ever devised. En route to Waterton Lakes National Park, stop at a Hutterite Colony for lunch. Visit Frank Slide Interpretive Centre which tells the story of Canada’s deadliest rockslide and provides a sensitive insight into life in the coal mining town. Overnight stay at The Bayshore Inn. Enjoy a morning at leisure before cruising through International Peace Park on the Canadian and American border. Later, enter World Heritage-listed Glacier National Park stopping at Many Glacier. Two night stay at Grouse Mountain Lodge or similar. (B/D)

This national park is home to glacial carved valleys, grizzly bears and golden eagles. Keep an eye out for these wondrous creatures as you tour the region along the scenic routes. Enrich: Set out on a memorable exploration of Glacier National Park led by a guide from the local Blackfeet Tribe. The national park and its surrounds are the ancestral home of the tribe, who refer to this land as the ‘Backbone of the World’. Throughout the tour, your guide will provide a fascinating insight into Blackfeet tribal history, culture and lifestyle as well as the history of the park itself. (B)

The Sculpture in the Wild International Sculpture Park celebrates the rich environmental, industrial and cultural heritage of the Blackfoot Valley. Delight in Helena’s gold rush history on a walking tour. Stay at the Helena Great Northern Hotel. (B)

Travel to Yellowstone, the world’s first national park and one of the most wondrous places on earth. Enjoy a two-night stay at the Three Bear Lodge in West Yellowstone. (B/D)

Discover the unique landscapes of Yellowstone on a guided tour and be awed by Old Faithful, the famous geyser that erupts with steaming columns of water creating a spectacular display. (B)

Explore Grand Teton National Park, virtually unchanged since prehistoric times. Stay in Jackson Hole at the SpringHill Suites or similar. (B/D)

On arrival in Salt Lake City visit the Temple Square Visitor Centre and Beehive House, where Brigham Young, the leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints (the Mormons) lived with his 19 wives and 56 children. Overnight stay at the Hilton Salt Lake City hotel. (B)

Travel to Bryce Canyon and learn about the forces that create the incredible rock formations known as ‘hoodoos’. Stay at the Bryce Canyon Grand Hotel. (B/D)

Follow the paths where ancient native people and pioneers walked in Zion National Park. Enjoy a picnic lunch while gazing up at massive sandstone cliffs with cream, pink and red hues. In the evening, enjoy a dinner cruise down Lake Powell to marvel at the geological wonders. Stay at Lake Powell Resort in a marina view or lakeview rooms for the next two nights. (B/L/D)

With Lake Powell and the Colorado River on its doorstep, Page is located at the heart of unparalleled outdoor beauty. Morning guided hike to the iconic Horseshoe Bend. Freechoice: Take a guided tour to the Upper Antelope Canyon or enjoy a scenic flight above Lake Powell. Afternoon visit to the Carl Hayden Visitor Centre and tour of the Glen Canyon Dam. (B)

Carved over millions of years by the Colorado River, the Grand Canyon stretches 446 kilometres long and 29 kilometres wide. For the next two nights, stay at Yavapai East Lodge within the Grand Canyon National Park. Enrich: As you stand before the Grand Canyon National Park, it’s difficult to fathom its sheer enormity. Tonight, you’ll get to view this spectacular phenomenon as you dine on the rim, taking in the layered bands of colourful rock that reveal millions of years of geological history. (B/D)

Freechoice: Ride along the rim of the Grand Canyon by mule or take a guided hike of the canyon. Another option is an exhilarating helicopter flight over the canyon. (B)

Located in the Painted Desert, Tuba City is a great base for exploring both ancient and contemporary Hopi and Navajo cultures. Visit the Explore Navajo Interactive Museum to get an in-depth look at the Navajo people’s journey, as well as their social and historical contributions. Steps away is the Navajo Code Talkers Museum, which honours the Navajo code talkers who served with the U.S. Marines in the Pacific theatre during World War II. Overnight at the Moenkopi Legacy Inn & Suites located at the western gateway to Hopi tribal lands. (B)

Enrich: Explore the Hopi Reservation with a member of the Hopi tribe, widely considered to be the oldest of the native people living within North America and made up of 34 living clans spread among 12 Hopi villages. In the afternoon travel to Monument Valley. Enrich: Witness the sunset over the Monument Valley’s iconic towering red sandstone buttes. Savour the moment and witness the magic of the changing colours on the famous rock formations as the sun sets. Stay at the View Hotel, a Navajo owned business located within the Navajo Nation and the Navajo Tribal Park at Monument Valley. (B/D)

Continue to Arches National Park, home to more than 2,000 natural sandstone arches. Spend two nights at the Homewood Suites Moab or similar. (B/D)

Visit Canyonlands National Park and marvel at the colourful canyons, tablelands, buttes, arches and spires carved by the Colorado River. Dead Horse Point is located 2,000 feet above the Colorado River, on the edge of Canyonlands National Park. The vista will afford you outstanding views of the river and surrounding canyon country. Freechoice: Go rafting down the Colorado River, enjoy a jeeptour of the Canyonlands National Park or take a boat tour on a stretch of calm waters of the Colorado River. (B)

Journey through two days of extraordinary landscapes between Moab and Denver, on board the legendary Rocky Mountaineer train. After boarding the train early in the afternoon, enjoy SilverLeaf Plus service while taking in the scenic views of Mount Garfield and stunning red rock formations lining the cliffs in Ruby Canyon. Stay overnight at a Glenwood Springs hotel as assigned by Rocky Mountaineer. (B/D)

Enjoy breakfast while watching the morning light bounce off the rugged canyons along the Colorado River from the wide, glass train windows. Celebrate crossing the Continental Divide with a sparkling wine toast, while cutting through 10 kilometres of mountain in Moffatt Tunnel. During your SilverLeaf Plus service lunch, take in the views of picturesque Byers Canyon and Gore Canyon.
