1 Arrive Christchurch
Welcome to New Zealand! A Kirra Tours representative will greet you at the airport with transport waiting to take you to your hotel. Stay: Distinction Hotel (D)
2 Christchurch - Lake Tekapo
Today begins with a unique experience combining history and sightseeing. Enjoy a journey in style through the changing face of Christchurch’s city centre on-board a beautifully restored heritage tram. We then visit the International Antarctic Centre before crossing the Canterbury Plains, New Zealand’s largest area of flat land, lying between the mighty Southern Alps and the Pacific Ocean. Its patchwork of agricultural activity ranges from grazing grass and wheat to herbs and sunflowers. View the tiny Church of the Good Shepherd and the Collie Dog Memorial overlooking Lake Tekapo. There is time this afternoon for some optional alpine flightseeing over the world heritage national parks of Aoraki Mt Cook and Westland Tai Poutini (subject to weather conditions). Stay: Peppers Bluewater Resort (B/D)
3 Moeraki Boulders - Dunedin
Continue south and stop to view the Benmore Dam, one of the largest in the southern hemisphere. Travel down the Waitaki Valley to the Whitestone township of Oamaru, home to some of the best preserved heritage buildings in New Zealand. The town prospered through gold mining, quarrying and timber milling in the late 19th century and much of the wealth was spent on elegant stone buildings made from local limestone. Stop to view the mystical Moeraki Boulders before arriving at Dunedin, the Edinburgh of the South. Stay: Scenic Dunedin City Hotel (B/D)
4 Dunedin - Central Otago - Te Anau
Enjoy spectacular views across the Otago Peninsula as you travel to Larnach Castle. On your guided tour, learn about its tragic and mysterious history. Depart Dunedin and head inland, crossing rich farmlands to the agricultural towns of Gore and Lumsden, before arriving at the shores of Lake Te Anau, gateway to the Fiordland National Park. Stay Two Nights: Distinction Luxmore Hotel (B/D)
5 Spectacular Milford Sound Cruise
Journey into the Hollyford Valley before descending into the Cleddau Canyon. Drive through the Homer Tunnel into spectacular Milford Sound, the world renowned natural wonder dominated by Mitre Peak. Luxuriant rainforest clings to sheer rock walls and waterfalls tumble hundreds of metres to the sea below. Your vessel has purpose built observation decks and viewing lounges and as you cruise the entire length of the fiord, enjoy the onboard commentary that gives you detailed information on the region’s history, flora and fauna. View spectacular waterfalls, towering mountains, glaciers and rainforest and those with keen eyes may also see seals basking on the rocks and local pods of dolphins streaking through the Sound. (B/L/D)

Please Note: Optional overnight cruises on Milford Sound or Doubtful Sound are also available today subject to availability - ask us for details
6 Te Anau - Queenstown
Continue north to Kingston, then skirt around the shores of Lake Wakatipu to the picturesque village of Queenstown, regarded as New Zealand’s premier holiday destination. Enjoy some free time this afternoon before boarding the historic vintage steamship TSS Earnslaw for an evening cruise across the lake to Walter Peak High Country Farm. At the Colonel’s Homestead, savour a delicious gourmet barbecue dinner along with an entertaining farm demonstration. Stay Two Nights: Millenium Hotel (B/D)

8 Queenstown - Haast Pass - Franz Josef
This morning, we visit Arrowtown. Set beneath the rugged Crown Range, this historic village was once a haven for the gold prospectors of the 1860’s and features a fascinating collection of mining cottages with an atmosphere straight out of last century. Stop at Wanaka, a picture postcard resort on the lake’s edge with a spectacular mountain backdrop. “Tour guide / driver service needs big improvement”
- QLD, Australia Apr 2017 4 Helpful Votes

I went with my mum and sister for a Southern Panorama tour of New Zealand with Kirra. Overall experience was good but the driver / tour guide was the biggest let down. I had the unfortunate situation where my mum forgot one of her medication. You would have thought the tour guide driver would have compassion in trying to help me with finding a doctor or advising me where to go to look for help in his country. No! Instead of any of the above he meant to do he was mean and simply don't more

Reply from Kirra:
Thank you for your feedback following your South Island tour with Kirra. We were very disappointed to read your comments regarding the attitude of the Coach Captain who guided your tour. It would appear that the service he provided fell well short of both your and our expectations and for this we must apologise. Please be assured that this matter has been addressed directly with the Coach Captain concerned.

Unlike Asia & Europe where Tour Directors are the norm due to the various languages encountered whilst on tour, it is common practice in New Zealand for tours to be escorted by a Coach Captain only. Having said that, Kirra are introducing on-board Tour Concierges on our Classic Plus tour series in the 18/19 tour season who will work alongside our Coach Captains to ensure the smooth operation of our larger tour groups.

We recognise the importance of the driver guide to the overall enjoyment of our coach holidays and this is generally an area in which we excel. Please accept our apologies for the problems encountered in this instance. We hope that we may have the opportunity to prove ourselves to you once more should you choose to travel to New Zealand again in the future. Regards, The Kirra Management Team

“Lovely trip in NZ”
- VIC, Australia Feb 2017

NZ is a wonderful country, every day we saw beautiful landscape. The fellow travelers are nice people and the coach captain, Dennis, is great. We enjoy the trip so much, from the booking with Global Journeys till the end of the trip. (GJ: This itinerary has been amended in 2017)

“Amazing relaxing but thorough South Island of New Zealand tour.”
- QLD, Australia Dec 2016 4 Helpful Votes View Photo

From start to finish Global Journeys were extremely professional and efficient. All of our group were friendly, mixed races such as Australia, Wales, Germany, Singapore, England, India and America, ages 23 to about 70. Our bus driver/ tour director was very diligent ensuring we were all back on the coach after each stop. He was extremely informative about every aspect of the South Island of New Zealand. Throughout the trip he kept the coach clean inside and out. The meals were superb more

“Covered all the places I wanted to see”
- NSW, Australia Jan 2015 2 Helpful Votes

The first hotel we stayed at in Christchurch was under renovation and we were put into one of the old rooms where there was no air conditioning and it was very uncomfortable to sleep. We were placed in an updated room on the way back but it may be a good idea for Kirra to ensure that future travellers are put into a newer room so the trip doesn't start out with a bad experience. Other than that, it was an amazing experience and covered all the places I wanted to see. Thank you so much for organizing! more

We had one small problem with the coach, but the driver arranged for another and, we were able to get our coach back fixed the next day. Otherwise everything went really well.
