Itinerary

There is a lot to do in and around Reykjavik - should you wish to take advantage of the many optional activities, such as the Blue Lagoon thermal pools, we recommend booking a pre or post night. Hotel accommodation in Iceland is very limited and rooms/facilities can be fairly simple with few amenities. Hotels are chosen for their location and access to the wonderous landscapes and natural wonders of Iceland. Hotels are often remote, all the better to enjoy the beautiful natural setting.

Head south along the coast driving past volcanoes and lava fields, stopping at Seljalandsfoss and Gljúfrabúi waterfalls. Later, stop in Hveragerði where we will have the opportunity to taste bread baked in one of the local hot springs. We'll then visit the Lava Center in Hvolsvöllur to learn about volcanoes before arriving to Skaftafell for the night. (B)

Drive to Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon to see the floating icebergs and the adjacent black sand Diamond Beach, often scattered with chunks of ice that have drifted in. Continue to Vatnajökull National Park for a hike to Svartifoss waterfall and stop at farm in Öræfi to see one of Iceland’s historic turf churches. (B)

Based on the season we may visit Dyrhólaey Cape where it is sometimes possible to see puffins as well as at other locations along the southern coast (May to August). (B)

Start the day with a visit to the Skógar Folk Museum before getting to the powerful Skógafoss waterfall, one of the biggest in Iceland with a viewing platform for incredible photo opportunities. Continue on to the Golden Circle route, stopping at Gulfoss waterfall and then Geysir to see the water spew high up nto the air. Overnight in nearby Selfoss. (B/L)

Set out in the morning for a walk in Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site where two of earth’s tectonic plates meet. Then visit a farm to learn about Icelandic traditional farming practices before tucking into a farm-to-table lunch. In the afternoon continue to western Island and the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. (B/L)

Enjoy a full day of exploration in the incredible landscapes of the area. Head to Snæfellsjökull National Park to see a glacier-capped volcano, the basalt cliffs at Lóndrangar and the black pebble beach at Djúpalónssandur. Visit a church in the middle of a lava field in Búðir and check out Kirkjufell Mountain, featured in Game of Thrones. (B/D)

Head south this morning to the scenic fjord of Borgarfjörður where we’ll stop to see 2 different waterfalls before visiting the small village of Reykholt. Continue to the Deildartunguhver hot spring which is the highest flowing hot spring in Europe and is used to heat parts of western Iceland. Arrive back to Reykjavik in the afternoon for a final night on the town. (B)

Depart at any time. (B)
