Itinerary

Embark on a sightseeing tour of this port city which takes us to the iconic suspension bridge over Golden Horn Bay, one of the largest of its kind worldwide, opened in 2012 for the APEC conference. Later, transfer to Vladivostok Railway Station and enjoy a Champagne Reception before boarding the Golden Eagle. Stay 12 Nights: the Golden Eagle (B/L/D)

Cross the River Amur and arrive in Khabarovsk. See the memorial to Yerofey Pavlovich Khabarov and the WWII memorial to fallen soldiers, then visit the Regional Museum. (B/L/D)

Follow the Shilka and Amur rivers, which are situated close to the Chinese border. (B/L/D)

Perhaps enjoy a Russian language lesson. (B/L/D)

Cross into Mongolia and visit Ulaanbaatar. We start the tour at Gandan Monastery, one of Mongolia's most important Buddhist monasteries, housing a community of over 500 monks. At Chinggis Square we can see the central monument to Genghis Khan, undoubtedly the most feared and revered Mongol. Later you have the choice to venture to the grasslands of Gorkhi-Terelj National Park or visit the National Museum and Bogd Khan Winter Palace Museum. After your touring has concluded enjoy a performance of traditional Mongolian throat singing and contortionists. (B/L/D)

In Ulan Ude, embark on an exploration of the Old Believers Village. Later, enjoy a concert featuring local dancers and musicians. (B/L/D)

Today our train is pulled by a true Soviet steam locomotive. There will be plenty of opportunities to take photographs as the train winds its way along Lake Baikal. Travel by boat to Listvyanka and visit the Baikal Limnological Museum or enjoy a hike. Weather permitting, on the shores of Lake Baikal enjoy a delicious barbecue, which includes freshly smoked omul fish. You may like to choose a hiking opportunity up Chersky Mount or take the chair lift, which offers some spectacular and panoramic hillside views of the grandeur of the lake below. (B/L/D)

In Irkutsk, perhaps enjoy a guided tour or take part in a traditional Russian cooking class. Alternatively, you might also wish to visit a traditional Russian Dacha (summer house) to get an insight into the everyday life of an average Russian family. Later, enjoy a private opera performance. Disembark in Novosibirsk for a tour that takes you to Lenin Square, which houses the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. Time permitting, you will have the option to visit Novosibirsk's excellent Railway Museum. The museum displays locomotives and rolling stock from the late 1800s, including carriages of the Tsars, through to the Soviet era. Alternatively, you may choose to visit the Mineralogical Centre with its fine display of Siberian minerals. (B/L/D)

Yekaterinburg is the capital of the Urals and is known as the Great Divide. The Ural Mountains create the natural border between Europe and Asia. Discover the city on a tour and visit the Church Upon the Blood. Later travel to the obelisk which marks the geographical border between Europe and Asia and enjoy a glass of champagne. Time permitting, you will have the option to explore the Museum of Military History or visit the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Centre to learn about the contemporary political history of Russia and its first president. In historic Kazan, take a guided discovery. One of the highlights of this city tour is our exploration of the Kremlin Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Kazan is the birthplace of one of Russia's most famous opera singers, Feodor Chaliapin. You will have the chance to enjoy a private concert of his music. (B/L/D)

After travelling over 10,500 kilometres you will arrive in Russia's capital city, Moscow. Be met at the train station and transfer to your hotel. This evening, enjoy a welcome dinner with Russian folklore entertainment. Stay: Moscow, Hotel Baltschug Kempinksi (B/D)
