Itinerary

Arrive in Vilnius and be transferred to your hotel. Get to know your APT Tour Director and fellow travellers at a Welcome Reception this evening. Stay Two Nights: Vilnius, Kempinski Hotel Cathedral Square

Tour Vilnius and discover the Old Town. Later, choose your sightseeing inclusion. Tonight, savour a welcome dinner. (B/D)

Freedom of Choice:
  • Visit Trakai Island Castle, a stone castle which began construction in the 14th century by Kestutis, and around 1409 major works were completed by his son, Vytautas the Great. Alternatively, embark on a Soviet exploration, including a visit to the Vilnius TV Tower, the tallest structure in Lithuania. The tower played a major role in 1991, where lives were lost opposing the Soviet military seizing the tower.

Travel to Siauliai and stop at the Hill of Crosses. Then continue to Riga. Stay Two Nights: Riga, Grand Hotel Kempinski (B/D)

After this morning's activity, savour lunch at a local restaurant. (B/L)

  • Today you will discover Riga's culinary highlights with one of Latvia's most famous food bloggers.

Stop in Sigulda to visit to the Turaida Museum Reserve, which houses Turaida Stone Castle. This remarkable monument's construction began in 1214 for Albert of Riga, with its name meaning 'Thor's Garden' in Livonian. Long after being abandoned in 1776, regular archaeological excavations were carried out from 1976, which were followed by restoration and conservation works. To gain first-hand experience, your local expert showing you around the castle was took part in the excavations. Afterwards, see Sigulda's bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track, before arriving in Cesis.

Tonight's accommodation is special, housed in a former 19th-century villas built for the nobles of Russia, as well as a former military hospital built in 1918. The property has since been restored to its former glory and features a spectacular bridge house. Tonight's dining experience is at your hotel's restaurant, serving fine Mediterranean cuisine with a touch of nostalgic Latvian flavours. Stay: Cesis, Villa Santa Hotel (B/D)

On your way to Tallinn, Estonia, visit Parnu, a city known for its 19th-century timber villas and Parnu Beach. Stay Two Nights: Tallinn, Schlossle Hotel (B/D)

Visit Tallinn's Raeapteek, one of Europe's oldest continuously running pharmacies, in business since the 15th century. (B)

Relax as you enjoy a ferry ride across the Baltic Sea to Finland's Helsinki. Stay Three Nights: Helsinki, Hotel Kamp (B)

Set out on a guided tour of Helsinki's best sites. Explore Temppeliaukio, the famous ‘Rock Church', visit the Helsinki Central Library Oodi and wander through the 100-year-old Hakaniemi Market Hall. This evening, head to an island for dinner at a local restaurant. (B/D)

  • Spend a day in stunning Nuuksio National Park. Visit the Haltia nature centre then head to a reindeer farm, where you'll have the opportunity to feed the friendly reindeer.

Travel to the imperial residence of Peterhof Palace, where you will enjoy a guided tour. Later, board your river ship. Stay 10 Nights: MS Valentina (B/L/D)

Take a Hydrofoil ride on the Neva River to the State Hermitage, the second-largest art museum in the world and home to Russia's royal art collection of more than three million works. After a special experience here, tour the museum. Spend the afternoon at leisure. (B/L/D)

  • Here, go inside before the museum is open to the public and take in the exclusive Hermitage Peacock Clock Ceremony. Acquired by Catherine the Great, the Peacock Clock is a large automated clock featuring three life-sized mechanical birds.
  • For something special this evening, appreciate Russia's arts scene and attend a private ballet performance at the Hermitage Theatre, one of the oldest theatres in St Petersburg.

  • Join a discovery of the lavish Catherine Palace and grounds, constructed in the 18th century as a summer palace for the Empress. Alternatively, you may wish to visit the Fabergé Museum, home to the world's largest collection of pieces by Peter Carl Fabergé.

Situated on Lake Onega, Kizhi is home to some of Russia's iconic wooden architecture. Once declared a parish centre for the Russian Orthodox Church in the 16th century, it survived a rebellion until the 1950s, when most of the island's residents left, leaving behind impressive wooden relics. Explore the open-air museum and marvel at the World Heritage-listed Transfiguration Church, built in 1714 without the use of a single nail. (B/L/D)

Today stop in the historic Golden Ring city, Yaroslavl. Founded by Prince Yaroslav the Wise in 1010, this is one of Russia's oldest cities, tracing its roots back to the Vikings. Here, a sightseeing tour illuminates the city's history through its glorious architecture, including Spassky Monastery and the Church of Elia the Prophet. (B/L/D)

  • Perhaps gain an insight into the history of space exploration with a visit to the Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics, situated at the base of a 100-metre titanium obelisk. Alternatively, explore Tretyakov Art Gallery, Russia's national gallery.

Set out on a morning discovery that allows you to marvel at some of Moscow's unique Metro stations, which feature chandeliers and marble statues. Later, perhaps tour a Cold War bunker or enjoy free time to explore Moscow. An evening of fun awaits at tonight's farewell dinner, where traditional Russian folklore performers will dazzle you.
