Itinerary

Arrive in Vilnius and be transferred to your hotel. Get to know your APT Tour Director and fellow travellers at a Welcome Reception this evening. Stay Two Nights: Vilnius, Kempinski Hotel Cathedral Square

Tour Vilnius and discover the Old Town. Later, choose your sightseeing inclusion. Tonight, savour a welcome dinner. (B/D)

Freedom of Choice:
  • Visit Trakai Island Castle, a stone castle which began construction in the 14th century by Kestutis, and around 1409 major works were completed by his son, Vytautas the Great. Alternatively, embark on a Soviet exploration, including a visit to the Vilnius TV Tower, the tallest structure in Lithuania. The tower played a major role in 1991, where lives were lost opposing the Soviet military seizing the tower.

Travel to Siauliai and stop at the Hill of Crosses, then continue to Riga. Stay Two Nights: Riga, Grand Hotel Kempinski (B/D)

After your Signature Experience, savour lunch at the Beer Embassy, including a tasting. (B/L)

Signature Experiences:
  • Explore Riga's culinary highlights with one of Latvia's most famous food bloggers. Get to know them over coffee, where they will share with you their passion for Latvian cuisine as they show you around the Central Market.

Stop in Sigulda to visit to the Turaida Museum Reserve, which houses Turaida Stone Castle. This remarkable monument's construction began in 1214 for Albert of Riga, with its name meaning 'Thor's Garden' in Livonian. Long after being abandoned in 1776, regular archaeological excavations were carried out from 1976, which were followed by restoration and conservation works. To gain first-hand experience, your local expert showing you around the castle was took part in the excavations. Afterwards, see Sigulda's bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track, before arriving in Cesis.

Tonight's accommodation is special, housed in a former 19th-century villas built for the nobles of Russia, as well as a former miltary hospital built in 1918. The property has since been restored to its former glory and features a spectacular bridge house. Tonight's dining experience is at your hotel's restaurant, serving fine Mediterranean cuisine with a touch of nostalgic Latvian flavours. Stay: Cesis, Villa Santa Hotel (B/D)

On your way to Tallinn, Estonia, visit Parnu, a city known for its 19th-century timber villas and Parnu Beach. Stay Two Nights: Tallinn, Schlossle Hotel (B/D)

Visit Tallinn's Raeapteek, one of Europe's oldest continuously running pharmacies, in business since the 15th century. (B)

Relax as you enjoy a ferry ride across the Baltic Sea to Finland's Helsinki. Stay Three Nights: Helsinki, Hotel Kamp (B)

Set out on a guided tour of Helsinki's best sites. Explore Temppeliaukio, the famous ‘Rock Church', visit the Helsinki Central Library Oodi and wander through the 100-year-old Hakaniemi Market Hall. This evening, head to an island for dinner at a local restaurant. (B/D)

After this morning's Signature Experience, enjoy afternoon tea in a Lappish style kota hut. (B/L)
