Stop in Sigulda to visit to the Turaida Museum Reserve, which houses Turaida Stone Castle. This remarkable monument's construction began in 1214 for Albert of Riga, with its name meaning 'Thor's Garden' in Livonian. Long after being abandoned in 1776, regular archaeological excavations were carried out from 1976, which were followed by restoration and conservation works. To gain first-hand experience, your local expert showing you around the castle was took part in the excavations. Afterwards, see Sigulda's bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track, before arriving in Cesis.
