Overview

Book online and enjoy exclusive savings on APT's 5 Day Private Gardens of Prominent Victorians. Spend five days on a small group holiday with Botanica to Victoria’s most-loved gardens, including Alowyn Gardens in the Yarra Valley and the private garden of Phillip Johnson.

Itinerary

Stay Four Nights: 5-star hotel in Melbourne, the luxurious Hotel Windsor or similar

Visit a private garden, then continue on to Heronswood Garden, overlooking Port Phillip Bay. Wander through the gardens, with their perennial borders, scented herbs and dry-climate plants. After enjoying a ‘Fork to Fork' lunch at Heronswood, we continue on to the late Dame Elisabeth Murdoch's property, Cruden Farm. Here the driveway of lemon-scented gumtrees leads to beautiful gardens. (B/L)

Today, tour the Yarra Valley, home to some of Victoria's premier wineries and artisanal produce. Visit spectacular Alowyn Gardens, where the owners have transformed a barren landscape into a beautiful instructive garden. Discover the perennial border, a silver birch forest, an edible garden, a parterre garden and several display gardens. Stop for a wine tasting at Yering Station before enjoying lunch at Coombe Farm, once owned by Dame Nellie Melba. Afterwards, set out on a private garden tour of her estate. (B/L)

After breakfast we explore the beautiful Dandenong Ranges. At an altitude of 580 metres, we discover Cloudehill Gardens, which features extensive herbaceous borders, roses and azalea walks. Among the mature trees featured at Cloudehill are maples and copper beeches. We enjoy lunch at Coonara Springs restaurant and wander their picking garden. Afterwards, we visit the private garden of Phillip Johnson, Best in Show winner at the 2013 Chelsea Flower Show. Enjoy a Farewell Dinner this evening. (B/L/D)

This morning, enjoy a walking tour of Melbourne's hidden laneways before your transfer to the airport for your onward journey. (B)
