Itinerary

We will meet you on arrival in Montréal and transfer you, along maple-lined boulevards resplendent in fall colours, to the port where you will board the luxurious Seabourn Quest.

This evening you will meet your Botanical Guide and fellow Botanica guests. Enjoy your first onboard dinner as your ship sails north along the St Lawrence River towards Québec City. Stay 12 Nights: Seabourn Quest (D)

Today arrive in Trois-Rivières, Canada's oldest industrial city, renowned for its architecture and monuments. Visit Our Lady of the Cape Shrine, popular with pilgrims and artists, located on the shores of the St. Lawrence River. Next, visit the Manoir Boucher de Niverville to learn about the history of the area and the family who once lived here. Tour the house and garden before enjoying a city sightseeing tour. (B/L/D)

This morning, the charming arboretum city of Québec will greet you with a spectacular display of autumn foliage. Enjoy a special tour of the private garden of La Seigneurie de I'ile d'Orléans. Considered one of Canada's most beautiful private gardens, explore its six themed gardens spread out over 10 hectares and look out for rare and unusual plants.

Afterwards, a sightseeing tour will introduce you to the highlights of Québec's rich history. (B/L/D)

Breathtaking views abound today as you cruise the Saguenay River, bordered by dramatic cliffs which create some of Canada's most stunning natural scenery. Watch the changing colours of autumn leaves transform the landscape along the banks as you head further north. The Saguenay is noted for its majestic fjords and phenomenal wildlife, including a variety of whales, seals and birds. Arriving in the seaside town of Saguenay, you will disembark and explore one of its outstanding gardens before arriving back to Québec this evening. (B/L/D)

Continue cruising north along the St Lawrence Seaway to the Gulf of St Lawrence, the world's largest estuary and home to a known ten species of whale, including giant blue whales, humpbacks, sperm whales and belugas. Autumn is the perfect time for whale watching and the further north you head, the better chance you have of seeing a blue whale. (B/L/D)

Today your ship arrives at Prince Edward Island. Set off on a tour of Charlottetown, then visit Green Gables Heritage Place, the homestead made famous by the fictional heroine Anne of Green Gables.

Afterwards, at Beaconsfield Historic House, we explore the Victorian interiors and elegant gardens of this harbourside estate. (B/L/D)

Spend a full day at sea as your ship cruises the waters from Prince Edward Island to Nova Scotia. Perhaps enjoy the ship's luxurious amenities including its health spa and fitness centre. (B/L/D)

Arrive in Halifax, Nova Scotia, renowned for its maritime history. Here we will visit the Annapolis Royal Historic Garden, rated Canada's Garden of the Year in 2015, which showcases designs and material representing more than four hundred years of Canadian history. Next, visit the Tangled Garden, a three-acre herb and sculpture garden, before exploring the Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens, located on the beautiful campus of Acadia University. (B/L/D)

Enjoy a full day to explore the sights of Halifax at your leisure. Perhaps visit Peggy's Cove or Lunenburg, or maybe wander the historic city centre. (B/L/D)

This morning our ship docks in Boston Harbor, the site of the infamous ‘Boston Tea Party'. Set off on a sightseeing tour, learning about the people, places and events that sparked the American Revolution. You will also get to spend time in the Boston Public Garden where the fall colours will be on display, as well as the Isabella Gardner Museum, where we view its extensive art collection and courtyard garden, while learning more about this remarkable woman. Arrive in Newport, Rhode Island, where we visit the opulent summer homes and gardens from the Gilded Age, including The Elms, the summer residence of coal magnate Edward Julius Berwind; The Breakers, the grandest of all of Newport's summer ‘cottages'; and Marble House, owned by the Vanderbilt family. Take a tour of Rhode Island before returning to your ship for a Farewell Dinner this evening. (B/L/D)

Arrive in New York this morning, where will disembark our ship. Travel into the heart of the Hudson River region to visit the home of American author Edith Wharton, The Mount. Wharton designed the house and its grounds and considered it her “first real home” Travel back along the Hudson River to Poughkeepsie admiring the fall colours of the region. Today, set off for Hyde Park, where we visit Springwood, the estate of Franklin D. Roosevelt, America's only four-term president. See the secret walled Beatrix Farrand garden and visit Eleanor Roosevelt's house on the estate. Also, visit the Vanderbilt Mansion, a National Historic Site. You are sure to enjoy its 211 acres of park land, which boasts centuries-old tree plantings and stunning Hudson River and Catskill Mountain views. (B)

Visit Kykuit, home to four generations of the Rockefeller family. Kykuit displays magnificent, expansive garden terraces, garden ornaments and many fountains, as well as spectacular views of the Hudson Valley. We will also see its private art collection. After lunch in Sleepy Hollow, we arrive at Sunnyside, the home of US historical figure and famous author Washington Irving. We enjoy a tour before arriving in New York City. This morning, discover the incredible plants at the New York Botanical Gardens where there will be time to wander on your own and enjoy lunch.

Later this afternoon, we set off on a walking botanical discovery of The Highline with your Botanical Guide. Alternatively, you may like to spend the afternoon at leisure, while exploring this iconic city. (B)

Depart New York City for Wilmington, Delaware. Along the way, we stop off at an Amish village in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, before arriving at the opulent and historic Hotel Du Pont. Stay Two Nights:. Wilmington, Hotel Du Pont or similar (B/L/D)

Spend the morning at Longwood Gardens, featured on the series Monty Don's American Gardens. With 20 outdoor display gardens, as well as lakes, meadows and forest walks, there is plenty to explore.

This afternoon, visit Winterthur Garden, the former home of collector and horticulturalist, Henry Francis du Pont. Winterthur's 60-acre naturalistic garden is among America's best, with magnificent specimen plantings and massed displays of colour. (B/D)

Depart Wilmington and visit Nemours Mansion, owned by the Du Pont family. During a special guided tour, discover rare French antique furniture, artworks and tapestries throughout its 100-plus rooms.

Later we will have time to wander around Chanticleer Garden, one of the great gardens of the region, also featured by Monty Don. Arrive in Washington this afternoon. Stay: Washington, InterContinental the Willard Washington DC, or similar (B)

See the sights of Washington, including the White House. Visit Mount Vernon, the former home of America's first 'gardening president', George Washington, as well as Hillwood Estate, former estate-turned-museum of the late Marjorie Merriweather Post, heiress of General Foods. It features a wonderful collection of artworks and treasures, including Fabergé eggs. Enjoy a Farewell Dinner this evening. (B/D)
