Itinerary

Arrive in Amsterdam and be transferred to our beautiful hotel. The Hotel Jakarta features a subtropical garden in its central atrium; a collaboration with Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam.

This evening, enjoy a canal cruise through this spectacular city, while enjoying dinner. Stay: Amsterdam, Jakarta Hotel or similar (D)

Spend a full day at the incredible Keukenhof Garden, known as the Garden of Europe. See the impressive floral displays which are created each year to showcase the Dutch bulb industry. Then return to Amsterdam to board your river ship for the next 14 nights. Stay 14 Nights: MS AmaReina (B/D)

Wake early to visit the Aalsmeer Flower Auction, the world's largest flower auction, covering 128 acres. Around 20 million flowers are sold each day here, by flower producers from all over the world. We then visit the former royal palace of Het Loo. Explore the newly renovated palace and gardens which have been reconstructed to match the original 17th-century design of King William III and his wife Queen Mary II. Finally, we visit the De Tuinen Van Appeltern design gardens, with over 200 inspiring gardens to view before returning to your river ship for dinner. (B/L/D)

This morning will be spent cruising through Germany. You might want to head up to the sun deck and take in the views as they pass by. On a visit to Namedy Castle, go beyond the gates and wander about the rooms and gardens with your Botanical Guide. Then enjoy a cocktail party in the ballroom, where a pianist sets the mood.

Later, head back on board and enjoy dinner as your ship sets sail for Koblenz. Here, perhaps join your Cruise Director for an evening stroll through the charming village. (B/L/D)

Have your camera handy to capture some of the best scenery you'll encounter as you cruise through the Rhine Gorge. Dock in Rudesheim and take a gondola ride over the Rhine Valley which will give you the best perspective of the town and the opportunity to see the famous vineyards of the region. Alternatively, for something a little more quirky, visit Siegfried's Mechanical Musical Instrument Musuem, which houses a collection of fine automated musical creations. (B/L/D)

Step ashore in Miltenberg today and set out on a guided exploration. Wander through cobblestone streets and admire the town's enchanting half-timbered houses.

This afternoon, visit a former Benedictine abbey in Seligenstadt, with a guided tour of the convent and apothecary garden that helped make this monastery self-sufficient with food and medicine during the 17th and 18th centuries. (B/L/D)

This morning, walk to the magnificent 18th-century Baroque Würzburg Residence, which is surrounded by gardens created under the patronage of the prince-bishops Lothar Franz and Friedrich Karl von Schönborn. We then travel to the fairytale town of Rothenburg to visit Rothenburg Castle Garden, with beautiful views of the Tauber Valley. (B/L/D)

Relax on board as you sail to Bamberg.

On arrival, join an exploration to Schloss Seehof, built as a summer residence and hunting lodge. The park features hornbeam hedges that are over 300 years old and groves of 250-year-old linden trees. (B/L/D)

This morning, visit the gardens at the Imperial Castle Nuremberg, one of the most famous castles of Germany, overlooking Nuremberg's Old Town.

This afternoon, continue cruising on the Main-Danube Canal. Having taken 32 years to construct, the canal links the North and Black seas. (B/L/D)

In Regensburg, explore its atmospheric World Heritage-listed city centre, including the Herzogspark botanic and alpine garden, located on the banks of the Danube River. With a history dating back to Roman times, this incredible city was the first capital of Bavaria. (B/L/D)

From Passau, head to Salzburg to visit some of the sites featured in The Sound of Music, including the Mirabell Gardens.

Afterwards, head to the botanic gardens, with its apothecary herb garden, dry grassland and farmhouse garden. (B/L/D)

Cruise through the Wachau Valley to Durnstein, where you'll roam its cobblestone lanes to the Benedictine Melk Abbey. The abbey contains the tomb of Saint Coloman of Stockerau and the remains of several members of the House of Babenberg, Austria's first ruling dynasty. The gardens are located on a rocky outcrop high above the Danube and include a rose garden and a baroque park designed as an English landscape garden.

Afterwards, you may choose to take a guided bike ride along the river from Melk to Durnstein to meet the ship. (B/L/D)

Arrive in Vienna and visit Schönbrunn Palace and gardens which have been open to the public since 1779 and are on the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites. Explore the palace and gardens before touring the Alpine garden in Belvedere Park. The oldest Alpine garden in Europe, it houses the Austrian Federal Gardens valuable and historical Alpine plant collection. After dinner, head to the princely Liechtenstein City Palace in the heart of Vienna, where we have arranged an exclusive cocktail party and private recital, just for us. A full orchestra will perform classical masterpieces by Mozart and Strauss. You will also be enchanted by an operatic recital and a performance by members of the Mozart Boys' Choir. (B/L/D)

Soak up the views as you enjoy a relaxing morning sailing through Hungary. In Esztergom, set out on a guided tour to discover this picturesque town and its historic buildings. Then, follow in the footsteps of the Habsburg Empire as you board the Grand Empress steam train, bound for Budapest. See inside some of the ornate carriages from the early 1900s and be treated like royalty as you savour lunch on board.

On arrival at Budapest Railway Station, see the Royal Waiting Room – a rather fitting way to end this opulent journey.

Later, return to your ship. (B/L/D)

Enjoy a morning city tour of Budapest, taking in its historic monuments and private gardens which are otherwise closed to the public. Visit a cloister garden and one of the prettiest inner-city parks, while you learn about the botanical curiosities of Budapest. The afternoon is at leisure to explore further. (B/L/D)

After breakfast this morning, it is time to disembark the ship and be transferred to the airport. (B)
