Fascinating Portugal 0 , VIC, Australia, May 2023
I would certainly recommend this tour. It covers the whole country and it is a country of contrasts, from the Algarve in the south to the Duoro valley in the north. They are two very different geographies. The hotels were comfortable and there was plenty of food. There was also plenty of walking. Bring comfortable walking shoes with you.

There were ...read more many highlights, even if some were a bit of a challenge: try wine tasting at 9.15 am. The three that stood out for me were the Capela dos Ossos with its skulls, bones and the mummified remains of a young women and a child; the cork factory; and the Templar Castle and Convent of Christ in Tomar. The local guides were excellent, especially the local guide in Tomar.

Criticisms are few. The time in Lisbon was limited and our tour director probably spent more time talking about his real estate adventures and the unreliability of Portuguese tradesmen than was necessary. And if you use a face washer (or face cloth), bring one with you, because they aren’t supplied in the hotels.

Jemma Rosen, as always, provided the service I’ve come to expect from Global Journeys, but excelled when it came to a major problem with Lufthansa’s cancelled flights and difficulties with alternative flights. She had the problem sorted in a very short time.
Tour of Portugal even better second time around   5 , Australia, Apr 2019
I did a comprehensive tour of Portugal over a decade ago and thought it was time to revisit this beautiful country. I have travelled with Insight Vacations more than a dozen times, so choosing a tour operator was easy.

Although the itinerary was similar to the previous tour, this time there were new inclusions and a broader cultural focus, both ...read more of which made a difference. For example, in each region we tasted local delicacies: pastel de nata in Lisbon, doce fino in Algarve, ginjinha in Obidos, pastel de Tentugal in Coimbra, tibia in Braga, etc. etc. These are small touches, but were appreciated by all, since they and the stories behind them are all threads in the tapestry that is Portugal.

Accommodation was comfortable and very close to city centres and historic sites. Included food was excellent, particularly in the local restaurants Frade dos mares in Lisbon, Sem-Fim in Monsaraz, farm-to-table dinner in Quinta de Maroccos in Peso da Regua... Both included and optional excursions were excellent and were a real value-add to an already great choice of locations and sightseeing.

The local guides were superb - they were passionate about their cities, knowledgeable and entertaining. The tour director and the driver were great too: professional and attentive. The former was friendly, personable, well organised, able to quickly solve problems and displayed excellent attention to detail.

Overall, the tour was very well organised. If anything, I think it should be a bit longer- additional two days would have allowed for some more time to be spent in locations worthy of more exploration. My only criticism would be the stay in Almancil. While the stroll on the beach was nice, there really wasn't anything else to do in the afternoon/evening. Perhaps a different location for an overnight should be considered? Apart from that, the tour was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in gaining a deeper insight into Portugal.

On a separate note - this was the first time I've booked a tour with Global Journeys, an agency I came across accidentally while doing an online search. At first I was a little sceptical and concerned about whether I'd made the right choice of an agent. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. Global Journeys provided service of a high standard: communication was timely, responses to questions prompt, information accurate. I have already recommended them to friends and would use them again myself.
Fabulous Portugal 0 , NSW, Australia, Jun 2018
Another terrific tour. Insight excel at employing exceptional tour directors, Sarah was superb. Hotels were of a good standard, a good mix of included tours but as with most Insight trips the most enjoyable were the optional excursions. The Fado dinner was a standout event, with front row tables and a good quality meal. Global journeys once again made ...read more the holiday experience easy to plan and good value for money. Yvonne was a pleasure to deal with.
An Easy way to experience Portugal 1 , NSW, Australia, Apr 2018
Our first Insight tour was great. Nice accommodation and tours, plus a very good guide. Portugal is a great destination as it has good food and wine, plus its cheap compared to other countries in Europe.
Great Way To Experience Portugal 2 , SA, Australia, May 2017
This tour is a great way to see all that Portugal has to offer. Although the tour was full, it didn't feel so and there is plenty of space on the bus. Our tour guide John was excellent and provided great commentary throughout the tour. The hotel accommodation was very good, as were the included meals. This was our third Insight Vacations tour and definitely ...read more the best one so far. You know you have had a good tour when you can't think of anything to complain about.
Portugal in a nutshell 0 , WA, Australia, Apr 2016
It was a good 'taste' of what makes Portugal special, from Fado in Lisbon to Port in Oporto. Also a good 'taste' of local food, from cod to Iberian ham to Portugese tarts and other specialist deserts. Great scenery such as old fortified hill top villages and cork tree groves. Booking through Global Journeys was refreshingly efficient.
