I have always had good customer service from Global Journeys, especially with Hannah as my contact consultant. It was an enjoyable trip if not a tad long. The tour guide and driver were fantastic, happy, conscientious, accommodating and went out of their way to give everyone a good customer experience. The weather was great, the accommodation was good, food was good. Probably the only real disappointment for me was that the itinerary wasn't as detailed as I would have liked it to be - for example - I was a tad disappointed when a visit to Margaret River itself wasn't actually included, although the visits to the winery and chocolate factory in the general area were two of the highlights of the trip.

We had a fabulous holiday, very pleased with Yvonne from Global Journeys, thank you! It was a good time of year to travel, as we experienced a flurry of snow at Cradle Mountain, and the mountain had snow on it. After the first 2 cold days it warmed up, each day was lovely sunshine.

Fiona and I were impressed at the number of places we visited, even more than we expected. The accommodation was of a very good standard, with heating and electric blankets. Food at the hotels was delicious, and they catered for my diet.
Fellow passengers were friendly and fun. The bus driver and the guide, were both extremely friendly and able to give a detailed commentary wherever we went. We particularly enjoyed the river cruse and Sarah Island, it was very interesting.
It was my first visit to Tasmania and I loved it. Fiona also loved it.

All inquiries and our booking were handled professionally by Yvonne yet again. Travelmarvel's 15 day Wonders of the South West of WA was excellent. A small group in a large coach. We traveled over 4500km, everyday there were new experiences and places to see. There were some excellent local guides especially at Wave Rock Hyden, HMS Sydney Memorial Geraldton and Bluff Knoll in the Stirling Ranges.

The tour was not rushed even though there were some long days. The guide/driver, Wally and Andrew, found time for extra stops to view the wildflowers. We felt that our group had extra experiences to the other tours that were traveling the same route at the same time. Accommodation was at a high standard except for one, included meals were of a high standard with plenty of choice.

I can highly recommend the 14 day Baltics Explorer trip with Travelmarvel. This trip is well priced and includes a mixture of rail, bus and overnight ferry transport. Every second day is free, so is great if you don't want to be in the company of the other passengers 24 x 7. An orientation tour of the town/city is given on the first morning of the first day, so this gives you an opportunity of deciding how you would like to spend your free time. The accommodation was very good, with excellent breakfasts; the guides in each place were very well informed and all arrangements worked like clockwork. The cities we visited were extremely interesting and each had its own special characteristics. I cannot speak more highly of this tour.

An absolutely great trip with just 10 other travellers which was ideal. Unfortunately our tour guide was not great, hampered by his poor English and limited communication but our drivers were fantastic and made up for our guide. Tented experiences were a real highlight especially in Masai Mara. Also loved the visits to school and Masai village. The variety of landscapes and terrains was amazing and there was never a boring moment. Loved the ability of our drivers to get us as close to animals as reasonable. Thanks Jemma at Global Journeys for organising everything perfectly. My first booking with GJ and certainly not the last.

We started planning our river cruise with Global Journeys in early 2016. From start to finish their service was excellent, thanks Yvonne. The river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest is the way to go. Budapest is the jewel in the crown. What a way to finish our trip with an evening cruise through Budapest. Simply magnificent, the Captain joined us on the Sun deck for the experience.

The Travelmarvel cruise represented great value for money. The TM Diamond was a comfortable ship with the friendliest of staff. The food and service were excellent. There was plenty of opportunity to exercise on our daily shore excursions. The home visit for afternoon tea to the German family in Miltenberg was very special. We would recommend this experience to all.

In-transit passengers, irrespective of the time period in transit in Johannesburg, still require proof of the Yellow Fever vaccination. Please note that authorities require visitors who've been to East Africa to hold valid Yellow Fever certificates upon re-entry. Antimalarial medication is recommended for Africa. See your doctor or visit a travel clinic at least eight weeks before you travel for your recommended vaccines and/or malaria medication.

South America FAQ's

Altitude sickness - will it be an issue on tour?

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is a condition caused by ascending to high altitudes. Some parts of Peru, including Cusco and Lake Titicaca, are situated at an altitude of up to 4000 metres. At these altitudes, the lack of oxygen affects most people to some extent, until they become acclimatised. Some symptoms include headaches, lethargy, dizziness, loss of appetite or just light-headedness. To reduce the symptoms of altitude sickness we recommend that you drink plenty of fluids: water, fruit juice, herbal tea and the local 'mate de coca' and avoid caffeinated and alcoholic beverages.

Are flights included within South America?

Once the tour commences, all flights within South America are included. Travelmarvel has chosen the best available connections for your holiday; some of these may be early morning or late afternoon departures. We find flight schedules can change regularly, and our Travelmarvel tour director will keep you informed of any changes that occur while on tour. Since we cannot guarantee pre-assigned seats or do a group check-in ahead of time, your tour director will assist you at the airports.

What are the meals like?

South American cuisine offers a vast array of foods right across the continent and is world renowned for exceptional quality red meat, especially in Argentina and Brazil. Peru and Chile will offer some of the finest seafood, including ceviche (a raw seafood dish cooked in citrus juice) and sushi. Throughout your trip, there will be a variety of food styles, so be prepared to delight your taste buds. South American wines are a highlight of the trip, and some of the best wine regions in the world are located in Argentina and Chile. There is also a large number of spirits, liqueurs and cocktails that are unique to their associated regions.

Are gratuities inlcluded on our South American tour?

Gratuities are included for all of your included meals, hotel charges, Travelmarvel tour director, driver and local guides. See your travel documentation for any variations to the above.

How fit do I need to be tour South America?

Travelmarvel requires passengers to have a good level of fitness and health to participate in our South American tours. Given the size of South America and the distances covered, the pace of this itinerary can include some long days with early morning starts, which may also be due to airline schedules. When visiting many of the cities and ruins walking is required on cobbled streets, steps (sometimes steep) and uneven footpaths, and a good level of mobility is required. You should be able to stand on your feet for an extended period of time to visit museums and other sites. In the lead-up to your tour we recommend you try to walk for an hour at a time at least three times a week. This will ensure you have the stamina and energy to see and appreciate all of the sites we'll take you to. You should also ensure your walking shoes fit properly and have been broken-in prior to departure. We recommend seeking medical advice prior to your travels. Consult your local doctor for the latest immunisation and medical recommendations.

What should we pack?

The dress code on tour is casual. We suggest bringing a pair of good walking shoes, casual lightweight clothing that can be layered, a jacket or parka, and a sweater or windcheater. In the mountainous areas (including Machu Picchu), bring your well-worn runners or boots, warm clothing for the cold nights, and your hat and sunscreen. There are no formal nights or dress requirements, though many people wear smart casual attire for dinners and dressier clothing for some nights out.

If you have independent travel arrangements prior to your Travelmarvel tour and do not have an Travelmarvel transfer, the Tourist Information office at your arrival city will be able to offer assistance with directions to the ship or hotel. If you transfer to the ship on your own, we recommend you call the ship prior to confirm the ships docking location. The Travelmarvel Office is available in case of an emergency.
