Good overview of both countries with excellent country side views on the way. Please be ready to be on the move from one hotel to another each day with early wake up calls, maybe be tiring for some.

We travelled in September - quite hot and humid but we had cooling showers and breezes. It was a wonderful introduction to Japan and there is so much left to see and experience again in the changing seasons. The magnificent scenery was complimented by the kindness and respectful behaviour of the Japanese people, the provision of thoughtful conveniences and the beautiful presentation of accommodation and food. We found the tour to have a mostly balanced itinerary with a few later starts in the morning and free time in the afternoons. There were some days that seemed busier than others and at times we suffered from 'temple fatigue', mainly due to the heat and crowds. The temples were always different however, with unique facets.

We had to change coaches and drivers a couple of times due to the train journeys and a requirement to use local drivers. The standard of drivers was excellent but we missed the attention that familiarity brings eg. a supportive arm or extra step to ease our descent from the bus. Our guide Masako was superb - always well prepared in history and interesting facts and delighted in providing local practical information to make our own discovery trips so enjoyable. We always had comfort stops at well provisioned roadhouses, where we could buy local snacks and sometimes fruit, which was quite expensive.

Our hotels were conveniently located to shops or a safe walking distance to other attractions. We particularly valued the traditional experiences in the Ryokans and Onsens, the journeys through the magnificent mountain areas (so many high tech tunnels, bridges and dams) and relished the Japanese breakfasts, which included local vegetables, omelettes, soup with rice or noodles and also small quantities of fruit.

Many thanks to Georgie at Global Journeys for her endless patience and prompt responses to our questions and concerns :). Using the internet at home was very convenient and thankfully proved to be secure too. A very successful and enlightening experience indeed!

A great trip through three countries. A little hectic due to the distance travelled in sixteen days. A well organised trip by Trafalgar, good coach, great Portugese driver who took the coach into some very narrow places and streets and a tour director Javier GalvezJ who had been doing the job for 21 years and was worth every accolade you could give him and more, he was the best.

Most hotels were of very high standard with only a couple were a little inferior. We had a very friendly group of 48 made up with 40% Australians. The itinerary was very full with many and varied places to see with local guides. The only negative comment I would make is that it would have been nice to have a list of the optional extras and costs much earlier than was advised. Global Journeys through our consultant Yvonne Brookes kept us well informed continually from the time we booked our tour until the time we departed. Thank you for your excellent service.

This is a fantastic tour taking in the key sights throughout California. Highlights include the optional extra of flying over Grand Canyon, Old town San Diego, Yosemite National Park, San Francisco, and Vagas. We stayed in 4.5 star hotels and dined in some fabulous restaurants. The bus was mostly comfortable with stops every 1.5 to 2 hours in small city towns or rest stops. The tour guide was knowledgeable and happy to accommodate special requests where needed.

The weather in August was fantastic but unfortunately it was school holidays and there were a lot of tourists everywhere we went. Most of our excursions were early so as to avoid the crowds which is great if you like getting up early. This trip involved a lot of long days traveling which I know is probably unavoidable but can be quite exhausting as well. Tour group and director were great and we certainly did see a lot and have same great experiences. Optional excursions were excellent and worth the money.

We had excellent accommodation. Our Travel Director Giovanna was a lovely knowledgeable young lady and nothing was too much of an effort for her. Our drive Jose was amazing. He was a very competent driver and the way he handled some of those winding roads was fantastic both my husband and I felt very safe. The only thing i was disappointed with was the optional excursion we chose which was the Flamenco dinner & show.

Edinburgh Military Tattoo show is the highlight of trip. Ticket price was £43 (very cheap) and got Row 5 L. I suggested to upgrade for a better closer rows and seats with higher price. Shopping / Taxi fare/ restaurant are good and affordable, much cheaper than Oz. Weather is good and cool but warm and stuffy in hotel rooms and got no air conditioning in Ireland hotels. The worst experience was in Dunollie Hotel in Scotland. The carpet seemed to be recently disinfected or chemically treated. The smell was terrible. Staff did not help to change another room stating no more vacancy. I was suffocated for the first couple of hours. Culloden Estate was fantastic. Drivers are good. Walking tours are pricey. Fish & chips are surprisingly so average. Being from Oz, scenery - sheep, cattle, grass, mountains are not much different ( after touring experience in at least 38 countries) but always good to see and experience. Our travel agent Georgie was excellent, very prompt and helpful.

Had a great time. Just a few negatives....
1. The payment for the Optional Experiences was confirmed prior to travel via 3 sources to be deducted in Pounds Sterling. We loaded up funds on out Travel Card accordingly. However the Tour Director (Luke) was only given an Eftpos machine to process Euros. This would have meant a cost for us in the exchange rate. We therefore had to extract cash in Pounds to make the payment.
2. Some of the Hotels didn't supply face cloths for showering....very inconvenient.
3. The bed coverings supplied (usually a doona) were often inappropriate (too much) for the warmth of the hotel rooms. Many of us had to resort to open windows (if at all possible) or requesting fans to obtain a suitable level of comfort.

Some of the frequently asked questions Trafalgar receive from their clients
When can I expect to get my travel documents & itinerary?

Travel documents, including any air tickets, tour itinerary, hotel lists, and helpful hints and other information are sent approximately 20 days prior to your tour departure. Your Global Journeys Tour Consultant can organise these earlier if you are travelling before your holiday starts.

How many people will be on my trip?

You'll find an average of 40 to 45 guests on trips throughout Europe, and a maximum of 52 guests on trips throughout the United States and Canada.

Will I have free time?

Each itinerary offers the perfect balance of downtime and discoveries. We also give you the opportunity to tailor your trip with Optional Experiences. You might choose to enjoy some of the best seats in the house at the world-famous Moulin Rouge in Paris. Or maybe take a magical early-morning balloon ride over the Napa Valley. Trafalgar's At Leisure tours offer a more relaxed pace, with later starts and longer stays in each place.

What are the coaches like?

We pride ourselves on having the finest fleet of fuel-efficient, fully air-conditioned coaches – all with reclining seats and on-board restrooms. The high vantage point from your coach's window means you can take in all the glorious scenery, whether it's a vast rural landscape or an urban city centre. We also have on board WiFi.

Are the hotels air conditioned?

We select our hotels for their quality, impeccable service and comfort, with the majority of them having air-conditioning. Few hotels in the northern Alps or Europe have air conditioning due to the colder climate.

Can I book a group of friends?

Global Journeys take the hassle out of booking a group holiday - and we offer some great discounts for five or more people. Groups of five to eight people will receive 5% off the land-only part of their trip, and larger groups will save even more.

What is the single traveller supplement?

If you prefer the privacy of your own room, you can opt for our single supplement. The cost will depend on your trip and can be found in the pricing section of the itinerary. On many of our trips we offer discounts on the standard single supplement. If you'd rather not incur the additional expense, consider our single traveller room share option. We'll accommodate you with a fellow guest of the same gender, on a twin-bed basis.

What if I have special dietary requirements?

We can accommodate guests who are vegetarian and can assist with diabetic, gluten-free and other medically-recommended diets. Please advise us at time of booking. Unfortunately, we're unable to supply meals in accordance with strict religious requirements. We can't provide salt-free, Kosher, Halal, requests for specific dietary supplements such as soya milk, and high protein or low-carb meals.

How much luggage can I bring?

You can bring one suitcase per person with the dimensions of 76cm x 46cm x 25cm (30" x 18" x 10") and weight not exceeding 23kg (50 lbs) due to the limited space on the coach. You can also bring one piece of hand luggage, provided it is small enough to take on the coach and does not have telescopic handles. All baggage handling is provided at no extra charge. One suitcase per person will be brought to your hotel room.

Are tips included?

We'll check you in, look after your luggage and take care of all hotel porterage, tips and gratuities - whether it is for restaurant staff, chambermaids or porters. The option to pre-pay gratuities for the Travel Director and Driver is available. Please request this at the time of enquiry and your Tour Consultant will include it in your quote.

What is Gold Seal Protection?

Gold Seal Protection is designed to provide you with peace of mind. For $99 should you choose to cancel your guided holiday for any reason, prior to 30 days from departure date, Trafalgar will refund your deposit and/or guided holiday payment. Gold Seal Protection must be paid with the deposit and cannot be added at any later date. If you wish for us to include this protection in your quote, please let us know when completing your 'Quote Request'.

Will I need to pack formal clothes?

This will depend on not only your personal preference, but the destinations you're visiting and the time of year you'll be travelling. We'd recommend bringing at least one smart outfit for special evenings.

What are Optional Experiences and when can I book them?

We realise that everyone likes some time to themselves, which is why we've left free time on all of our itineraries. If you want to get the most out of your destination, our Optional Experiences let you tailor your trip. Your Travel Director will tell you about all of the Optional Experiences available on the first day of your trip. Payment can be made by credit card or cash.

Will I need electrical adaptors?

Electrical plugs and outlets differ throughout the world. We recommend bringing a universal travel adaptor that's suitable for the countries you are travelling to.

Will I be able to get laundry done?

Most hotels do offer a laundry service and in some cities Laundromats are also available. However, it's sensible to try and pack enough clothing to avoid having to do laundry, as it can sometimes be costly or inconvenient.

Is there seat rotation on the coach?

Yes, your Travel Director will implement a seat rotation system, whereby all guests will rotate their seats on the coach daily. This allows for everyone to experience the spectacular views from different seats, and you'll have a better opportunity to get to know your fellow travellers.

What if I become ill on my trip and am unable to continue?

Your Travel Director will assist you with a doctor's visit or hospitalisation should you require. Trafalgar has a dedicated Customer Care Department in Europe, or our Operations Department in the relevant country will contact you to offer assistance and advice, coordinate with your travel insurance company and keep in touch until you are able to re-join the trip or return home. This service is included in the cost of your trip; however it is not a replacement for travel insurance, which we strongly advise you to purchase.

Why is my contact information collected when I book?

There may be times when unforeseen events beyond our control impacttravel schedules and potentially disrupt cruises, tours, or packages. These include, but are not limited to, severe weather conditions, acts of nature, and government travel advisories. Under such circumstances, it is critical that Trafalgar be able to contact you immediately and reliably - including nights, weekends, and holidays - to make sure we've informed you of any possible changes to your travel.

What happens when you arrive at your destination, including information on airport transfers with Trafalgar
Transfers in Europe

All Trafalgar guests receive complimentary arrival and departure transfers by shuttle coach on the arrival and departure day of their guided holiday at specified times. Any guests whose flight times do not coincide with the shuttle coach transfer timings may choose to book and purchase a transfer. Additionally, guests arriving before or leaving after the scheduled holiday may also book and buy a transfer providing they also purchase the additional pre and post holiday hotel night(s) through Global Journeys & Trafalgar.

Trafalgar is pleased to offer complimentary airport transfers on our East Med itineraries, at any time either on the first or last day of the holiday or on other days in conjunction with pre and post trip accommodation booked through Global Journeys & Trafalgar.

Transfers in London

Transfers can be expensive, particularly between the airport and your London hotel. Trafalgar has negotiated special group transfer rates from London's Heathrow Airport to the door of your Trafalgar London hotel - $75 per person per single trip to/from Heathrow Airport. For passengers flying into London's Gatwick Airport, Global Journeys & Trafalgar recommend the Gatwick Express, for details visit the Gatwick Express website at: www.gatwickexpress.com

Trafalgar's Transfer Terms & Conditions
Transfers in Americas & Canada

With Trafalgar you will receive complimentary arrival and departure transfers on all holidays by shuttle, minivan, private car or taxi, between designated airports and hotels on the starting and ending day of your holiday. We regret that we are unable to provide complimentary transfers for anyone arriving before the scheduled starting day of the holiday and/or leaving after the scheduled ending day of the holiday. You may, however, purchase these transfers from Trafalgar provided that you also purchase your extra night(s) from Global Journeys & Trafalgar.

Transfers in Asia

Complimentary airport transfers are available on the arrival and departure days of your trip, if you have booked your flights through Global Journeys & Trafalgar.
