On The Go Tours FAQ's Some of the frequently asked questions On The Go Tours receive from their clients
Who travels with On The Go Tours?

On The Go group tours cater for everyone from 18 years old to 70+ and also welcome travellers as young as 16 when accompanied by an adult. They have no upper age limit, so they are a great choice for the young and the young at heart. On a typical tour departure, around 20% of the group will be aged under 35, with 25% aged 35-50, roughly 40% aged between 50 and 65, and finally 15% aged over 65.

An On The Go group mix is varied with singles, couples and groups of friends from an international mix of English-speaking countries from Australia and New Zealand to America and Canada, the UK and South Africa.

How much free time will I get on my trip?

When travelling with On The Go you will spend the days out sightseeing and enjoying lots of authentic cultural experiences. On The Go work their itineraries so that there is always at least an hour or two each day for travellers to unwind.

In some destinations they also include a day or two at leisure for you to enjoy the place as you wish. It will always be somewhere with lots on offer, whether that is a beach location providing sun, sea and sand, or a scenic spot where outdoor activities abound.

How many people will be on my trip?

Generally speaking group sizes with On The Go average 14-18 passengers with a maximum of 24. The time of year affects traveller numbers so if you prefer a smaller group size then consider low season travel. On The Go’s special festival and festive season departures may run with larger group numbers due to the one-off nature of the events, though often they will run two separate groups to ensure numbers are manageable.

Are there age restrictions?

The minimum age on a standard group tour is 18 years (or 16 years if accompanied by an adult) and there is no upper age limit. Anyone over the age of 65 will need to complete a Tour Suitability Form so that On The Go can make sure your chosen tour is right for you. On The Go also have a range of family holidays for those travelling with children from 5 upwards to 15 years, and a selection of teen tours for families travelling with children aged 12 and upwards.

Are there any addtionals costs beyond the trip price that I'll have to factor in?

Yes. For many On The Go tours sightseeing entrance fees and a group "tip kitty" are obligatory, and are payable upon commencement of your tour in-destination. Details of these costs are noted in the Exclusions Section of each tour itinerary & in the trip notes.

I’m a solo traveller – will I have to pay more?

On the majority of tours, On The Go run a non-compulsory single supplement. This means they will pair you up with another solo traveller of the same sex so you don't have to pay any supplements. On an average group tour with On The Go 40% of passengers travel solo, however, if there is not another solo traveller of the same sex to share with, you will get a room to yourself and On The Go will cover the difference.

On The Go also have a number of tours with departures on which you can have your own room at no extra cost.

What room types are available with On The Go?

On The Go trips are organised on a twin share basis with the option to book a single room for solo use. If you are travelling as a couple or pair of friends/family, you have the choice of a twin room (two single beds in one room) or a double room (one big bed in the room). If you are a solo traveller and happy to share, then you will be paired up with another solo traveller of the same sex in a twin room.

Alternatively, you can pay the single supplement and have a single room to yourself. Depending on the destination a single room could have a single bed or a double bed for sole occupancy.

What will the accommodation be like on my trip?

Typically, accommodation on an On The Go group tour is a mix of 3-4 star hotels and heritage properties with a local flavour. However, depending on the destination, accommodation standards do vary as On The Go seek out what they consider to be best value for you. On The Go aim for hotels which are well located, have rooms with en-suite bathrooms, offer WIFI, and more often than not a restaurant, bar and in some cases a pool.

On The Go aim to use 3 and 4 star hotels where they are reasonably priced and represent good value, and if this is not the case, they look for good value alternatives of a lower grading. In more remote areas accommodation choices are limited, but the upside is that you will get a real feel for the country staying at desert camps, locally-run guesthouses, homestays and houseboats.

Does On The Go cater for dietary requirements?

You will find a variety of meals included on your trip - it could be daily breakfast or welcome dinners at local restaurants. On The Go will always do their best to accommodate the needs of their travellers but in more remote and out-of-the-way places this is not always possible.

On The Go ask that anyone with a dietary requirement or with food allergies that inform their Global JOurneys consultant at the time of booking so that they have plenty of time to organise meals accordingly.

Handy tip - when you arrive in destination, ask your tour leader to write down your dietary requirements in the local language so that you can make yourself clearly understood when eating out away from the group.

How much baggage can I take on tour?

The lighter you can pack the better as no one wants to be bogged down by their luggage. Most airlines have a maximum luggage allowance of 23kg, however, on some domestic flights that are included in tours with On The Go you may only be able to travel with 15kg. If you can fit all that you need in a compact suitcase that weighs between 15-20kg then you will be fine on the vast majority of On The Go tours, and on some trip types you will be better off travelling with a backpack instead of a suitcase.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. You must take out adequate and suitable travel insurance in order to take part in a tour organised by On The Go. Clients are wholly responsible for arranging their own insurance and On The Go reserves the right to request a copy of your insurance policy and/or a receipt showing payment of the premium.

A suitable insurance policy should provide adequate cover for medical expenses arising through illness or accident prior to or during the holiday and loss of holiday monies through cancellation and curtailment of the holiday for insurable reasons. You must be satisfied that your insurance fully covers all your personal requirements including pre-existing medical conditions and ensure that there are no exclusion clauses limiting protection for the type of activities you will be undertaking during your tour.

How will I receive my travel documents?

All On The Go documentation is electronic, so you will be emailed a copy of your travel documents by Global Journeys.

Are On The Go tours guaranteed to depart?

Most On The Go group tours are guaranteed to depart as soon as two travellers are booked. On very few trips, this number rises to four, so for the most part all trips are guaranteed to run.

What happens if I cancel my trip?

Life can be unpredictable and On The Go understand that sometimes it’s necessary to change or delay your travel plans. On The Go have a Lifetime Deposit guarantee so you can book your tour safe in the knowledge that if you’re unable to travel, your deposit is fully transferable and will be held for an unlimited time.

You can also opt to transfer your deposit to a friend, family member or anyone of your choice who wants to travel with On The Go, giving you full flexibility and ensuring that your money will be well spent. Terms & Conditions apply.
