This tour is an excellent one for lovers of country music, rock, rhythm & blues and jazz. It's especially wonderful for Elvis fans, like myself! The pace is not an easy one; for example you have to negotiate many steps at the Gateway Arch, so a good level of fitness is required. Most of the people on this tour were in their 50s, 60s and early 70s. At 73 years, I was the second oldest. Consider myself reasonably active but don't think I would want to have done this tour in say, a couple of years from now. Some days, particularly those in Nashville and Memphis, were rather tiring, especially if you were doing the optional tours as well.

My group consisted of 27 Australians, 7 New Zealanders and 2 Brits. Suggest would-be single travellers think carefully before opting for shared hotel accommodation. Our tour guide, Brenda Brooks, was one of the best, as was driver Larue.

“8 Day New York , Niagara Falls, Philadelphia, Washington DC”
We would never have seen as much as we did if we travelled solo. It was exciting to see the places we have seen in movies and on the news etc. highlights were every day! But I must say the monuments in Washington were fantastic and very emotional. I,m keen to read more American history now.

Our tour mix was good, Americans, Australians, English and kiwis! A young schoolboy and his grandmother , young couples and older couples, families and single travellers. The ones we got to know the most were those who did the optional extras. Everyone was really looking out for each other and couples joined up with a single if they were going somewhere, it was a friendly bunch. The optional extras were good. Everyday we moved 4 rows which was good, gave us another view and we met a new person in the seats across the aisle!

The hotels were all very good. Only Niagara Falls had a fridge and a supermarket next door to buy real milk! The New York hotel had no beverage making facilities in the rooms. New York location fantastic, Niagara had a bus stop at the gate into the falls and you could purchase a daily pass , Philadelphia was in the city, Washington hotel was out of town in the most beautiful old town / suburb Alexandria.

Day 1 was a non event, we just got tour information handed to us. Everyone commented it would have been nice to have a social hour for people to introduce themselves etc especially as everyone staying in same hotel and get a short outline of the following day. At times it felt like we were asking the Tour Director what time do we meet etc . The Globus handbook for the tour could be written so that it could be used as a trip diary etc. Local guides in all places were really good. We had never been in a bus tour holiday before. We enjoyed it very much and will now probably do another one.

“Interesting Eastern European Tour”
Really enjoyed this Cosmos tour which included more evening meals than expected and great accommodation including a 5 star Sheraton in Bucharest and other hotels with full suites with separate Lounge-rooms. Buffet breakfasts were excellent. Our guide Kristina gave a very good commentary and was always available and helpful. The optional tours were quite expensive though. We have booked a number of Cosmos Tours through Hannah at Global Journeys and we have always been impressed with her service and expertise.

“Excellent overview of mainland Greece”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 4/5
I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Our tour guide was fantastic. He was a fountain of knowledge. He was extremely good to deal with. Nothing was too much trouble. He had a very happy disposition which made the tour very enjoyable. The sights were very good and the optional tours were excellent. The only thing that was a bit below par were a few of the hotels. The one in Kalambaka was very ordinary. Also the one in Olympia was just ok. The hotel in Athens was very good and the hotel in Nauplia was exceptional.

“Very good Fatima - Lourdes - Barcelona tour”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 5/5
Our main purpose of this trip was spending most of our time at Fatima Church and Lourdes in order to absorb the atmosphere of other pilgrimages. Orientation of each place in the afternoon when we arrived allowed us to familiarise ourselves with the big place so we could participate on the event of the first night, but fully involved with all of the church activities on the second day.

Another point was both hotels were located about 150 meters from the main entrance, so between the events, we could quickly walk back to the hotel, have a shower, or get changed, or have a rest, or even a diner, then return back to the church to participate with other events in no time. Visiting other different places gave us a more interesting trip.

“Spectacular Tour to the midnight sun!”
We thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Finland was okay but Norway was interesting with Norcap and Fjords being clearly the highlight. Inclusive breakfasts and dinners were of a high standard. City excursions were interesting but the optional excursion especially the tour of Narvic was not worth the money.

“14 Day Tour of Central Europe”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 5/5
This was my 5th tour with Cosmos, previous tours were in 1987 and 2001. They are fairly hectic at times especially if you go on the optional tours in the evening and there is an early start the next morning. I would highly recommend the optional evening tours as it is a really good way to mix with your fellow group members especially at the folklore and dinner evenings. My favourite is the Ziko's grill dinner in Berlin, this is the second or third time I have been there and it is a great fun evening with eating, drinking, singing and dancing. We did not want to leave when it was time to board the coach for the return trip to our hotel and on the coach the singing continued with the CD's played by our tour guide Anita. All the folklore and dinner evenings ended with everyone singing on the coach during the trip back to our hotel.

I found all the meals including breakfast and dinner (when provided) to be very good although some of the hotels were really busy at breakfast time with all the guests that were staying there. Our tour group consisted of people from the United States, Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, India, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, Hungary (the tour guide) and Italy (the tour driver), so it was a good mix I think. The age range was in the 50's and 60's bracket and we all mixed well together and were one big happy family at the end of the tour and very sorry to go our separate ways.

“Great Journey on Route 66 with excellent tour director and driver - Excellent Value”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 5/5
Our 16 day journey was really 14 days with only Checkin only on the first day and Checkout only on the last day. We were thrilled with all aspects of our Journey and believe it was excellent value. Starting from day 2 in Chicago the included and optional tours that we took all of expect the Hollywood optional tour were all great. The highlights for us were some of our optional extras such as the Sandia Peak Tram which was far better than we expected, the wonderful helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon, the Las Vegas the Show was a great dinner and show night despite a few of the actors not being the best match for the character they impersonated.

The Hoover Dam trip was very interesting. In hindsight I may have missed the Warner Studio tour but it was still interesting. After the trip we went to Universal Studios for a day and that is far better. We were very appreciate of the wonderful efforts of both our driver and tour guide who were very professional as well as friendly and extremely willing to help and explain. There were a few minor initial issues with booking details but all bookings worked smoothly. The accommodation was very good for the tour price. We would have no hesitation in recommending this tour to others.

“Spectacular scenery.”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 4/5
The trip on the whole was definitely worth the money. The scenery was spectacular and I suspect we went at the right time of year. The snow still on the mountains, the ice half melted, not particularly cold and the sky as blue as you could wish for.The guides on various parts of the tour all said the weather was as good as they have seen it, so we felt very privileged.

The only thing to be aware of is that there are a number of one night stays and early starts so can be a bit tiring. However doing the train / coach first means that there is plenty of time to relax on the ship. Yvonne at Global Journeys made all the booking process easy and trouble free, even though I live on the opposite side of the country.

“Great holiday. Highly recommended”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 5/5
We had a fabulous time. Our tour director Vedrana, was amazing. She was so informative and knowledgeable about everything we saw. The weather was brilliant, which made all our photos look like postcards. The Rocky mountaineer (Silver Leaf) was fantastic. The girls, Bec, Alex and Hannah, really looked after us. The food and drinks just kept coming. Our first day in Banff was picture perfect so we went up on the gondola because Vedrana said the weather wasn't going to be very good the next day (which was the day we were supposed to do the gondola), well the 2nd day in Banff snowed, and we were grateful of 2 things, one that we went up on the gondola the previous day, and two, that we saw it snow. We loved it.

Cosmos FAQ's

Some of the frequently asked questions Cosmos receive from their clients
Will I be travelling with people from other countries?

Cosmos is an international company. As such, you will be travelling with like-minded enthusiasts from countries as diverse as the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, as well as Europe and Asia regions.

What if I am travelling alone?

More than one third of Cosmos' clients travel alone. Because Cosmos strives to offer the best value for money, we feel it is unfair to charge an expensive single room supplement without offering an alternative. We therefore can provide clients with a 'guaranteed share' facility. This means that we charge singles the basic per person price and match up singles of the same gender in twin-bedded rooms. If we cannot find a roommate for a tour member who has booked on a 'guaranteed share' basis, we will absorb the single room supplement. For mutual comfort, we do adopt a no-smoking rule in shared rooms. 'Guaranteed share' cannot be offered for pre and post tour accommodation. 'Guaranteed share' basis is unavailable on certain vacations.

What is a single room supplement?

If you prefer the privacy of your own room, this can be arranged for you with an extra fee. Single supplement prices are listed on each itinerary page.

When can I expect to get my travel documents & itinerary?

Travel documents, including any air tickets, tour itinerary, hotel lists, and helpful hints and other information are sent approximately 20-30 days prior to your tour departure. Your Global Journeys Tour Consultant can organise these earlier if you are travelling before your holiday starts.

Am I expected to pay gratuities?

It is customary worldwide to pay tips to Tour Directors and Drivers on all international vacations and these are not included in your quote. The option to prepay these tips prior to departure is possible however. Please ask your Tour Consultant to include this in your quote. You will receive gratuity vouchers with your travel documents and all you need to do is give this to the Tour Director, Driver, Cruise Director at the end of the holiday.

How much luggage can I bring?

Porterage for one suitcase per person travelling is included in the holiday price. Airport and train station porterage is not included. Your single bag should not exceed the dimensions of 76 x 53 x 28cm (30" x 21" x 11") and weight of 22kg (50lbs). Carry-on luggage is limited to one bag per person travelling and must not exceed the dimensions of 30 x 28 x 14cm (12" x 11" x 6"). For safety reasons, wheeled carry on bags are not suitable and will not be permitted as hand luggage on the coaches. Carry-on bags must be small enough to store in overhead bins or under the seat of you.

Can I book optional excursions before travel?

You can pre purchase selected optional excursions for your tour between 90 and 10 days prior to departure, on departures which have been placed onto a "Guaranteed Departure" status. Your Global Journeys Tour Consultant will provide more information to you at the time.

What are the standard bed configurations?

Every effort is made to reserve only twin-bedding room. Occasionally, some hotels will only provide double-bedded rooms. These rooms will be allocated to couple where possible. If your preference is for a double bed, please request this at time of booking. Please note that as we do not own the hotels, and it is the hotels themselves that undertake the room allocation, double rooms are only a request and cannot be guaranteed.

Are there laundry facilities?

Most hotels offer a laundry service, however it can sometimes be costly. Alternatively, some cities offer Laundromats.

Is there Wi-Fi on the coach?

Cosmos coaches offer free wireless internet connection whilst touring. This allows you to browse online and share your experience with your friends and family back home. We need to highlight free wireless availability in coaches is not offered on local coaches used for transfers or occasionally for sightseeing tours. Wireless service is not available in some countries and certain regions of other countries that do not have Wi-Fi service coverage. Downloading is not available on the coaches but you can do this in the hotels. Please check with the hotel reception or concierge where the free Wi-Fi is located in each hotel.

What is SafetyNet Protection?

Cosmos is dedicated to ensuring your trip is worry and hassle free, even when booking. Should you be uncertain what your commitments will be leading up to your departure, Cosmos offer an optional SafetyNet Protection policy for an additional fee. Read more here.

I'm finding it difficult to match two tours together?

Have you considered pre or post tour accommodation? Cosmos offer fantastic rates hard to find elsewhere and this may enable you to select sequential tours with minimal disruption to your intended travel plans.

What does the tour cost include?

Our packages take in each destinations's most popular highlights. They are carefully planned to include visits to places of interest and panoramic drives through areas of natural beauty. There's so much for you to look forward to!

Why is my contact information collected when I book?

There may be times when unforeseen events beyond our control impacttravel schedules and potentially disrupt cruises, tours, or packages. These include, but are not limited to, severe weather conditions, acts of nature, and government travel advisories. Under such circumstances, it is critical that Cosmos be able to contact you immediately and reliably - including nights, weekends, and holidays - to make sure we've informed you of any possible changes to your travel.
