“Collette tour of Eastern European Capitals”
Trip:    Trip Date: 22/05/2017    Overall Rating: 5/5
The Collette tour went well. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see a little more of Eastern Europe. I think it was good value for the money, Eastern Europe seems to be quite a bit cheaper than other parts of Europe (excluding Berlin and Vienna which are more expensive).

Prague was really crowded at the major destinations eg the castle and Charles Bridge, it's a trendy youth destination it seems. I enjoyed all the other destinations however, especially Berlin which has its own vibe, Budapest (fabulous hotel overlooking the Danube), Krakow (less fast-paced, more quaint) and Warsaw (interesting, friendly and diverse).

It is a quite fast-paced tour, but the attractions and options they include are all good, as are the hotels, mostly excellent in fact. The only hotel I did not like was the Mecure Grand Biedermeier in Vienna, because I had a single bed with a particularly hard mattress. All the hotels were located very close to the "Old Town" parts of the cities which made getting around on your own very easy.

There were only a few Australians on the trip, it was mostly Americans but all lovely people and a nice group of only about 22. One elderly gentleman struggled quite a lot with walking distances, steps etc so probably not a tour recommended for less mobile travellers. There was quite a good variety in locations and activities, plus free time included. There were other singles and we did some things together which was nice.

  “Pacific Northwest & California”
Trip:    Trip Date: 30/08/2016    Overall Rating: 5/5
The guide and the driver both ensured a smooth tour and our needs were met. Collette is only new in Australia and we had not heard from them before but a number of other guests spoke very highly of the company which was reassuring. Probably the most enjoyable part of the tour was the whales we spotted along the coast which we watched for sometime. The tour manager Abby was a local and was very passionate about her home state and had a lot of interesting information and printouts which she shared with the group.

  “Wonderful trip of the Maritimes”
Trip:    Trip Date: 15/08/2016    Overall Rating: 4/5
The consultant that I dealt with over the phone was polite and very helpful. All queries were dealt with promptly. I hadn't heard of Collette tours until we were looking to do a Maritimes Tour. We were very impressed with the service and would look at touring with Collette again and I would recommend the company to friends. We loved the scenery (especially the Bay of Fundy and Hopewell Rocks) and the history of the Maritimes. We felt that in some places too much time was spent when there wasn't a lot to see. The hotels we stayed in were great. The farewell dinner and the lunch we had at The Cookhouse on the Bay of Fundy Trail were highlights. We met a lot of interesting people which also adds to the travel experience.

  “Discover Croatia”
Trip:    Trip Date: 28/04/2016    Overall Rating: 5/5
Our tour of Croatia & Slovenia was excellent, particularly because our tour guide was so experienced and spoke the language of the country we were visiting. The booking procedure was simple, the hotels were the best available in the area and the meals provided were excellent. Jovanka had a lot of information to give us about the areas we travelled through, both geographically and politically which added to our knowledge. She always made sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. There are several that spring to mind - climbing past the Plitvice Lakes in the pouring rain; exploring Dubrovnik and staying at the beautiful Valamar President hotel; dinner with the family in Cilipi and discovering the beautiful the city of Ljubljana. That was a complete surprise.

  “Diverse & Breathtaking”
Trip:    Trip Date: 23/04/2016    Overall Rating: 5/5
This tour was so diverse - the Grand Canyon was breathtaking but then so was Bryce Zion Monument Valley & Sedona in their own unique ways. My husband and I had a wonderful tour and could not fault anything. I would certainly recommend Collette to friends.

Collette's History

Collette is a third generation, family-owned travel company with their head office in the United States and local offices in Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom. From humble beginnings, Collette began running tours throughout New England and into Canada in 1918 and then, in 1927, the company transferred its base of operations to the New England Transportation Company Terminal in Providence, Rhode Island. When Dan Sullivan, Sr. purchased Collette it was a small company. Now, Collette employs hundreds of people around the world. So much has changed, but as the company thrives in its third generation of family ownership, the heart and soul of Collette remains the same.

Collette FAQ's

Some of the frequently asked questions Collette receive from their clients
What is the difference between a twin room and a double room?

A double room is designed to accommodate two people, but may not have two separate beds. A twin bedded room has two separate beds of any size, and is the type most commonly utilised.

What size is a triple room?

A triple room is the same size as a twin bedded room and beds will accommodate three people, but we cannot guarantee three separate beds. If there are only two beds, a rollaway may be requested but cannot be guaranteed due to size of room and fire codes.

Can my children travel on tour with us?

Children over the age of 5 may travel on a Collette tour accompanied by an adult. Child land rates are valid for ages 5-12, sharing a room with two full-paying adults. If you are travelling with a child, it is your sole responsibility to ensure the child follows all safety rules of the tour.

Are single and triple rooms always available?

Triple and single rooms are limited and are available on a first come, first served basis. Be advised that single rooms are often smaller.

When can I check into my hotel?

Normal check-in time is late afternoon. If you do have an early arrival, rooms may not always be available for immediate check-in.

Can we book both flights & air with Collette?

Collette is happy to assist you in accommodating your flight needs. Due to tour scheduling and limited availability, you are strongly encouraged to take advantage of Collette's air packages. Collette are not responsible for air arrangements you have made on your own. On occasion, it is necessary to change tour dates. In this case, Collette only protect air reservations booked through Collette (by Global Journeys). For all air reservations, it is strongly recommended to reconfirm flights before departure, in the event that the airline has an unexpected schedule change. Collette do not assume responsibility for schedule changes, routings or flight cancellations involving the airlines.

Are attractions always available?

Access to some attractions or sites may be affected by local holidays, weather conditions or other circumstances. As a result, the days and order of sightseeing may change to best utilise your time on tour. Boat rides are weather permitting. Some attractions may not be available during the "off-season" months. When attractions are unavailable, other similar attractions will be substituted. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed.

Is there a lot of walking on tour?

Collette itineraries include many activities and some may consist of walking on uneven terrain or significant walking at times. Some of the most unique sightseeing can mean accessing locations that restrict coaches. Some hotels/lodges in remote locations may not have elevators. For your comfort, Collette recommend bringing walking shoes.

What is not included in the tour price?

The land price does not include air travel, airline fees, airport or departure taxes, transfers, visas, customary end-of-trip gratuities for your tour manager, driver, local guides, hotel housekeepers, cruise ship waitstaff, and any incidental charges.

Where do I meet my tour manager?

Your Collette tour manager will make contact with you at your first hotel. The hotel's address and phone number will be included in your documents.

What are optional experiences and when can I book them?

Yes, the majority of optional excursions and activities are available for advance purchase provided that you make your options purchase 15 days or more prior to the tour start date. There are benefits to prepurchasing options including a price guarantee once your tour is paid in full, so once payment is received in full, your preselected options are guaranteed by Collette. Although you can still purchase options while on tour, reserving them ahead of time ensures you a spot in the event that the activity sells out. Collette will provide a refund if you cancel a presold option prior to tour departure. Any presold options cancelled while on tour are nonrefundable.

Would my tour date ever be changed?

While it is unlikely, Collette does reserve the right to cancel any tour prior to departure. Should this happen, Collette will make every effort to put you on another departure date. If an alternate cannot be found, a full refund will be made. Air booked through Collette will be protected. Collette cannot be held responsible for penalties incurred if you secure your own flights.

Will I be able to get laundry done?

Most hotels do offer a laundry service and in some cities Laundromats are also available. However, it's sensible to try and pack enough clothing to avoid having to do laundry, as it can sometimes be costly or inconvenient.

Can I make changes to my reservation?

Should you decide to change your reservation after initial booking, Collette charge a handling fee of $25 per transaction. A change of tour date or tour itinerary within the guidelines of the cancellation policy will be treated as a cancellation and regular cancellation fees may apply.
