Juliet's Tour of Croatia and Slovenia with Globus

I've just returned from spending 11 days travelling through Croatia & Slovenia with Globus on their The Croatian tour.

My first trip with Globus, we began our travels in Zagreb, travelled to Slovenia where we were based in the gorgeous capital of Ljubljana. From therewe visited the fairytale-like Lake Bled, Postojna Caves and Predjama Castle. Then back into Croatia where we visited the UNESCO World Heritage listed Plitvice Lakes. Finally along the Dalmatian coast to Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik. Below I've listed just some of our highlights...

Postojna Caves

The Postojna Caves were an absolute highlight. This popular Slovenian attraction can only be entered by train. Jump on and enjoy a 3km journey into the underground network of galleries and halls. From there you will enjoy a guided walking tour to learn about the largest, 16-metre-high skyscraper, the crystal white symbol of Postojna Cave, the oldest underground post office in the world and the most famous underground animal – the human fish. The cave has a constant temperature of 8 degrees Celsius so be sure to take a warm jacket through your underground adventure.

Plitvice National Park

Plitvice National Park is stunning. It is one of the oldest and largest National Parks in Croatia and has now been added to the UNESCO World Heritage register. The forest and lakes are surrounded by amazing waterfalls. The boardwalks guide you through the park and at the end of the trip a small boat ride across the lake ends your tour. I recommend putting this park on your bucket list. It is European nature at its best!

Ruins in Zadar

Zadar is the launch point for ferries out to the islands, but it is also full of history, having been a trading port for almost 3000 years. The cathedral and Roman forum date back to the 4^th century, and the cobbled streets have a very Venetian feel. Zadar is a great place to explore the markets and soak up some history.

The Promenade in Split

Between the harbour and Diocletian Palace, the Promenade is full of markets, restaurants and cafes, and is buzzing all day and night. The promenade is where everyone goes to see and be seen, and is the perfect spot for people watching over a coffee, cocktail or gelato.

Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is a popular Croatian city on the Adriatic sea and it’s easy to see why! You can get your fix of history in the old walled city and balance it out with relaxation on the beaches. The old town is beautiful and you will never see anything else like it. During the day, thousands of cruise ship passengers descend on the city, so early mornings and evenings are the best times to explore the city. The walk of the ancient walls gives you views of the narrow streets and lively squares. This takes approximately 2 hours for a 2km walk but it is so worth it. The Cable Car is also a must do as it gives you the best views of Dubrovnik and the surrounding area. Dubrovnik is also a great gateway to many islands so there is so much to see and do. Make sure you take a dip in the Adriatic Sea while you are there. For a break from the crowds, take a 10 minute ferry ride from the old port to Lokrum Island for snorkeling and hiking. As the last city on the tour, you can take a few extra days of R&R on the beach at one of the hotels just outside the old city.

Globus never disappoints! They always exceed expectations. The coach was clean and comfortable and the accommodation was always of a high standard in a central location. Our Tour Director Janja was the best director I've have ever had on a tour. She was always one step ahead of the group and what they needed, making our experience relaxing and hassle free. The itinerary and travel distances were perfect. Croatia is a beautiful country with diverse scenery and I'd highly recommend anyone who wants to see the Dalmatian Coast to consider The Croatian itinerary.
