Spend a day of exploration in Fishguard, one of the twin towns in North Pembrokeshire, surrounded by the sea, towering cliffs, the Preseli Hills, valleys and ancient standing stones. (B/L/D)

St Mary’s is the gateway to the rest of the smaller isles of Scilly. Only 50 kilometres (30 miles) off the coast of England, the islands are covered in green pastures and white beaches. Wander around the winding paths of of Hugh Town, a central hub with many charming shops. (B/L/D)

Plymouth is a vibrant waterfront city in Devon, on England’s south coast. The major shipping port has a long history handling imports and passengers from the Americas and the construction of battleships for the Royal Navy. After the Plymouth Blitz of World War II, the damaged city was completely rebuilt. HMNB Devonport remains the largest operational naval base in Western Europe. (B/L/D)

Built on a rock standing in a naturally defensive position, Saint-Malo is best known as being a breeding ground for privateers. This resilient walled city has been an important stop for many over centuries. (B/L/D)

Ouessant Island, the most westerly point of mainland France, is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve whose landscape is carved by the Atlantic waves and wild wind. Home to thousands of sea birds, it has been continuously inhabited since prehistoric times, with women dedicated to farming while the men were fishermen and sailors. (B/L/D)

The ‘blue town’ of Brittany, Concarneau is steeped in maritime history, with a canning industry, fishing museum and walls and fortifications overlooking the bay. Since the 16th century siege by Duguesclin, the town has maintained its taste for adventure. Don’t miss the neo-Gothic Keriolet Castle, built in the 19th century by a Russian princess. (B/L/D)

Arrive in this major seaport near Porto, at the mouth of the Douro river. Located near vineyards, this beautiful baroque city is home to colourful houses decorated in traditional Portuguese tiles, Gothic cathedrals, modern street art and fado restaurants serving delicious food and its best-known export, Port wine.
