Learn about the Incas' struggles with the invading Spaniards on your tour of Cusco and visit the Temple of Sacsayhuaman, built in the early 12th century with some stones weighing more than 350 tons. Try to figure out how it was built so precisely without the help of modern machinery and technology! Of course, no vacation to Peru is complete without visiting Machu Picchu. Built around 1450 at the height of the Inca Empire, Machu Picchu is located in a gorgeous mountain setting above the Urubamba Valley. Stand in awe as you witness it - it is one of the most majestic images in all of South America!

Not only will you visit the must-see sights, you'll also have an opportunity to learn about Peruvian life. Experience a Mother Earth ceremony performed by a local shaman, stop at a local Peruvian food market, and visit a home to meet some of the locals and experience their way of life. In the Peruvian Jungle, you'll learn about medicinal uses of the area's endemic plants.

Conclude your holiday by cruising through the Galápagos Islands in Ecuador, where you will witness red and blue-footed boobies, frigatebirds, sea lions, land iguanas, and much more. Welcome to Lima! Meet your Monograms representative at your hotel.

LIMA: Fly to Puerto Maldonado.

PUERTO MALDONADO: Motorboat ride up the Madre de Dios River to view the exotic wildlife. Arrive at your Amazon Jungle lodge.

HACIENDA CONCEPCION: Nature walk through the rainforest led by an expert Naturalist. Nighttime canoe ride with your Naturalist to search for nocturnal animals of the Amazon. (B/L/D)

HACIENDA CONCEPCION: This morning, a nature walk through Tambopata National Reserve and a canoe ride around Lake Sandoval with your Naturalist in search of native flora and fauna. This afternoon, explore the rainforest on a Canopy Walkway suspended 100 feet from the ground. After night falls, your Naturalist introduces you to the nocturnal animals of the Amazon. (B/L/D)

HACIENDA CONCEPCION: Boat ride to a local farm to learn about the various crops grown in the region. This afternoon, visit a clay lick to observe wildlife from a blind to see the normal routine of fauna without disrupting their environment. (B/L/D)

PUERTO MALDONADO: Return to Puerto Maldonado and fly to Lima.

LIMA: Meet your Tour Director at the hotel this evening. (B)

LIMA: Guided sightseeing includes the Plaza de Armas, the Government Palace, Cathedral, and San Francisco Monastery. Tastings at a Peruvian food market. Welcome dinner at a local restaurant. (B/D)

LIMA: Fly to Cusco.

SACRED VALLEY: Participate in an El Pago a la Tierra (Mother Earth Ceremony) with local shaman. Visit Awanakancha to see a pre- Columbian weaving demonstration, and llamas, alpacas, guanacos, and vicunas. Free time for shopping Pisac's famous market. (B/L/D)

SACRED VALLEY: Visit to the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo and a local Peruvian home. Scenic ride on the Vistadome Train through the Urubamba Valley.

MACHU PICCHU: Guided sightseeing at Machu Picchu. Dinner at your nearby hotel. (B/D)

MACHU PICCHU: Second included entrance to Machu Picchu. Afternoon train to the Sacred Valley. Transfer to Cusco. (B/L)

CUSCO: Guided sightseeing includes visits to the Cathedral and Santo Domingo Monastery. Traditional Pasacalle (Andean Parade) and visits to Kenko Amphitheater and the Temple of Sacsayhuaman. Free time this afternoon before a farewell dinner. (B/D)

QUITO: Fly to Baltra.

SANTA CRUZ: Drive to the highlands of Santa Cruz Island and visit the Tortoise Reserve where giant tortoises are found in their natural habitat. Embark the Galapagos Legend for your 3-night cruise. (B/L/D)

GENOVESA ISLAND: Your Naturalist guided tour take you up Prince Philip's Steps, where you will see large nesting colonies of Nazca and red-footed boobies. Wedge-rumped storm-petrels can be and, if you're lucky, you may catch a glimpse of a short-eared Owl. After lunch on board, visit Darwin Bay to observe frigatebirds, red-footed boobies, herons, lava gulls, and many other bird species. (B/L/D)

SANTA CRUZ ISLAND: Guided walk around a brackish lagoon where feeding flamingos are often found. Climb Dragon Hill, an important nesting ground for endemic land iguanas, offering lovely views of the neighbouring islands. The forest is home to mockingbirds, Darwin's finches, yellow warblers, and Galapagos doves.

SANTE FE ISLAND: See a large sea lion colony greets you on its white- sand beach. Walk through a cactus forest in search of the endemic Santa Fe land iguana, the largest in the islands. This island is home to a number of endemic species, including the Galapagos hawk, Galapagos snake, a variety of finches, and one of the four species of Galapagos mockingbirds. (B/L/D)

MOSQUERA ISLET: This flat, sandy island has a large colony of sea lions and is an excellent site for observing shorebirds such as herons and lava gulls. Take a dip in the waters and snorkel to see the abundant sea life.

BALTRA: Fly to Guayaquil.
