Itinerary

Check into your hotel. Take advantage of any free time to explore lively Madrid with the help of the CosmosGO app. Tonight, meet your Tour Director and travel companions. (D)

Spaniards say the Spanish capital, situated 2,180 feet above sea level, is the nearest thing to Heaven. It's certainly worth making the most of today by joining the included guided sightseeing tour: a full panoramic drive by way of the Calle Alcalà, Parliament Square, and a picture stop outside the Royal Palace. The optional trip to Toledo is most rewarding, too. The splendid setting of this old walled city above the Tagus was made famous in El Greco's painting, and even now it's like a great open-air museum of Spanish history and art. (B)

Visit ancient, fortified Avila with its many towers, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue to Salamanca and make sure you spend some time wandering around Plaza Mayor, the grandest square in Spain. Cross the border to Guarda, one of the most important strongholds in a set of fortifications which defended the Portuguese against Castile and Leon during the Middle Ages. From here, descend to the valleys of the Serra da Estrela to Coimbra. Today's Distance: 329 mi/ 530 km (B/D)

Enjoy an orientation tour of Coimbra, celebrated for its beauty and ancient university. Later, travel southward to visit the Sanctuary of Fatima, one of Europe's most visited Marian shrines. Continue to picturesque fortified Obidos, before reaching Lisbon for two overnights. Today's Distance: 168 mi/ 270 km (B)

On the included guided city tour, see the monument dedicated to Henry the Navigator, the Belem Tower, the Moorish Citadel, and the impressive Commerce Square, also known as Black Horse Square, facing the Tagus river. Spend the afternoon at leisure- maybe in the Alfama's tile-decorated streets, or take an optional excursion to the Portuguese Riviera. (B)

From the rolling plains of the Alentejo with its woodlands of cork and eucalyptus trees, head south to the brilliant light of Andalusia. Admire its neat, white-painted villages and sundrenched plantations of olives, figs, and almonds while travelling towards magnificent Seville. Today's Distance: 261 mi/ 420 km (B/D)

Enjoy an included sightseeing tour of this vibrant city. Walk in the city centre, see some of the main highlights and spend time to admire the impressive Plaza d'Espana. Admire the banks of tiles representing the provinces of Spain. A frequent ritual for Spanish visitors is to look for the space dedicated to their province to take photographs. You may want to do the same with the one you enjoyed the most so far. Afternoon at leisure. (B)

Drive through Spain's scenic sherry wine region and head south to the coast. Here, embark the ferry and cruise across the Strait of Gibraltar to Morocco on the African continent. Travel along what was once the infamous Barbary Coast, then continue the drive south to Rabat, one of Morocco's imperial cities. Today's Distance: 311 mi/ 500 km (B/D)

Join the included guided city sightseeing tour of the country's lively capital, Rabat, with a visit to Chellah Gardens and Kasbah des Oudaias. Later, reach Morocco's westernmost city: Casablanca. Enjoy an orientation drive of this modern city and see the illustrious Hassan II Mosque. One of the largest mosques in the world, its minaret soars 689 feet into the sky. Continue on to the "red" oasis city of Marrakesh. An optional excursion this evening is the perfect ending of the day. Today's Distance: 227 mi/ 365 km (B)

Today's included city sightseeing tour with a Local Guide will make you feel like you've stepped back in time. Founded in the 9th century, Marrakesh remains a tapestry of ramparts, mosques, palaces, gardens, and vibrant public squares and souks (markets)- where buying and selling and a fascinating carnival of entertainment occurs daily. Also visit the Bahia Palace and Majorelle Gardens. (B/D)

Today, travel through the fragrant cedar forests of the Middle Atlas Mountains, where a number of peaks soar above 13,000 feet in elevation. This range is home to the endangered Barbary apes, wild boars, and polecats. On your way north to Fez, enjoy glimpses of North African village life. Today's Distance: 311 mi/ 500 km (B/D)

Ancient Fez is a city of outstanding scenic beauty. Visit the Medina during the included sightseeing tour this morning and enjoy the maze of narrow streets through the brilliant bazaars and exotic atmosphere. The madrasas, fondouks, palaces, residences, mosques, and fountains dating back to the 13th century are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, explore further on your own. (B)

Today, an early departure takes you north for the ferry crossing back to mainland Spain to the Costa del Sol. Overnight in Mijas. Today's Distance: 323 mi/ 520 km (B/D)

Travel along the Costa del Sol to Granada in the heart of Andalusia. Enjoy an included guided visit of the Alhambra Complex*, a lavish palace and fortress built by Moorish kings. Marvel at its architectural beauty and magnificent gardens, with construction dating back to 889 AD. Today's Distance: 96 mi/ 155 km (B/D) *Alhambra complex: Entrance to Nasrid Palace is not guaranteed

On your way to Madrid, travel through the very heart of La Mancha region. It was described by Miguel de Cervantes in his 17th-century novel "Don Quixote". Visitors to the region today still can encounter the 16th-century windmills at which Cervantes's fictional would-be knight-errant "tilted," believing them to be gigantic rivals. In addition to its association with Cervantes, La Mancha is well known for its wines. Today's Distance: 267 mi/ 430 km (B)

Way to go!   0 , SA, Australia, Oct 2023
Leaving Madrid and our first walled city of Avila, cobblestones, churches and overlapping cultures, was the start of journey through Spain, Portugal and Morocco to beautiful Lisbon and Seville, the mysteries of Morocco and the opulence of the Alhambra Palace in Granada. It is hard to pick one thing out as a highlight. The tour covered the countries ...read more and Cosmos looked after you. Some free time for the more independent traveller but great tour leader, drivers and comfy Coach, to make for easy travel. The wifi was a bonus.
Great tour with excellent local guides and tour host 0 , QLD, Australia, Jul 2023
A great tour with a fantastic and knowledgeable tour guide. Excellent local guides throughout the three regions also. Hotels got better as the tour went on, however all hotels have a bath in the shower, so space is limited. Meals were reasonably good but at least 2 buffet breakfasts were jam packed with people due to multiple tour groups staying at ...read more the same hotel in Spain on the first couple of days of the tour.

The tour is fast paced so if you include all optional activities be prepared to not have a lot of free time. The main issue for me on this tour was due to the regions not getting dark until later in the evening all dinners were served at 7:30pm or 8pm. I normally eat at 6pm so the dinners were a little late for me. At least three very long bus days too (approximately 500 kms each day). All in all a great experience visiting three amazing regions, Spain, Portugal and Morocco. Airconditioning throughout and apart from Morocco free WIFi on the coach throughout. Great drivers also, very safe.
Interesting Tour 2 , NSW, Australia, Dec 2022
A really good tour and our tour guide, Graham, was a gem. He was full of information and helpful tips, ensured that all went well and looked after us all from start to finish. The accommodation was a mix of room styles and a few were that small that a prison cell would have been larger. However, that is Europe and that is the way it is. The plumbing ...read more in Morocco is definitely something to behold. There were some long days on the bus but it gave you a chance to catch up on some sleep.

The cities we visited in Spain and Portugal were all very interesting and there was sufficient free time to enable you to explore. Morocco was neither here nor there and for me, I would have been happy to give Morocco a miss and spend the extra time in Spain and Portugal. I was a solo traveller but found that I was with a good group of people and we had lots of fun and laughter on the tour. All in all I had a good time and would repeat the tour again but without the Morocco part.
Spain, Portugal & Morocco   2 , BC, Canada, Oct 2022
It was my first bus trip and found it to be way more bus time then I thought. Lots of 11 hour days. Got to room so late couldn't enjoy the pool or amenities. Adding Morocco just made it too much travel. I was left to figure out visas and got a health card entry for $36 and didn't even need it for Morocco. Felt the company Cosmos could have stated what ...read more I needed for each country without me having to do it on line myself. A bathroom on the bus would have been so great. Couldn't drink the water I wanted. On a good note. Tour director was awesome. Very knowledgeable and great stories. Bus drivers were amazing. Saw a lot. Food for most part was good. Buffet breakfasts were great. Found out as they say “its a bus tour not a vacation. “ No sleep in days and tour in afternoon.
Tour through Spain, Portugal and Morocco 6 , NSW, Australia, Nov 2019
Overall, a great experience, and all of us had a lot of fun. The tour director and driver were both excellent. There was lots to see and do, and expert guides to explain the significance of various landmarks. On the flip side, several days had only half-day activities, leaving us to fend for ourselves for the remainder of the day. The drive through ...read more the High Atlas Mountains was cancelled, ostensibly because of bad weather. On my previous Cosmos tour, they cancelled the Rhine cruise. In my opinion, if they cancel something, the customers need to get some money back. Finally, there was too much time spent with vendors trying to sell us something... Argan oil, leather goods, textiles, carpets, herbal medications, etc.
What a wonderful fun and cultural experience   1 , NSW, Australia, Nov 2019
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour in Spain, Portugal and Morocco... it started on the first night meeting our tour guide Julian who welcomed us all and ensured we mixed with our other travellers.
