Arrive In Oslo, Norway
Welcome to Oslo, ancient capital of Norway! At 6 pm, meet your travelling companions for a welcome dinner at your hotel. (D)
2
Oslo
Today gives you a proper introduction to Oslo, the country's hub of trade and industry. Sightseeing with a Local Guide features the National Theatre, considered the home for Ibsen's plays; the unique Storting building, seat of Parliament; and the Royal Palace, residence of Norwegian monarchs since 1849. Stroll through magnificent FROGNER PARK with Gustav Vigeland's extraordinary sculptures; and visit the CITY HALL/ where the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony is held each year. Afterwards, an optional excursion is available to see relics of Norway's glorious seafaring past-including 1,000-year-old Viking ships! (B)
3
Oslo - Borgund - Flam
Depart the city and drive northwest through Hallingdal, a large valley with rich traditions in iron production, cattle trade, and typical folk art, music, and dance. Visit the BORGUND STAVE CHURCH, dating back to 1180. Then, travel through the world's longest road tunnel (15 miles- 25.4 kilometres) to Aurland, and arrive in the picturesque village of Flåm, situated at the head of Aurlandsfjord. You may wish to join an exciting optional cruise on the famous Nærøyfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (B/D)
4
Flam - Myrdal - Voss - Hardangerfjord
This morning, experience a breathtaking ride on the FLÅM RAILWAY, which passes through 20 tunnels and climbs to an elevation of 864 metres (2,833 feet). Along the way, stop for pictures at Kjosfossen waterfall. At Myrdal mountain station, change trains and continue on the scenic Bergen Railway to Voss. Here, board your coach and head south, crossing Hardanger Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. Continue along the shore and arrive at the historic Ullensvang Hotel in its idyllic setting between the mountains and the Hardangerfjord. It was here that composer Edvard Grieg wrote his most famous pieces- and his cabin still stands in the hotel gardens. (B/D)
5
Hardangerfjord - Utne - Steinsdalsfoss - Bergen
Nature's splendour is on full display today, as you travel south around Sørfjord and then north to the peaceful village of Utne. Cross the fjord by FERRY, and continue your journey on the Hardanger National Tourist Road to Norheimsund. Stop at the majestic Steinsdalsfossen waterfall, where a trail leads you behind the cascading falls without getting wet. Later, arrive in lovely Bergen, the "City of Seven Mountains," founded in 1070. An orientation drive shows you Bergenhus Fortress with its medieval Håkon's Hall and Rosenkrantz Tower; the charming Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; the harbour; and the famous Fish Market. Tonight, why not sample regional dishes at a traditional restaurant? (B)
6
Bergen
Step back in time and explore Bryggen on a guided walking tour along narrow, cobblestone alleyways past colourful wooden houses. Also see the 12th-century St. Mary's Church, where Hanseatic merchants attended religious services until the 1870s. For a bird's-eye view of Bergen and its magnificent surroundings, ride the FLØIBANEN FUNICULAR up to Mount Fløyen. Tonight, celebrate your unforgettable trip with a farewell dinner at the hotel. (B/D)

Booking With Global Journeys
This trip was called "Best of Norway" and it certainly didn't disappoint. We were blessed with good weather, which enhanced our appreciation of the natural beauty of this country. There was 'wow' factor every day. Highlights included the Flam Railway trip, the circular drive around the Hardangarfjord, which is the second longest fjord in Norway and the rail trip back to Oslo from Bergen. The road was at times high with many hairpin bends, but thanks to the expertise of our driver, Simon, we were able to relax and thoroughly enjoy the incredibly beautiful scenery.

The optional cruise on the Aurlandsfjord, an arm of the Sognefjord (the largest in Norway) at Flam, is a must, especially if the weather is fine and clear. The accommodation was of a high standard. A special treat was a stay at the historic hotel in Ullensvang, which is situated in an idyllic setting between the snow capped mountains (even in summer) and the Hardangerfjord. Another optional tour - a bus trip to the hills behind Oslo, followed by a harbourside dinner, was also well worthwhile.

Be aware that Norway is an extremely expensive place, so I believe this tour is reasonably priced. A lovely touch by Globus was to include a glass of wine on the nights that an evening meal was included. There was a great balance between organised tours and free time. Thanks to our guide, Peter, for his knowledge and courtesy. Top marks Globus for this itinerary and top marks Georgie for her usual efficiency in arranging our booking.

Booking With Global Journeys
I added this tour to my Cosmos 16 day 'Northern Highlights & Arctic Circle' tour because it visited a part of Norway which was not covered in the Cosmos tour. I thoroughly enjoyed this short Globus tour as it had a good itinerary & visited some very scenic areas of Norway. However, I felt that it was not as good value for money as other Globus tours that I have enjoyed over the years. The Hotels ( & included breakfasts & meals) on several nights, were of a very average standard & in my opinion, not as good generally as those I had just experienced on my budget- priced Cosmos tour in the same country. Also the extension, back to Oslo from Bergen, would have been a more pleasurable experience by coach rather than train. The optional excursion from Bergen to the home of Edward Grieg was a real highlight & should be included in future tours.

I have booked several holidays through Global Journeys over past years & always found the company & its representatives to be knowledgeable, efficient & pleasant. I would recommend this company to anyone interested in good value, hassle-free travel arrangements. (GJ: Thanks Barbara!)
