Itinerary

Check into your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to start exploring this great city. Take advantage of your CosmosGO app to explore on your own before you meet your Tour Director and travel companions in the evening.

This morning, wear an apron and become chef for a day. Attend a cooking class and learn how to prepare a sumptuous Italian lunch. Judge the results of your fruitful morning by sitting around a table enjoying this meal with your fellow "master chefs." The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to discover the fascinating city of Rome. (B/L)

Leave Rome this morning to reach the lively Sorrento coast. On the way, visit a family-run vineyard, set on the foot of Mount Vesuvius, and indulge in an included local lunch, complete with wine pairing.

Today's distance: 174 mi/280 km (B/L/D)

Few places in the world match the very special charm of Sorrento. This picturesque resort overlooking the Bay of Naples boasts a lovely climate, beautiful views, trendy shops and boutiques, interesting museums, and a vibrant nightlife, especially during the summertime. This morning, join the walking orientation of the town centre, and learn about authentic gelato.

There will be a demonstration on how ice cream and sorbet are prepared, and some hints on how to make it at home. You will, of course, have the opportunity to taste some of the many varieties available in the shop. This evening, we suggest an optional dinner at a local farm, featuring dishes prepared with traditional ingredients. (B)

This morning, set off to discover the spectacular Amalfi coast, a winding coast with many clifftop villages and unbeatable views. Stop in the popular jet-set destination of Positano, a pastel-hued cascade of chic boutiques and sun-kissed sunbathers. Later, take a short ferry ride to legendary Capri. Enjoy free time to relax and enjoy this spectacular island on your own.

Tonight, enjoy an included dinner at a local restaurant where you will be served Torta Caprese for dessert. The chef will explain how this special cake is made, and you will be able to "steal" the personal recipe. (B/D) Today's Distance by coach: 19 mi/ 30 km

This is another day for you to take advantage of the unique beauty of Capri at leisure or to discover its treasures and traditions on the optional island tour, focusing on all the main sights and on the light lunch based on local street food specialties, crowned with a limoncello tasting session. (B)

Say goodbye to Capri and board a ferry to Naples. Naples is the capital of espresso coffee and pizza, among many other delicacies. This morning you'll have the opportunity to see the main highlights of this lively city in the company of a Local Guide. After the sightseeing tour, indulge in an included authentic Neapolitan pizza lunch at a local restaurant. Say arrivederci to bustling Naples and drive back to Rome.

Enjoy some time sightseeing on your own or join the optional food tour to discover some hidden treasures of the capital city of Italy, as well as some of its signature gourmet specialities. Today's Distance: 140 mi/ 227 km (B/L)

Your holiday ends with breakfast this morning. (B)

Southern Italy Surprises   1 , VIC, Australia, Sep 2019
In reality 2 tours with 2 different tour coaches and directors. First observation is that September is now pretty much part of high season, so perhaps these days the slowdown really starts towards the end of September. Tour 1 was Rome and Amalfi Coast area. Hotel in Rome not great but close to Villa Borghese museum (100% must see) and bus lines to ...read more take you to the heart of Rome. Optional excursion to Tivoli Gardens a must do. Sorrento and Amalfi Coast are tourist ghettos but still worth seeing once. Hotel in Sorrento OK. Anacapri and Isle of Capri lovely and hotel was great. First tour director not really that helpful.

Tour 2 was the Sicily extension - a really good tour. Sicily is unspoilt and shows a more traditional part of Italy with lovely scenery. Second Tour Director and the hotels were good. The optional Sicilian restaurant nights were good fun. We jumped off the tour after the Naples guided walk and spent 4 days in Naples. An incredible city, great fun, so much grand history and energy . Don't believe any bad press about Naples, no worse than any other big city, we could have spent a week in Naples.
A busy but really interesting tour especially the Amalfi Coast and Sicily   1 , NSW, Australia, May 2019
This was a tour of contrasts - the wonderful history and culture of Rome and the amazing scenery of the Amalfi Coast and Sicily. The tour split at Sorrento when some people returned to Rome with the original tour director and more people joined us with a new tour director. We would have preferred to keep one group constant for the whole tour.

Hotel ...read more accommodation was very good, a standout being the Hotel San Michele at Anacapri, where we had a magnificent position overlooking the sea, and the whole island of Capri was breathtaking. Sicily was so beautiful! We enjoyed the overnight ferry crossing from Palermo to Naples, the hilltown of Erice was charming and such fun to ride up in a cablecar, and Taormina was very pretty, the Roman villa at Piazza Armerina and the Greek temples were stupendous.

We had quite a bit of rainy weather but we still managed to enjoy all the sights! The drive around the Amalfi Coast was stunning. Well done to Cosmos for an enjoyable tour! And Georgie at Global Journeys made our bookings with efficiency and friendliness.
A great introduction to southern Italy 0 , NSW, Australia, Sep 2018
Nicely paced tour - not hectic at all, plenty of time to do our own thing. A few hotels need improving but overall a great experience. Would've loved if Sicily was also included in this tour.
Southern Italy and Sicily 4 , NSW, Australia, Sep 2018
The tour was divided into two sections with a different tour director for both tours. The first tour of Rome, Capri and Naples was relaxing with more than one night in each location. The highlight was the two nights on the Island of Capri. The second tour of Sicily flowed seamlessly on from the first tour. This tour covered more territory with shorter ...read more stays in each location. A highlight was the visit to the active volcano Mount Etna.
Great Tour with Some Fantastic Travellers 1 , WA, Australia, Apr 2017
Our experience with Global Journeys was excellent. Hannah kept us up to date with our booking and our paperwork arrived well before we departed which meant we could check it over and research optional tours. Cosmos was also very good and we were lucky enough to have a group of travellers that got on extremely well and we now have several contacts in ...read more the USA and Canada. The tour inclusions were excellent and well planned. A couple of the hotels were a little out of the way but that is to be expected with a budget tour operator. We would definitely use Global Journeys again and have already recommended them to friends.
Stress-free happy experience 1 , VIC, Australia, May 2015
Overall a good way to see the south of Italy without the stress of driving and finding so many places of interest on your own. We saw some great places and met great people. At times a bit rushed with some overnight stays but a fun happy experience.
