Join your Local Specialist for a guided morning sightseeing tour to the ancient hilltop complex that was once the Cradle of Western Civilisation and today overlooks a sprawling cityscape below. Along our journey into antiquity we'll have an opportunity to explore the Acropolis with its treasures. We'll admire the Parthenon, dedicated to the goddess Athena, the Royal Palace, Temple of Zeus and the Agora, once the haunt of Socrates and Plato. We'll see remarkable displays of an ancient world during an included visit to the Acropolis Museum, and see Hadrian's Arch and the stadium where the first modern Olympics took place in 1896. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy on your own terms. Meander through the cobbled lanes of Plaka, people-watch in Syntagma Square or go in search of the city's tastiest souvlaki - the choice is yours. (BB)

Athens - Corinth - Mycenae - Epidaurus - Nafplion
We depart Athens this morning, crossing the mighty Corinth Canal to the wild Peloponnesian Peninsula. Arriving in the ancient city of Corinth, we join a Local Specialist to explore an ancient city that several empires fought over throughout the centuries. We continue to Mycenae, a mighty kingdom of ancient Greece, where we'll see the Beehive Tombs (the Treasury of Atreus), the Lion Gate and the remains of Agamemnon's Royal Palace in the company of a Local Specialist. Later, we'll travel to Epidaurus to visit the ancient theatre and view the Sanctuary of Asclepius, the God of Medicine, whose snake-entwined staff remains the symbol of medicine to this day. Arriving in the charming Venetian town of Nafplion later, we'll dine in our hotel this evening. (BB/D) Stay: Amalia / Agamemnon
4
Nafplion - Olympia
We traverse the Mountains of Arcadia to ancient Olympia, past quaint mountain villages into a land of myths and legends, and the site of the first Olympic Games held in 776 BC. This evening we join the Karambellas family on their 30-acre olive and wine farm for an unforgettable Be My Guest dinner, some traditional dancing and characteristic Greek philoxenia. (BB/BMGD) Stay: Amalia / Olympia Palace
5
Olympia - Patras - Delphi
We join a Local Specialist this morning to delve into centuries of history. We'll visit the ancient Olympic site, the museum and the ruined remains of the Temples of Zeus and Hera. Leaving Olympia, we skirt the coastline north to Patras, crossing the Gulf of Corinth to mainland Greece before continuing to Delphi, our home for tonight. (BB) Stay: Amalia / Aegli
6
Delphi - Thermopylae - Kalambaka
Tread in the footsteps of ancient Greeks who would descend on the sanctuary of Delphi to consult with the most important oracle in the classical world. Join your Local Specialist and walk the Sacred Way to the 4th century Temple of Apollo and view the statues immortalising the strength of the athletes who once competed in the Pythian Games held in honour of Apollo and the Arts. A scenic afternoon drive brings us to Thermopylae, famous for the heroic defence by Leonidas and his brave Spartans against the invading Persians. We cross the lush Thessaly region, the 'bread basket of Greece', and travel over the Pourmaraki Pass towards Kalambaka. (BB/D) Stay: Amalia / Divani
7
Kalambaka - Meteora - Athens
The breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage monasteries of Meteora are our first stop today. Join a Local Specialist to visit two of the six Eastern Orthodox monasteries that cling impressively to immense, rounded rock towers overlooking the town. The tour was wonderful. We saw all the ancient sites. I know when people think of Greece these days they think of the islands, beaches, cruises and blue and white buildings but our tour concentrated on the past. We saw just about everything from The Acropolis, Olympia and Delphi and more. We loved every minute.

The people on the tour were friendly but you didn't have to mix if you didn't want to. We were so lucky with the weather, clear skies and sun except for Christmas morning when we got a light dusting of snow - perfect. The hotels were great and the food fantastic. We had the best tour guide in Lisa, a truly inspiring woman with so much knowledge, humour and philosophy to keep us all happy and laughing.

Weather was terrible the first day of our tour when we took on the Acropolis. As a measure--sixteen people were killed outside Athens from flash flooding the day before. Water got into my camera and it was eventually ruined. Thankfully the weather turned good thereafter.

Both the tour director and driver are very professional and performed well. All the on location guides are excellent ,armed with in depth knowledge of the historical significant of the region and the events impact on the Western civilisation.

For daily lunch, it would be better if the director offer more on-location eatery tips rather than took the entire group to a restaurant as many don't prefer a full mid-day meal. Being late in the season, there were not many shops open at the stops. Early heads-up would have helped those who needed to fill their shopping list. The be-my-guest dinner was "average". My lamb was over-cooked and so was my wife's chicken. The after dinner entertainment was lively when almost all participated...except those taking video.

An ideal way to see the main sites of Ancient Greece without the crowds. As one of the few tours operating in Greece over winter, we rarely had to share entire sites with anyone. The pace was great, allowing us time to properly explore the museums and sites we visited and not feel as though we were just glimpsing them as we drove by in the coach. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting a hassle-free and enjoyable tour around the main sites of Ancient Greece.
