This narrow, 42-kilometre-long (26-mile-long) fjord is another of Alaska's most dramatic glacier settings. The lush rainforest recedes to reveal a stunning canyon of bare rock. The panorama of 2,134-metre (7,000-foot) mountain peaks and nearly vertical rock cliffs is astounding. Waterfalls appear at every turn. Icebergs make their way to the sea in all sorts of wondrous shapes. And tucked away at the end of this remarkable waterway are two very active reminders of the Ice Age-the twin Sawyer Glaciers, which calve icebergs into the jade-coloured inland sea. Kittiwakes, mountain goats, and seals are a common sight. Whales and bears may even make an appearance in this magical place. Visit one of the most remote capital cities-Juneau. Accessible only by air and water, Juneau is located at the base of two towering mountains in the heart of Alaska's Inside Passage, and is home to a rich Gold Rush history, Native culture, wildlife, and a wealth of natural wonders. Shop for gold nuggets, visit the stately Governor's Mansion, saunter through the swinging doors of the historic Red Dog Saloon, or visit mighty Mendenhall Glacier, an impressive river of ice that is 19 kilometres (12 miles) long and 2.4 kilometres (1.5 miles) wide. (B/L/D)

We were a bit disappointed with the beginning of the train trip. We had expected refurbished carriages. But the ones we got were very basic. We did enjoy the trip once the train got to Jasper and we travelled by coach through the rest of Canada. The trip to Alaska was wonderful. The ship was all we expected if not more. Would recommend the trip from Jasper to Vancouver Island to Alaska and back.

Canada's 150th Anniversary was a real celebration but the ensuing backlog of rail freight caused a very delayed start and a longer than normal rail trip for our tour. The additional time at the rail terminal in Toronto was not much fun but once on the train the trip became most enjoyable. The coach section of the trip and the visits to Jasper, Banff and Victoria were great highlights. The lakes Louise and Maligne and the Columbia icefield were particularly spectacular. To round off the tour with the 8-day Alaska cruise provided a wonderful conclusion to a great tour.

The coach trips were interspersed with interesting inclusions and more than our fair share of roadside wildlife - bears, mountain goats and a herd of 50+ elk. Our tour guide was very professional and extremely knowledgeable. We would highly recommend this tour.

This was the first orgainsed tour we had ever participated in and we were a little hesitant. We had always arranged our own itinerary and chose where and when we stopped. This tour was fantastic. The tour guide was very helpful without giving us the feeling of having no say in what we were doing. This tour provided days when we could chose our own activities. The organised activities provided a variety of things to do while the accommodation and meals were excellent. A final factor that made this a memorable trip was the fantastic group of people were travelled with - there was a mix of personalities and many laughs were shared.
