Travelling north from Perth, tours of the Pilbara and Western Australia’s Coral Coast take you to some of the state’s favourite natural attractions. Have your breath taken away time and again with the contrasting landscapes of the Pilbara and west coast when you tour Western Australia.

Here are just some of our favourite natural attractions.

The Pinnacles

Three hours north of Perth, in the Nambung National Park, you will find a fascinating landscape of limestone pillars that rise from the sand. The Pinnacles are scattered across the desert landscape in all shapes and forms, from sharp pointed spires over three metres high to short squat boulder shaped formations. Walk amongst them and imagine the area when it was under the sea.The Pinnacles, Nambung National Park

Kalbarri National Park

A special place during the wildflower season, you will find Kalbarri National Park blanketed in the colours of a variety of native flowers. Year round take in the awesome views of the layered sandstone cliffs that dominate the coast where they drop 100 metres into the sea. Take in the view through Nature’s Window, where the Murchison River has cut a stunning a gorge. Dramatic rock formations abound from every well positioned vantage point.

Geraldton

Many tours stop in Geraldton to take in the HMAS Sydney II Memorial. Be moved by the intricate design of the Dome of Souls. At the heart of the memorial the sculpted seagulls depict the 645 departing souls of the men who did not survive when the HMAS Sydney lost its battle against the German KSK Kormoran in WWII. Follow the pathway to the sea to spend a stirring moment with the waiting woman, looking out to the horizon for that soul of her husband or son, who never returned.

Hamelin Pool

Take the boardwalk through the Shark Bay World Heritage Area to view the stromatolites at Hamelin Pool. These amazing mounds found in the shallows, are living fossils, the number of which are the largest in the world. Equally beautiful when covered in water or when the tide is out, they are a living monument to the existence of life on earth over 3500 years ago. It's an awe inspiring and protected site.

Monkey Mia

Renowned for its wild dolphin feeding, join the managed feeding experience in the morning. Mingle with the blue bottle nose dolphins in the shallows of the bay while specially trained rangers feed the pod that visit almost daily. You can see dolphins frolicking in the water throughout the day. You might also see dugongs, sharks, rays, turtles and a variety of fish in the water. On shore, you could also chance upon pelicans and emus.Monkey Mia, Western Australia

Karijini National Park

By the time you have arrived at Karijini National Park in the Hammersley Ranges, you are 1400 kilometres from Perth. The colours of Karijini will take your breath away. The deep ochre of the earth underfoot and the red rock faces of the gorges and the chasms are vibrant under bright blue skies. Admire the swirling formations of Hammersley Gorge and take in Fortescue Falls in Dale Gorge. The park’s only permanent waterfall, fed by springs, you can take a dip in the fern lined pool. Look for wildflowers, rock wallabies, lizards and the abundant termite mounds dotted across the landscape.
