Broome

Arrive in Broome and be transferred to your hotel. Enjoy your day at leisure to explore this fascinating place. Head to the Sunset Bar and Grill at your resort to see one of Australia's best sunsets over Cable Beach. This evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner before your fascinating journey commences. Stay: Broome, Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa (D)
2

Gibb River Road, Windjana Gorge, Tunnel Creek

Your day starts with a visit to the fascinating Boab Prison Tree. Believed to be more than 1,500 years old and measuring an incredible 14 metres in diameter, this remarkable tree was once used by early police patrols as a standing point for prisoners as they were walked to Derby. Today, the hollow tree is a registered Aboriginal site of great cultural significance. Continue your journey along the Gibb River Road, a remote 660-kilometre outback highway stretching between Broome and Kununurra. The 'Gibb' traverses the wild heart of the Kimberley, passing spectacular landscapes of intensely coloured ranges, dramatic gorges, deep rock pools and spectacular waterfalls.

Turn off to visit Windjana Gorge, where sheer cliffs tower above glistening white sands. Admire the ancient marine fossils embedded in the gorge walls and scour the banks for freshwater crocodiles. Continue on to explore Tunnel Creek, a 750-metre-long natural tunnel carved through the Napier Range. With torch in hand, wade through the cool waters that fill the tunnel and emerge on the other side to the sight of a tranquil and stunning oasis. Later, arrive at Fitzroy Crossing. Stay: Fitzroy Crossing, Fitzroy River Lodge (B/L/D)

3

Geikie Gorge, Halls Creek, Purnululu National Park

Travel to Geikie Gorge National Park and explore magnificent Darngku (Geikie Gorge). Flooding of the river has bleached the walls white over time - an intriguing sight that makes it popular with photographers. Board a unique cruise along the stunning gorge and learn more about the beautiful flora and fauna of this spectacular region. Enjoy a visit to Halls Creek, before travelling to the World Heritage-listed Purnululu National Park. Experience the first of three APT exclusive wilderness lodges as you settle into the tranquil ambience of the Bungle Bungle Wilderness Lodge, located in the heart of this stunning national park. Enjoy a delicious dinner with your fellow guests tonight. Stay Two Nights: Bungle Bungle Wilderness Lodge (B/L/D)
4

Purnululu National Park, Piccaninny Creek, Cathedral Gorge

Explore the magic of Purnululu for yourself and discover the depth of the Bungle Bungle Range. The park is home to the famed black and orange striped domes, ascending to 578 metres above sea level. Standing over a grass-covered plain, steep cliffs form the western face. Created by the constant erosion of river movements over a staggering 20 million years, the range has both geological and Indigenous cultural significance. It is an imposing sight and one that you are sure to remember forever.

Walk along Piccaninny Creek, a winding gorge within the Bungle Bungle domes. Your next stop is the natural amphitheatre of Cathedral Gorge, a spacious cavern where the acoustics are astounding. Marvel at the majestic beehive domes as your guide brings the natural history of the range to life. You may like to experience an optional scenic helicopter flight over the domes own expense. This evening, enjoy drinks as the sun sets over the striking beehive dome formations of the iconic Bungle Bungle Range. (B/L/D)

5

Echidna Chasm, Kununurra

Join a hike with your Driver-Guide along a Livistona palm-fringed trail into Echidna Chasm, a spectacular natural cleft in the rock. Farewell the Bungle Bungle Range and travel along the Spring Creek Track through glorious rugged red landscapes to Kununurra, the gateway to the eastern Kimberley and the home of the Ord River Scheme, which is one of Australia's greatest engineering feats. Stay Two Nights: Kununurra Country Club Resort (B/L/D)
6

Lake Argyle, Ord River, Kununurra

Travel to the majestic Lake Argyle, the largest man-made lake in the Southern Hemisphere. Join a spectacular wildlife cruise on the mighty Ord River. From a modern shaded vessel, discover a fascinating ecological system that has developed from the damming of the Ord River at two locations to create an area rich in wildlife, flora and undeniable beauty. Later, enjoy a mesmerising sunset while cruising on tranquil Lake Kununurra. This evening, you will have the opportunity to spend some time at leisure or simply relax within the surrounds of your hotel. (B/L/D)
7

Parry's Lagoon, Wyndham, El Questro Wilderness Park

Visit the serene Parry's Lagoon, a splendid birdwatcher's paradise. Head to Wyndham and view the breathtaking Cambridge Gulf from the spectacular Five Rivers Lookout. Enjoy lunch in Wyndham before arriving at El Questro Wilderness Park, which covers a staggering one million acres. Soak in the delectable hot pools of Zebedee Springs and leave feeling revitalised. Afterwards, make your way to Emma Gorge Resort, where you will enjoy dinner this evening. Stay: El Questro Wilderness Park, Emma Gorge Resort
8

El Questro Wilderness Park, Home Valley Station

After a hearty breakfast, continue to explore remarkable El Questro Wilderness Park. Soak in the delectable hot pools of Zebedee Springs and leave feeling revitalised before enjoying lunch. Hike to the picturesque Emma Gorge and be rewarded with a revitalising swim beneath a towering droplet waterfall. Cross the mighty Pentecost River into iconic Home Valley Station, an immense cattle property. Discover the spellbinding scenery that captivated audiences in Baz Luhrmann's movie 'Australia', including the imposing yet strikingly beautiful Cockburn Range. At the viewing area, you will savour this inspirational setting with sunset drinks, as you gaze out to the ever-changing colours of the Cockburn Range as the sun retreats. Stay: Home Valley Station (B/L/D)

9

Gibb River Road, Mitchell Plateau

Back on the Gibb River Road, ford the mighty Durack River, then turn off and travel north on the Kalumburu Road towards the isolated Mitchell Plateau. Along the way, stop at Drysdale River Station for lunch. Afterwards, enter a remote world of Livistona palm forests, beautiful lookouts, magnificent waterfalls and isolated swimming holes. For the next two nights, experience APT's Mitchell Falls Wilderness Lodge, with its Ungolan Pavilion, where you can relax in the lounge, treat yourself to a drink or read up on the local culture.

In the heart of the Mitchell Plateau, your accommodation is perfectly positioned beside the Pandanus palm-fringed Camp Creek, where you can enjoy a refreshing dip. Perhaps unwind as the sun sets, then later this evening, be treated to a tantalising dinner that showcases the region's finest local produce. For the perfect accompaniment to your meal, a selection of flavoursome beers from Matso's Broome Brewery and wines from Rosabrook Estate are available for purchase. Stay Two Nights: Mitchell Falls Wilderness Lodge (B/L/D)

10

Mitchell Falls, Helicopter Flight

Today you have a full day to discover the beauty of Mitchell Falls, with its magnificent tiered waterfalls and Indigenous art. When available, local Aboriginal guides will join the adventure, imparting their knowledge of the area and sharing their cultural beliefs. Begin with a guided hike to Little Mertens Falls to view rarely seen Aboriginal art. Continue to Big Mertens Falls before arriving at the incredible Mitchell Falls. With superb scenery and rich culture, you can swim in the pools above the falls and spot the region's abundant wildlife. We have also included a helicopter flight over Mitchell Falls and the surrounding wilderness back to the vehicle or, if you prefer, hike back with your guide. Longer helicopter flights over this captivating and remote coastline are available at additional expense. Later, it's time to return to your wilderness lodge to relax, knowing you have just experienced a day most people can only dream of. Perhaps spend some time in front of the camp fire recounting today's tales. (B/L/D)
11

Bradshaw Art Gwion Gwion, King Edward River, Drysdale River Station

The Kimberley's rock art is arguably some of the world's oldest, with evidence suggesting the earliest occupation in the region dates back 50,000 to 60,000 years ago. Visit Wandjina and Bradshaw Art Gwion Gwion galleries and swim in the clear waters at King Edward River. Cross the beautiful Drysdale River and arrive at Drysdale River Station, where you will enjoy a unique stay at this historic cattle property, including a delicious dinner. Travel through the heart of Kimberley cattle country to discover some of the region's most secluded gorges. At beautiful Manning Gorge, you'll enjoy lunch in the shade of paperbark trees. Look out for the region's bird life and enjoy a refreshing swim in the pristine water. Continue to Galvans Gorge, where a short walk leads to a picturesque waterhole where boab trees cling to the escarpment above. Inspect the rock art on the gorge walls and take a leisurely swim. Later, arrive at Bell Gorge Wilderness Lodge in time for dinner, which will become your home for the next two nights. The remarkable lodge is situated in an enviable position, with a sprawling lawn to relax and unwind, while offering stunning views of the King Leopold Range. We loved all of it. A highlight was the Tunnel Creek walk, with the assistance of two indigenous guides. They did a great job. The trip went without a hitch, except for one flat tyre. Not bad for 20 of us.

Our Kimberley tour was exceptional. The area is stunning with fabulous rivers, waterfalls, scenery and weather. The accommodation and tour arrangements generally were great, meals very good although we put on a bit of weight. Walking in to some of the brilliant spots was a bit taxing but most definitely worthwhile to see such marvellous sites. We have traveled to places around the world, but would recommend the Kimberley trip to anyone who wishes to see some of the most magnificent places in the world. Global Journeys provided us with a great platform to do this trip. Thanks Madeline!

Some highlights for me were the helicopter flight over the Bungle Bungles, the Willie Creek pearl farm, also the Horizontal Falls day, none of which were included in the tour price. Also Zebedee Springs, the boab trees. The green oasis at Drysdale Station. El Questro Resort was lovely, The APT lodges were also very good, but I felt that maybe some of the menu's were a little ambitious.

Our driver gave us excellent attention including a few special treats. I felt it was a very long day for the driver, such rough roads, loading luggage, doing the lunches, while continuously answering questions. Some of the staff at Cable Beach Resort need a lesson in customer service. I didn't have any problem with my rooms, but some people did. To me it was an expensive trip, specially with the single supplement, BUT and amazing part of our country and well worth seeing, and I could only have done it on a tour.

This was one of the most adventurous tours I have completed and I am glad I picked APT as they really take care of you all the way through the tour. The vehicle, the guide was excellent. It was hard going at times as we did more climbing than expected. Thank goodness I am reasonably fit. Highlights were the amazing sites we trekked too, the amazing waterfalls especially Mitchell Falls, and the food was excellent throughout. Much better than expected. I was very happy and sad when it came to an end.

We travelled in June which was a great time to visit with waterfalls running and temperatures not too hot during the day. We enjoyed the company of our sixteen fellow travellers and our driver/guide was knowledgeable, well organised and highly professional. Some days involved long hours on the bus but this was necessary to experience all the highlights in two weeks, and every day delivered more spectacular landscapes. The quality of accommodation and the included meals were excellent.
