Welcome to Malaysian Borneo and Kuching, the largest city on the island of Borneo! On arrival, we will be met and transferred to our hotel.

This morning we take a walking tour to orient ourselves in the city. Beginning at the waterfront, we visit Tua Pek Kong Chinese Temple and the Chinese Historical Museum, Carpenter Street, India Street, Masjid India Mosque and Gambier Street. We also explore the open-air market, Merdeka Square and the Sarawak Museum. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to explore or relax. This evening we enjoy a group welcome dinner. (B/WD)

Bako National Park

Our journey today takes us to Bako National Park, home to seven distinct rainforest eco-systems and a remarkable diversity of animal and plant life! The most famous residents are the long-nosed proboscis monkeys, along with long-tailed macaque monkeys, wild boar, flying squirrels and monitor lizards. (B/L)

Kuching - Mulu

Today we fly to Mulu, located in the Gunung Mulu National Park. (B/D) Special Experience: This afternoon we take a 3km plank walk through lush rainforest to Deer Cave and Lang's Cave in Mulu National Park - a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site. With our specialist guide we'll explore both of these uniquely different cave systems, among the most spectacular in the world.

Our day begins with a longboat cruise to Wind Cave and a Penan settlement, before climbing the 200 steps up to Clearwater Cave. We'll enjoy lunch and a swim in the crystal-clear waters that flow from the cave and give it its name. (B/L/D)

Mulu - Sandakan - Sepilok

We travel to Sepilok via Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan, where the rest of the evening is at leisure. (B/D)

Sepilok - Kinabatangan River

We depart Sepilok, boarding a boat from which we'll cruise to the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary and our lodge, which is only accessible by boat. We'll enjoy lunch on arrival and then take a stroll along a stilted boardwalk into the surrounding jungle, before an evening cruise to look for more wildlife. (B/L/D)

Kinabatangan River - Sukau

Early this morning we travel to Pitas Lake, and participate in a tree-planting ceremony in Abai village. After lunch, we cruise to Sukau in search of the endemic proboscis monkey. (B/L/D)

Sukau - Ranau

  “Very good tour”
Trip Date: 21/08/2015
Hannah we had a very good tour, very busy and it kept us on the move most of the time. Some accommodation not quite up to standard - this is only because I feel that we paid for top hotels all the way and this did not happen on several occasions, although I do understand that there was probably no alternatives in the places we were visiting.

“We all had a great time”
Trip Date: 21/08/2015
We thought this was an excellent tour - the guides giving us plenty of information and help. A couple of the hotels were not good; in particular the Batang Ai Longhouse Resort was sub-standard and some parts of it derelict. The stairs we had to use coming up from the boat were broken and unsafe, the whole place needed attention and the staff were not helpful. The Celyn Resort Kinabalu was basic but the food not good here. The other hotels were excellent - the Marriot Resort and Spa a standout as was the Grandis Hotel and Resort in Kota Kinabalu. We had an excellent group of 9 people - we all had a great time. Our bookings were handled very well by Hannah Campbell and we would recommend Global Journeys to others.
