River Cruise Description
Artists, musicians, writers, and poets from all over Europe have immortalised the Rhine's unadulterated natural beauty in their songs, art, stories, and poetry. Byron, Dumas, Hugo, and Heine celebrated it in their writing. Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms, Schubert, and Wagner idolized it in their music, and Turner captured it in his paintings. Even today, the Rhine continues to inspire those who visit - especially Germany's Upper Middle Rhine Valley, spanning approximately 40 miles between Rüdesheim and Koblenz.
This area has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site with more than 40 castles gracing its shores, along with vineyardterraced landscapes and breathtaking countryside. Therefore, it's only fitting to sail this inspirational region onboard Uniworld's stunning new ship, River Antoinette. Travel in ultimate style and comfort to UNESCO World Heritage sites. Take a breathtaking tour along the Alsatian Wine Road. Indulge in the region's famous Rheingau Rieslings at Castle Vollrads, and view fairytale Strasbourg as it has been seen for centuries, via a canal cruise. All this and more awaits you on 'Castles along the Rhine.' Who will enjoy this cruise: Romantics, history buffs, wine connoisseurs, and nature lovers will rejoice in Medieval wine towns, glorious castles, majestic cathedrals, and world-class cities.

Day 2
Cologne Featured Excursion: Cologne walking tour and Cologne Cathedral visit.
Stroll through the narrow streets of Old Town with your guide, passing by tiny squares and small churches as you make your way to Cologne Cathedral, the city’s most famous landmark and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. It took 632 years for Germany’s largest cathedral to be completed, and it is one of the most important Gothic churches in Europe. A visit inside features the Shrine of the Three Magi and the beautiful stained glass windows that survived WWII. (BB/L/Captain’s Welcome Dinner)
Day 3
Koblenz Featured Excursion: Choice of Koblenz walking tour OR aerial tram to Fortress Ehrenbreitstein; Boppard village stroll.
The German Corner, with its famous William II monument, announces our arrival in Koblenz at the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine rivers. Choose a walking tour highlighting the appeal of Koblenz—its romantic narrow streets and historical squares, the picturesque alleyways and fountains in the old quarter, and the 12th-century churches of St. Florin and Our Lady. Or ride the aerial tram across the Rhine to Fortress Ehrenbreitstein—inspiration to authors Melville and Byron—which has stood high on the hill overlooking the rivers’ confluence since its beginnings as a fortification in 1,000 BC. End your day with a guided village stroll around Boppard, a typical small town on the shores of the Rhine. (BB/L/D)
Day 4
Cruising the romantic Rhine, Rudesheim Featured Excursion: Castle Vollrads wine tasting.
Spend the morning basking in the breathtaking scenery of the UNESCO World Heritage-designated Upper Middle Rhine Valley. You'll arrive in Rüdesheim in the early afternoon. Rüdesheim has a long history dating back to Roman times and is considered one of the most charming of the Rhine Valley towns. It has been a magnet for romantics ever since the 19th century. Among other things, the town is famous for its Drosselgasse—a narrow alleyway lined with wine taverns and shops. Explore Rüdesheim at your leisure. Then be our guest at a princely wine tasting at prestigious Castle Vollrads; perfectly situated in the vineyard-covered hills, it is also one of the world’s top wine estates for Rheingau Rieslings. (BB/L/D)
Day 5
Speyer Featured Excursion: Choice of Speyer walking tour OR Germersheim village stroll.
Your guided walking tour through Speyer reveals a Medieval town with a grand heritage and a compact historic center dominated by the largest Romanesque cathedral in Europe—a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With its basilica laid out in the form of a Latin cross, including four towers and two domes, this is a marvel to behold. Or explore daily life in the typical German town of Germersheim, with its lively historic downtown and unique old ring fortification around the city core. (BB/L/D)
Day 6
Strasbourg Featured Excursion: Strasbourg canal cruise.
Situated halfway between Paris and Prague, the Alsatian town of Strasbourg is known as the “Crossroads of Europe.” It is home to a magnificent Gothic cathedral and beautiful half-timbered houses. View Strasbourg in the way it has been seen through the centuries—on a canal cruise. In addition to viewing the town’s covered bridges, Medieval watchtowers, old tanners’ district, and the modern building that houses the European Parliament, you will see Petite France, the picturesque district that seems as if it has been lifted from the pages of a fairytale. Then spend your afternoon at leisure in this beautiful city. (BB/L/D)
Day 7
Strasbourg (Colmar), Breisach Featured Excursion: Full-day tour along the Alsatian Wine Road.
Starting from Medieval Breisach, the gateway to the Black Forest, you will cross the Rhine and head for the Alsatian Wine Road, which hugs the foothills of the Vosges Mountains. Charming villages, pastoral landscapes, and lush vineyards line this beautiful winding road. You will visit enchanting Colmar with its historic city center and St. Martin’s Church, which is made of pink stone. You will also see the picturesque timber- framed houses in the romantic Medieval town of Riquewhir. (BB, Captain’s Farewell Dinner)

Suzi Barrow (Australia) Tour Date 05/06/2011
This was a fantastic cruise. The only way you could tell the ship was moving was to look out of the windows - no vibration, no noise! And it was worth looking out of the window as the scenery was spectacular. The service on the ship was second to none and the meals were brilliant. The organisation of the shore trips was done very professionally. My thanks to Yvonne who arranged all the trip for me - I can nceertainly recommend it.

It does not matter which direction you choose, as each direction contains the same included features. Timings of activities may, of course, vary a little due to cruising times up- or downstream, but you will not see or do more in one direction than in the other.
During the day, comfortable, casual attire is appropriate. The weather in Europe can be very changeable, so take a sweater or windproof jacket and an umbrella. Comfortable walking shoes are also recommended for excursions. Evenings are a little dressier. Gentlemen may wish to wear a jacket to the Captain's dinner. You'll find average temperatures listed on each of the cruises on our website.
Our ships accommodate between 100 and 138 guests. They are generally 360 feet long (110 meters), and 37.5 feet wide (11.4 meters). The draft is approximately 4 feet (1.2 meters). There are typically 34 crew members aboard. We have a dedicated section on our website providing more detailed information each ship. Magnetic key cards have been introduced on the River Empress, River Countess and River Duchess. The magnetic card functions as your cabin key, your onboard charge card, and your ID card for boarding. Passengers swipe the cards as they disembark and embark, enabling our staff to keep track of everyone onboard. Our ships were the first - and are still the only - river cruise ships to offer this convenience. The River Empress, River Countess and River Duchess offer guests the convenience of checking and sending e-mails. On the River Princess, River Queen, River Empress, River Duchess and River Countess, each guest is provided with a terry cloth robe in their cabin. Our ships have one of the largest fitness centres aboard any river cruise ship. There is also a sauna and a steam room on the River Princess, River Queen, River Empress, River Duchess and River Countess.
Sumptuous buffets at breakfast and lunch offer an extensive array of hot and cold selections. Breakfast features crispy Belgian waffles topped with whipped cream and warm maple syrup, a dozen or more homemade breads and jams, an omelette station, and hand-cut seasonal fresh fruit.
Lunch offers a delectable feast with salads, soups, carved-to-order roasts, and more. Evenings provide exquisite ambience with relaxed open seating. Each dish is flawlessly prepared using the finest ingredients—local meats and seafood along with tasty side dishes. Always included with dinner onboard are European fine wines and a selection of beer and soft drinks served by an attentive, caring staff. Of course, every meal concludes with a wide range of freshly prepared, decadent desserts that look every bit as delicious as they taste.
Uniworld also provides a variety of dining experiences including: al fresco “under the stars” and light-lunch dining—both on the sun deck; Captain's Welcome Gala and Farewell Dinner; early-riser breakfast; and afternoon tea. Plus, Uniworld gives you the choice of dining on lighter cuisine with our Traveling Lite menu.
The ships are not handicapped or wheelchair accessible. There are elevators on the River Princess, River Queen, River Countess, River Duchess, and River Empress. On the River Queen, the elevator does not reach all decks. Additionally, most shore excursions involve some walking. Some excursions are walking cruises only, and several occur on cobblestone streets.
Tips & gratuities including the customary end-of-trip gratuity/tip for the cruise/tour manager, crew onboard and local guides for the included shore excursions are included in the price of your trip (excluding Optional Excursions). Europe & Russia cruises only.

On other ships all purchases and paid services on board
are billed with a guest check and added to your shipboard account.
At the end of the cruise, you will receive a total, which can be paid
with cash or credit card. The ships do not accept payments made
by Diners Club cards. The onboard currency is the Euro. View individual ships here.
It depends; in many places you will dock within walking distance to the city center, but there are places where the river only touches the outskirts of a town (i.e. Bamberg or Nuremberg), and thus a motorcoach transfer is necessary.
